I do like this one. And I'm not alone. When Ciani played in Bologna in 2022 it was sold out within days (and chances are the 1975 one is her most famous album). Can't explain it, it's like always with music, you get some stuff that some others totally don't, and the other way round. I have no issue with Thrakattak either, by the way, but Ciani beats that one by some distance. Go experimentalism!

Ok. I get it. You like this so called "experimentalism". I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying the musical aspects that evoke emotions more than the pompous ideas of experimentation though.
BTW I almost expected elderly PA snobs would get butthurt over me calling out their electronic trash. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Edited by Hrychu - February 11 2024 at 16:38 |

The thing is... one person's evoked emotions is another person's "pompous ideas of experimentation". My "go experimentalism" was half ironic; I don't like stuff just because it's experimental, I like stuff if I can relate to it. Much experimental material just happens to be of this kind.

Good point. But anyway, Lewian, what's the worst album you've ever heard?

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Hi, I think the idea of "composition" and our ideas about "music" (specially as defined in progressive circles) is far more pompous than the experimentation by many folks, that is an attempt at taking an instrument even further. No one called the early synthesizer music "pompous", and there is no reason to start now, although I will admit that every now and then there is an "academic" type of experimentalism that ... is hard to not say something about it. But I don't think that much of this stuff is even considered potentially as some sort of commercial, or artistic creation, though it could ... no one thought the synthesizer would come "alive" either ... or an instrument in its own right!

They have a very patchy discography IMO, I like a few of their albums though, not that many in their long discography.

Hmmm, is there a Rock Progresivo Italiano album that you consider really bad, guys? I'm not talking about oddball midlife crisis commercial stuff by RPI bands like E Via by Banco or Come Ti Va In Riva Alla Città by PFM. Think of a terrible album that can be clearly defined as RPI!

Hi, I never found both bands were that bad ... PFM had issues that likely stemmed from their trip to the USA and how well they did, which immediately caused changes to the band, that alienated a lot of folks ... their changes in their material and singing turned off a lot of fans ... though I think that we were all expecting too much anyway, and wanted more of the same early material and it did not happen. Later they tried to kick it back up but I think their cohesion and fun was gone ... and their work was no longer far out ... they lost something in the translation of the way too many changes in their band! They never really owned up to that. Banco is different, and I think that we kept expecting it to redo their first 4 or 5 albums, but they did many other things, and then when their most valuable member passed away, the band had to change, and while now that it is Vittorio's band, it isn't bad, but I think the charm, and strength and value that the singer provided, was gone, and the current Banco is not capable of seeing to that at all ... maybe this was the part of the band that had go when the singer passed away ... that feeling was his! The material since is ... probably something that I would have cleaned up a bit better and more ... I think they set themselves up to not be their singer's band anymore, and many of us didn't enjoy it ... again, the charm and the quality of before, just was not there. I see it as part of the band's life ... we all change throughout the years ... and we are being commercial bruhahas when we do not allow bands to change and start thinking of it as bad albums. BJH actually got better as time went by, and their material with an orchestra is outstanding, even if we think that some of the music is not as strong ... but I kinda think that we never really thought they were a top band, which they deserve to be, but they would not dress up or go for a stupid over blown stage show ... they stuck to their music! And for that they deserve some credit!

Grew up with them and have a real soft spot for them, but there's no denying that they lost something when Wooly left in 1978; XII is the last studio of theirs I own.

Starcastle-Real To Reel
The band went mainstream with awful results......the first 2 or 3 weren't that bad if you wanted watered down Yes. Also while not the worst perhaps, I found Tull's Rock Island and Catfish Rising to be pretty bad and only owned them for a short while before trading them in.

The last two you mentioned weren't so bad as they were boring imo. I take it you haven't heard Mike Rutherford's small creeps day? Even worse than Tony Banks The Fugitive.

@Mirakaze
It still has English lyrics and musically can hardly be labeled as RPI. That's the thing. It kinda proves my "theory" that for an Italian band to qualify for the RPI tag, the quality of the music itself has to be decent. Which is yet another odd thing to add to the already goofy criteria. I know the band for their debut album from 1985, "Land Of Mystery", which is an interesting album I listen from time to time. It's a sort of heavy-doom with some psychedelic touches, in 1985 . If I remember right, I listened to their follow up album which I didn't like already. I didn't know they came back and released an album in 2017. And based on your video, I'm not gonna bother. But I recommend their debut.

Camera Camera by Renaissance is one of my most disappointing purchases. I should have watched the album cover with more attention. Not the absolute worst, but The Single Factor by Camel is for me the lowest point in their career. GTR could have been a decent rock album with a singer sounding differently from Europe. The fact that is a Hackett/Howe release makes it very disappointing. I think the worst is Testament by Shub-Niggurath (I love their first two albums)
