Seriously, just one more of these for a cool dozen and that will be it for me for making any polls for quite some time. Got lots of work coming up, and this has been a fun and hugely pleasurable exercise for me during my downtime. I would love it if some others would give this a shot as I am interested to see a broader range of what people are into. I appreciate seeing what others are enthusiastic about.
I would like to thank those who took the time to comment on the music in any of these, it is very much appreciated (especially the more detailed responses and the discussion). I had done 15 in PA one track per five years series and this is the out of PA series with the same theme which will be 12. In both series, I chose one track off one release for every five year period. I did not duplicate any act in in individual poll but over the course my favourites were represented with songs from different albums. I did not cover more than one track per album throughout the series. Feel free to vote with limited familiarity and for up to three, or more, choices. Sun Ra "Tapestry From an Asteroid" (The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra, 1962) Claude Lombard "Les Enfants Perle" (Claude Lombard, 1969) Karl Heinz Schäfer "Couleurs" (Les gants blancs du diable, 1973) Giorgio Moroder "(Theme From) Midnight Express" (Midnight Express, 1978) Phew "Signal" (Phew, 1981) Coil "The First Five Minutes After Death" (Horse Rotorvator, 1986) Tuxedomoon "Licorice Stick Ostinato" (The Ghost Sonata, 1991) Broadcast "The Book Lovers" (The Book Lovers, 1996) Aphex Twin "Meltphace 6" (drukqs, 2001) Saturnia "Aqua" (Muzak, 2006) Emma Ruth Rundle "Oh Sarah" (Some Heavy Ocean, 2014) Xiu Xiu - "Into the Night" (Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, 2016) Weyes Blood (aka Natalie Mering) "It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody" (And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, 2022) To see the past poll choices and links to those both in and out of PA, I entered them HERE CLICK And you can see my playlists here: CLICK Thanks for the support of independently selected music. And feel free to mention anything about any of the music without voting. Aside from this being a pleasurable exercise in revisiting and selecting music I care for and sharing that with the PA forum community, I also like to do this as a way of supporting the artists in showing my appreciation and sharing it with others who might potentially find something to appreciate. I haven't really been able to get into most of Weyes Blood's discography but "It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody" is a very beautiful song, no question about it. For me it just barely beats out the Midnight Express theme (I'm pleased that you included that song instead of "Chase" which I also like a lot but not as much). I'm gonna have to give that Sun Ra song a listen.

Only Sun Ra from this list.
I generally like Coil and Aphex Twin, but just wasn't in the mood for them today. By the way, Coil are in the 'archives.

^ Yes, thanks, Hiram. Since I made a Prog and non-Prog series, sometimes I get confused when distracted about which one I'm doing. This time I did not catch myself. I even have a Coil representative in the one of the "in PA" polls with Coil "Fire of the Mind" (The Age of Naples, 2005) which made a Prog list list I put to together today for a Grumpyprogfan topic (love that track). Anyway, happy to have this COil and a representative from its album in the greater, both in and out of PA, series (as I only cover one track per album unless I made mistakes).
And thanks Mira for your comments. I like Chase but this theme resonates deeper emotionally with me. The film is a powerful adaptation and I would say ha d a bit affect on me when I saw it as a child -- the music reinforced its effect and the film reinforces the effect of the music. EDIT: In fact I was more careless than that, as Saturnia is also in PA. Oh well, what matters to me most is the music, not the classification. Edited by Logan - February 11 2024 at 11:45 |

I rarely reply to these as I almost always love all the options. But I can say that I have some extra love for the Sun Ra, Karl Heinz Schäfer and Weyes Blood tracks.
