It's a long shot but does anyone recall a cassette sampler, possibly given away with a magazine in the UK in the early to mid seventies (74?). All I can remember about it is one song by, I think, a European prog band with a lyric something like 'Across the valley. Demons come..' I've been trying to find that song.
In my head it was an Island Records sampler but I have looked at all of the ones in the Archive and it is doesn't appear to be one of those. I've check through all the other various artist samplers I can find online too.
Also in my head, so probably wrong, it is around the same time that PFM released Celebration, so 73/74 but it isn't PFM.
If anyone remembers anything about this from my vague description. I'd love to know what the sampler or that song was.
Thanks!

The Charisma label released some prog-rock samplers in the mid-70s.

Could it by Manifestations by Seventh Wave?

It has the line in the song (with an added "ah"): see here; and it appeared on this cassette in 1975...

Brilliant! That is exactly the song and the cassette. I had forgotten all about the long synth/fx intro. Still sounds pretty good. Just bought the CD from Cherry Red Records.
Thanks.

HI,

Seventh Wave's previous album is also worth having ... both of them are excellent. Their previous incarnation was a band called Second Hand.

And that is not the best piece in the album ... these lyrics from the last piece should tell you how with it, this whole album is!!! (not complete)

...
Theatre of war, you’re moved as pieces in a game of chess
As you die of the biblical myth
For the soldier who found an early grave
Is the cry of a child who’s lost his way

And people who live from day to day
Their last hopе our bitter memories
Land of thе bones, plague, fire, suffering
Bring out your dead

The bell tolls, the season brings a change
The sundial is still as a shadow caresses its face
All but the shadow lost in space
If you still have the will to carry on

...

A new day, a new way
For the soldier who found an early grave
Is the cry of a child who’s lost his way
And people who live from day to day

Their last hope our bitter memory

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
