I have gained a slight recent favorite of mine with John Zorn's Spinoza. Makes me interested in checking more of his works.

Across the evening sky,
all the birds are leaving,
But how can they know,
it's time for them to go?
Before the winter fire,
I will still be dreaming,
I have no thought of time.

There are many very good bands, this is only a top ten choosing one album per band and ordered alphabetically:

Agalloch - The Mantle
Discipline - Unfolded Like Staircase
Dream Theater - Metropolis Part 2 Scenes From a Memory
Kansas - Two for the Show (live)
Mastodon - Crack the Sky
Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura
Shadow Gallery - Room V
Spock´s Beard - V
Symphony X - V The New Mythology Suite
Tool - Lateralus

Bonus:
Isis - Panopticon
Redemption - The Fullness of Time
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

Reviewing my count, it is curious that I have 3 bands that start their names with "S" and their most important albums for me have the "V" on their cover...

I can tell too that USA is the nation which has got most albums on the two toplists I've made on the basis of all the ratings on RYM and PA,
when talking about the modern (post-1990s) years.
