I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this band. I discovered them in the prog section of my local record store and bought it because the sick album cover and beautiful blue promo vinyl. They released two albums the eponymous debut in 1978 and a follow up "Clear Approach" in 1980(which I haven't heard). Their sound is reminiscent of New Englandbut far more mature with more progressive elements. What's your guys opinions on the band and do they deserve a place on PA? |

No. I have however heard of Tilion and they kick ass.
Their album Suites ritrovate, which I think is a collection of revamped (or unaltered; I didn't have time to do an AB comparison)* versions of some of their Wild West suites originally recorded for the Spaghetti Epic series of VA concept albums, is really really good! *EDIT: so yeah, apparently those suites are the original recordings and masters I will give Trillion a listen and share my impressions here later. Stay tuned or smth iduno Edited by Hrychu - December 21 2023 at 14:25 |

^ If they didn't make it into prog-related, no chance they get into anything else (heavy prog or crossover).

The Band considers themselves prog. Interesting. According to the last post on that thread. They had Trillion III release. Has anyone heard that, and if so, is it in any way, prog?

I had seen this band's debut album for months (probably because of its interesting artwork) in the stores back then and had asked a store manager to hear it (wasn't done often in North Am) and didn't think much of it. At first I had confused them as Canadian because of their name (the trillium flower was province Ontario's symbol). About a year later, it was in the cut-out bins and I did bring it home, onmly to play it twice and put in my outgoing pile. I guess the album stayed some two weeks home before joining the used record circuit. Never knew they had a second album, though. not sure that with such dumb song title that these guys were considered really "prog" (other than by themselves) at the times, but maybe their artworks had them considered as such because of the times. Certainly not more than Styx, for sure? Currently relistening to their albums via Discogs... Still horrible to my ears.... .... but maybe they're worthy of PRelated (I think they should hve another shot, if already rejected) BTW, the store where I heard and later bought Trillion's album was called Starcastle (Younge st and Wellesley) |

^ Well, if you want to sponsor and present the case, go ahead, but it does not sound like you are convinced or enthusiastic (a special collab generally is asked to present the case to the admin for Prog Related and Proto Prog -- I mention for those who don't know the process). I thought Yam Yam's assessments seemed very good when I saw the band proposed before: https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=96842
It's not meant to be that easy to get into Prog Related, and hurdles were created to try to limit the numbers. Not only it should have proggy attributes, but it helps to have personell who were in Prog projects, to have been influenced by Prog and be an influential band. It's supposed to be for "exceptional" cases. And it can be a really slow and laborious process. I see it compared to Styx, which is only in Prog Related as is (so then this would be related to Prog related) and has been rather controversial as is. There have been concerns raised about Trillion being added in various topics. Anyway, over the last six months I voted yes for Pescado Rabioso and The Flaming Lips for PR. Certainly lots have objected to The Flaming Lips over the years, and it had many topics, but I can handle the flaming heat if it gets included (but perhaps not the kisses from my PA groupies lips if they existed). Now there's a related to TFL act being proposed for a Prog category and frankly if that gets in, the case could be more obvious for TFL. But I digress... I would not want to consider Trillion unless I was suitably convinced by arguments and examples of how it ticks off various Prog Related boxes per the definition (those relations to acts included in Prog categories, and its significance to Prog music generally, are spelled out). "Don't judge a book by its cover."

no you can judge a book by its cover sometimes. its important to listen to the music instead of judging by the cover but sometimes a covers wackness can translate easily into the music.
i mess with that queensryche cover btw: i like lofi n amateurish coverz

It's not a rule, but this might be the case for some people (not me tho cuz I've learned to separate the music from the cover art after seeing so many good records with garbage covers). |
