Does anybody know what the official policy is regarding adding tag on albums to a band discography?

I can't seem to find anything in the official rules.

We all see lots of tag on albums from solo members that are included in band pages.

Should we allow this? I think it's not very professional personally.

There are cases where it seems to make sense but if we allow those cases then it seems like an open-door invitation for anybody to add anything even remotely related.

I'm seeing more solo albums from members of a band that are being added even if they have ZERO prog credentials.

My question is simple.

Should we allow this to continue?

Who's adding solo albums to bands' discographies? It's not right. Write the E & O team or the admins.

I've only seen one such case and that's Jacques Tom Rivest (under Pollen). But the thing is: that solo album of his features Ex-Pollen members and it was supposed to be a Pollen album. The band broke up right before release, after most of the recording, mixing and mastering had been finished.

So then what about Emerson Lake and Powell ?
They're listed under Emerson Lake and Palmer, But '3' have their own listing.
Makes no sense whatsoever.
But I would agree that No Solo Artists should be listed under their band listing.
So now let's talk about Jethro Tull & Ian Anderson & Robert Fripp & King Crimson.
Too many exceptions already.

After how many years have you  decided to point these things out? If these things bothered you, you should have contacted the E & O team, the admins. These albums have been here for years. Confused

Well the album that inspired me to think about this and ask the question was the recent solo album by Catherine Ribeiro added to the Alpes page.

I've seen many scattered albums like that around the site. I can't think of any specific examples at the moment but i just wanted to know if there is any particular policy against doing this or is it all based on a case by case basis?

In the case of the latest Ribeiro album, none of her solo output was prog only French chanson.

In other cases it probably makes sense to add an offshoot or two.

One example i can think of is the Grace Slick solos tacked onto the Jefferson Airplane canon.

While technically not J.A., the Paul Kantner / Grace Slick combo suggests it could be done.

I've been trying to find any rules about this but haven't been successful in finding anything but then again navigability isn't this site's strongest feature :)

The discography rules seem to imply that only off-shoots or derivations of the primary artist are permitted. The rules don't explicitly address solo albums. Examples of off-shoots are: BJH Through the Eyes of John Lees or Electric Light Orchestra Part II

It makes more sense to me to have solo artists as separate entries in the database. I work with library databases and metadata and this would be a breach of cataloging standards to file it under something which it is not. It would be like putting Phil Collins' solo albums in the Genesis discography as an extreme example, but one I hope gets the point across.

I understand the reason why people want to add this stuff to the database and I've often thought that Prog Related could handle these non-prog solo albums. Bullet #3 in the Prog Related definition on the site seems to imply that these solo artists should be added, but it seems like that's not enough for inclusion. Otherwise, Phil Collins would have had an entry here a long time ago.
