Not prog-related so it goes into the general music forum... (Admins, pls move it if necessary)

I have been on a massive kick of hers as of late! She was (I know I know) just so talented and good looking!Tongue Heart
I wish I could have seen or met her in her prime, but I was born at the wrong time Cry

As many of you probably know, poor Linda has reached a more degenerative stage of Parkinsons and loses mobility by the day. Daily movements like getting up, walking, and eating don't come naturally to her anymore! The only part of Linda that shines and reflects her heart at this stager are her words. Linda at 77 has so much left to discover and enjoy! God forbid she leaves us soon! 

My dream is to reach her with a complimentary message and to demonstrate our support. May she keep fighting this incurable disease until it's no longer possible! 

Join with me, folks. I hope somehow, someway, Linda can read this and be consolidated like she hasn't been yet!

Please share any personal affections, stories, gigs, interviews, or news articles!Smile

Different Drum is my favorite Ronstadt/Stone Poneys song.  My older brother had this poster of Linda over his bed backboard.Wink

As a (massive) Eagles fan, I approve this thread!

Ronstadt has a great career, great voice as well. I haven't found the time to at least listen to a greatest hits yet, but I should!
The Wheel of Time Turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the shadow.

Love Different Drum! Yeah, I came across that photo as well, but for sentimentality reasons I used the one I did. Did your brother get to see her in person?

I have great respect for the Eagles despite them falling into the "a bit too lush" category for me (prob due to excessive airplay), but I like their early early stuff very much! 

Linda was responsible for putting Don and Glenn together (inadvertently) after recording with them, if I'm not mistaken LOLWink

^They were part of her backing band at Disney if i'm not mistaken. They played one gig together, then she helped them get a record deal. 

(and of course, Don Felder taught Tom Petty how to play guitar)

That is so cute lol! I wonder if they dressed up silly too LOL

I heard Linda say in interview that the guys roomed and as such became songwriting partners. At that point, she had to let them go to form a band that became the Eagles.

Ooh Baby Baby, this is what I've been waiting for! It's About Time we had a tribute thread to Linda Ronstadt. My Mad Love for Linda's lovely music is like a  Heat Wave burning in my heart. I've been a fan of Linda's for a Long Long Time now through the Tracks of My Years and I'm Willin' to bet their are many other fans of Linda Ronstadt here too. Just One Look at Linda's impressive discography reveals a plethora of classic evergreen songs that have really stood the test of time. It Hurts So Bad to know that Linda is travelling to the beat of a Different Drum these days as she battles Parkinson's disease and is no longer able to sing. Linda Ronstadt once asked Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and my answer to Linda is I'm Crazy about you and I Will Always Love You today, tomorrow and for All of My Life. After all, It's So Easy to love Linda Ronstadt and if I ever stop listening to her marvellous songs and albums, then That'll Be the Day that I die.  Broken Heart

I have Many River's to Cross before I get around to listening to Linda Ronstadt's entire discography. It may take a Long Long Time, but I can promise I'll post an albums playlist here, eventually. Thumbs Up

My brother never saw her in concert.  He thought Linda was the most beautiful woman in the world.  

My RN job is caring for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's patients.  Some Alzheimer's patients don't know they're in the hospital. Some think they're in a hotel.  The Parkinson's patients are aware and know what's happening.   In some ways ignorance is bliss. I had an ex-professional football player Alzheimer's patient. He thought I was a waitress. He'd talk about needing to eat and run and getting dressed to go do a TV commercial. Not so with the Parkinson's patients.  There's a sadness. I do my best to talk to them...ease their pain...and respect them as an individual. That said, I have a Parkinson's patient who is extremely funny...he tells me jokes and makes funny comments about the hospital staff.  

Often, families misdiagnose Parkinson's patients with dementia.  Sometimes their meds give Parkinson's patients hallucinations. In other words, the meds can make Parkinson's patients appear as if they have dementia.  I believe most Parkinson's patients can be taken care of at home.  I hope and pray Linda has people who love her and surround her.

Linda Ronstadts Long, Long Time was beautifully and similarly intertwined (but in a differnt way of course) into the Last of Us (episode 3) storyline as Kate Bush's Running up the Hill was in Stranger Things . So I guess that's how I discovered her voice. As much as I like her singing voice I think most of her songs are rather dull and forgettable.

I have to wonder if Linda had any connections w Frank Zappa (my fav artist as many prob know) ??

They recorded an ad together in '67, and she briefly made in appearance in the Uncle Meat film. I could not imagine Linda anywhere near a Mothers recording lol, but I'm sure they crossed paths (being on the W. Hollywood music scene) more than once. 

Linda was easy to please (or so I heard) and I assume she was taken aback by Frank's humor and professionalism (despite not caring for him musically). Frank never brought her up afaict, but I'm sure they had great deep respect for each other! Smile

Any thoughts or factual info?

Miraculous voice, and I give her full credit for rebooting (before rebooting was "a thing") the Great American Songbook in the early 1980s with her 3 albums with Nelson Riddle: What's New, Lush Life, and For Sentimental Reasons. 

Absolutely no one was singing/recording/performing those songs any more, and two of those three albums actually made the Top 20 when her audience was expecting her to endlessly continue with the roots rock/arena rock/country rock that made her famous.

Guess I better check those three albums out. String soaked standards featuring Linda's voice on top, should be right up my alley (always thought Nelson Riddle was Sinatras best arranger, and I love those exotic "light music"-releases Sea of Dreams and Love Tide of his). It mostly depends on how much of that 1980's style jazz pop style* that sneaked it's way into the sheer sound of it all, I suppose. She's got a truly wonderful voice as we can all agree on, but I can only stomach so much of those samey country rockin' arrangements. I like all her folkier ballads (with strings), and some of her covers - such as You're No Good - as it's simply a well crafted, well performed pop tune. I wish she was a folk singer... and british:)

Like the Stone Poneys material? I don't think she used string until her work with Nelson Riddle.

I only know her covers; did she write and record anything?
