'Untitled' (yes, that's the name of it) by Atmos Don’t stretch your hand For the Use of Carnal Knowledge, For small fleeting moments As if you had a choice Go, your time is now I reflect ‘Now is time, though all together strange, yet how must I make sense of this madness?’ Anew! You start again Back again, drowning for air, you come crawling to your bed Even now you are not lost Now, In Tandem Together My light, still mundane, can I recall, A simpler lifeline? A lifetime of moments! The time is back, with it’s parallel minds Searching for a reason, to come back from my limbo Too Far, Too Soon I stand stripped, before creation, akimbo! Onward we march! I can not be taken, I can not be slave And although the master beats us He never tells us, how we should behave Eagles flying Summer Crying Sunshine the Tears Away To grip, an anesthetic anger! Which reflects Again, an arduous anchor! Back again, you turn around Feeling, You kiss the ground If I could go back again, to savor those moments A small fleeting feeling Of moonshining madness! Once more, Time I reflect ‘Now is time, though all together strange, yet how must I make sense of this gladness?’ |

I find it to be certainly impressive, even I don't so well understand what it's about.

He's talking about the childhood's end of the Humanity, so I understand it more as a coming of the human art or humanity to a higher level of development.

A little piece i wrote a few years back called 'The Green lane and the Horses skull'
This ancient byway, once well maintained, now overgrown its
course barely remains. Blocked storm drain, heavy rain has pitted and scoured the stone
paved lane. Weeds grown rank, collapsed earth bank, nigh on
untraversable. Brambles, nettles and docks, ocher-red west Country soil; badgers excavated spoil in softening heaps with root, twig
and branch. Ancient sets, scrapes and runs, witnesses to a hundred
thousand setting suns. And within this detritus the first glimpse of greening bone; protruding from beneath twisted root and rough-hewn stone. I kneel in moist mold, I squint and peer, to try to get a
view that’s clear and so haltingly to scratch and pick then to excavate,
through the native shales and slate. Gently, softly; and then to see the herbivorous jaw-line
jutting forward, free, the large brown-stained teeth of Equine form. Buried beneath this ancient thorn. Ribs protruding out through moss, furze and fern; fractured
fragments at every turn. further on a femur exposed, pushed up and out of place by
buttress serpentine, Hidden midst the old man’s beard and honeysuckle withy-wine. Who placed this noble beast interned discreet? Was it of working stock or loyal steed? The farm-boys nag or the Squires seat? Buried here so the hounds may not have their feed? With a boundary-bank built upon its back, planted thick with
saplings firm; Their grip holds true against Mother Moon’s straining
fingers and the earthly legions of the worm. Its bed, a mediaeval wall, whose rude clay bricks show a
palm pressed in, clear and bold, the whorls and lines of the creator’s prints their fortune
long foretold. And here, a broken pipe of clay, seemingly discarded, thrown
away Maybe he who laid out the equine corpse smoked a bowl at the
close of play And left, in respect, this simple grave-good to a trusted
companion and friend No longer a beast of burden, now a winged Pegasus, upward to
the stars ascends. |

^ It's a more optimistic VDGG song. I'm pretty sure Hamill is talking about how we must make a better world for our children, even though we'll never see the fruits of their labor. It's an existential masterpiece.

By the way, can you maybe tell what Peter Hammill more exactly was thinking about in those lyrics? |

Here's a Poem Based on a Monet painting
'Water Lily Pond' (Painting and Poem title)
Water, at the center of the valley, among the reeds Speaks to us, in solemn tranquility Whether it is silent and does not judge our earthly deeds We do not know All we know is there is water in the middle of the hills Sitting, flowing, ebbing into a river. Springing and going, where the water wills Loyal to no one but it’s own Lilies, bumping into each other, lazily floating A dragonfly lands on one, resting, then takes flight once more And although it seems the Weeping Willow sits still It sits, as it’s leaves like tears still pour A single lily under the shadow of the ancient oaken bridge Is born It stretches its leaves like a child waking up, it rubs its eyes Is torn A Pond remembers all these things, as a man and woman leaned against the Willow Or when he proposed to her on that bridge Taking their kids there and showing them the lilies and the reeds A Pond remembers those kids growing up, and showing their friends the pond’s beauty An old couple sitting on the bridge, old and peaceful remembering It’s fish, life, grass and weeds A Pond remembers those kids growing up, and showing their kids the pond As the old couple never came to the pond again So, the children come to plant their own seeds |

I didn't know this thread existed until now, but here's a poem I wrote earlier this year
Aftermath
I’m back in the city again, pensive, wandering about as I wonder what to do without old crutches, old curses carrying my daily verses. Tick tock, tick tock, the clock in my subconscious always ticking, consigning me back to my glass prison; all reason discarded, mental treason disregarded. When will I progress? When will I suppress my burning desires? Only time will show me where I really am; only strife will show me my authentic self, self-will in limbo, self-care in suspension. When all color turns to monochrome, will I turn to a false refuge? When all bliss turns to sorrow, will I bury my newfound clarity? Back in the city again, I wander with heart in hand as a tempest brews within; temptation and redemption clash as I process every old sin. Only time will tell me whether I reached heaven or created my own hell; only my inner blues can face me if I face my own private cell. |

THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA Lyric (based on Hemingway's book and used in the song of the same name from Steve McCann's album 'The Wide Sargasso Sea') © JD Dinsdale 2006 Every day before dawn He puts his boots and slicker on Strolls on down To the pier and casts away He guides by fish and by birds Undaunted by ridiculing words Sets his sail The old man and the sea This puts in motion events To test his skills to their extents Strike the bait The marlin and the man Lady sea no release She stole his trophy piece by piece Legends say The old man passed away |

I kind of doubt it's a widespread trend in music. I can't think of any other lyricist doing this at this time. My inspiration for heading in this direction started at a young age when I first heard I Am the Walrus. It has since been inspired by poets Ron Silliman, Christopher Dewdney, Joe Rosenblatt, Barrett Watten, Peter Ganick, Larry Eigner, Michael Waldecki, and e.e. cummings. Even in poetry, I don't think this is as widespread. Other than cummings, I don't think the others I have listed are well known.

This kind of very experimental lyrics, is it much your own way to do it, or is it a more widespread trend? |
