Paranoia all around me
Disarray in front and back
Cadillacs and Chevy Blazers
Mounting their attack

Jagged glass and dirty pin
Protruding from the ground
Taking steps so lightly
That they barely touch the ground

Hurried siren from afar
A child screams in pain
Insanity surrounds us all
Some things you can't explain

Broken, as a wafer is
Then served up to the masses
Hold your breath and hold your thoughts
Until the feeling passes

Quite impressive, and I have some ideas but could also like to hear some comments from the author. Tongue

In churning wakes as light recedes
Guiding lights of emerald green
And red that seems to bleed

Pulled away in strange effect
By force of nature, disconnect
No warning left to heed

Slipped so quickly from my gaze
Engulfed and swallowed by the haze
Our life became unfurled

Across the flats with careful haste
We broke to land and then we faced
Electric water world

Beautiful vocabulary, what is it about?
Surviving a storm at sea and the vision of a port's lights in the distance.

Stuff like this usually begins when I'm driving and a thought string enters my head. I usually scribble it on a note pad but have on occasion used my phone's audio recorder. Things develop in bits and pieces and I put it together and expand on it later.

And I knew blood had been spilled

The Requiem for the unknown soldier

Rings out through his mother’s cries

Now your fathers funeral pyre is burning ever brighter

We hum along and play a marching tune

Now watch the Minstrel play his flute and kettledrum

And as he tunes his harp tune ever higher

He plays a requiem for the fallen rovers

Thousands of men across the song

The Friar reads from the book of John

As the Minstrel strums his cittern

Thumbs Up  What kind of music are those lyrics for?

A Ballad I suppose, a bit of ambient as well

In Honour of This Day

Lyric (work in progress)
For This Land
© JD Dinsdale 2023

We got the call at 0500
The planes were fueling up
Our gear was stowed
And clips were tapped
Only prayer could interrupt

To take our place
Among the brave
Surrounded by the sand
A paper face to warm the heart
Love's anchor in our hand

We all march together
Good soldiers row on row
Back to flag and family
By way of Oramacto
We all march together
For a country strong and free
We all march together
Into eternity

American Boots

American boots on Syrian soil, kindle the cauldron to bubble and boil
Isis rises from the sand, melting into crowds, they plot to foil
American boots on Syrian soil, blending in yet unfound
Isis mix with folks in town surrounded by American soldiers all around,

Syrian cobra suicide strike, “Yikes, that’s thrice this week.
At the pub last night Joe got blown up with a girl in curls
when the shoeshine boy blew the pub plumb down.”
American boots on Syrian soil board American boats bound for American ground

Love-starved wives weep for lovers, cry with mothers
as they bury brothers and sons in cemetery soil.
Tank snakes shoot venom, uncoil, and spoil Middle East peace,

“At least there’s war in Syria again”,
Said the four-star general to the congressman.

here's the opening to a song I wrote called 'Child's Play" and some other favorite lines. Overall it might need some editing, and a bit of re-writing, but i'm happy with where most of it sits

Deep throated vocals of a time long past

Far above the melee and moral bombast

Ritualistic mornings crafted of gold

Who is our God whom you have extolled?

Though our truths will seldom align

The Child remains to play

I have yours and you have mine

Time to sunshine the fears away,

I hold your hand while we dine.

Some night other lines:
"Scared to peak at the bodies I know, You’re scared you’ll see a face that’s your own"

"Back in the morning, there was a border for us apart, A boundary for lack of order, Where we all must look forward to start!"

"To sit out on the playground and watch, While the wise girls down whiskey and scotch"

The Wheel of Time Turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the shadow.

Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time...
