Season 2 is much more like it and actually delivers some sci-fi action with mostly the same characters. Perhaps comes off the rails slightly towards the end of S2 as they move towards a potential S3 (presumably). Overall a pretty decent watch. Apple is rapidly becoming the home of sci-fi. Hopefully they keep it up and don't go the same way as Netflix. 8/10

I've just completed season 2 as well. I normally agree with your assessments but alas not this time. Series 2 was quite poor and I much preferred the first season. SE02 appears to have a larger budget, but a weaker script in my opinion. All the characters from season 1 have returned, which I was very surprised at - even the school bully is here (though he seems nice now). Some tenuous links seem to appear from nowhere and these are used to drive the story, which is understandable I suppose, but annoying nonetheless. I generally love sci-fi but sadly these unlikeable characters make the wildest, most ridiculous decisions based on situations that are totally unbelievable. There is more action though, but this is one of the reasons I liked season 1 better - it was purely about the characters, now it's just a weak, absurd script and story. 4/10

have to admit that the school bully turnaround was very odd although they did go into his back story a bit to explain how he became a bully. Perhaps a bit far fetched on that change in personality to someone who now was giving a f**k but I'm prepared to go with it. I let a lot of TV wash over me, not big on story lines having to make sense. The pen pushers can make anything happen. I didn't get that worried about how GOT finished for instance. Mother of Dragons goes psycho and Bran ends up as king. Tad silly but even after watching a second time it didn't spoil it for me.

A fact about the bully, Monty, in Invasion. The actor (Paddy Holland) is in fact the younger brother of Tom Holland. No family resemblance there.

Lockwood & Co  Set in an alternate 1980s England, events take place 50 years after "The Problem". Initially not much is given away about The Problem but it has caused ghosts and spirits to become prevalent, necessitating the need for "special" agents to tackle them. The story starts when a young girl starts her training to become a hunter. When things go wrong she moves to The Smoke and joins a brand new agency called Lockwood & Co. I wasn't giving this much hope and assumed it was a YA show. But it's surprisingly good and really well made with great action scenes and a decent story (it's based on a book series which gives it chance). The music is top notch with lots of 80s goth music used - in episode 1 there were 2 Bauhaus songs and some Cure too - which is rather nice. It's getting great ratings too which is why the reason Netflix has not renewed a second series is baffling (they didn't market it at all either). 9/10 so far.

P.S. The bully boy from Invasion is in it too lol.

Netflix made too much of a habit of not renewing shows I really enjoyed instead conectrating on reality TV, the boring and often innacurate The Crown and giving shedloads of money to Harry and Meghan. It's a real shame.

Once the brilliant Ozark finished it was downhill all the way imo.

Gen-V (8 episodes)

For those not well versed with The Boys, this spin off is about the generation of young adults who have been given the drug 'V' quite widely. This produces random 'super powers' some of which are effective and some just merely entertainment value it seems. This campus based drama draws on all sorts of teen horror and frat pack type movies for much of its ideas. It's incredibly well done and has the high production values of The Boys. Thankfully they don't spare the gore or the weird humour that profligates the main show and maybe even take it up a further notch. Pure full on entertainment. 8.5/10

Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 Part One (6 episodes)

Do we need more of this stuff, probably not in truth. This spin off from the main series seems to exist mainly to give British actor Lenny White (''Morgan'') something to do. He's brilliant and has been carrying the show for a while. Thankfully he's still in it so I binged the 6 episodes (and have also watched the 2 episodes of Part Two that are available). It does something though that I don't like , jumps 7 years so Morgan's daughter (also called 'Morgan') can be old enough to be significant. This makes it feel very unreal to me and most of the emotional scenes don't land well because too much story has come and gone. 6/10

^ I'm caught up to season 7, with 8 still to watch. Just like TWD, for me it's just been watching for the sake of it as I've invested so much time in these shows. FTWD went bad a long time ago and the last couple of series have been pretty dire. I've still got the other 2 spin offs to watch yet (Dead City and Daryl Dixon, as well as the Rick one to come too). I watched the first 2 eps of The World Beyond and that really was poor - I rarely give up on any TV show but man that was baaad.

Finished Lockwood & Co - brilliant. It's a real shame Netflix have not renewed, but hopefully another network will take it on (as The Expanse)

Also just finished watching the 3 part documentary on the BBC: The Detectives Taking Down an OCG. This is a fascinating watch and one of the best of this ilk I've seen. The police and witnesses in this are incredible people; brave is not a strong enough word to describe them. It's tense and disturbing in equal measures. Really well done and takes place over 2 years of investigation with a heart-breaking ending.

I enjoyed Season 7 a lot which is why I purchased S8. Victor Strand is a great character!

The Morning Show Season 3 (10 episodes)

I enjoyed the first 2 seasons a lot and was looking forward to this. Might be just me but it feels as if the writing is not as strong as the first couple. Too much happens just to give characters hurdles to jump. It gets very silly in places especially. On the plus side I like seeing Billy Cruddup's CEO character trying to keep the train wreck on the tracks and it's fun to see Stephen Fry playing a very obnoxious Britsh chap lurking in the background while pulling strings. There are some good things to enjoy but ultimately it just falls flat. 5/10

I just find the stories getting sillier and sillier. I liked Strand too, but why did he suddenly get so bad? The best character was John Dorie, but we know what happened to him. The submarine business was all a bit daft too. Did you know about the spin off of a spin off i.e. FTWD: Dead in the Water? Link. Six very short episodes totalling about 40 minutes. I've not got round to watching it yet.

Strand was always a dodgy character, ''hubris'' perhaps? He seemed to think he was doing the right thing (at least that's as he explained himself to Alicia). Yep liked John Dorie (the same actor memorably played ''The Terminator'' in the Chronicles of Sarah Connor if you remember that?!), enjoyable charcter and also his Dad (played by the brilliant Keith Carradine)
no I wasn't aware of that spin off of a spin off! Nick Stahl is a great actor so intrigued certainly. No idea what platform that is on in the UK but will hopefully check it out at some point. cheers!

Last night we finished series 3 of the excellent Upload. Series 2 suffered because of covid but this latest one was on the ball. Brilliant comedy/sci-fi. 9/10

Finished Loki Season 2 the other day, what a great show. Marvel hasn't been on their game recently, but the show, especially the finale, was fantastic!

The Morning Show (season 3)
Drama
6/10
Not quite as compelling as previous season, but the Mrs. really likes it so I'm happy to tag along.

Foundation (season 2)
Sci-Fi/Drama
8/10
You really need to keep your eye on the ball with this one. Time jumps in the story line and characters that come and go. Are they dead, alive, imagined? Not a show to watch as you drift off to sleep.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Payback 6 episodes

Scottish made crime drama featuring the ever brilliant (and ever typecast it seems) Peter Mullan as a Glaswegian gangster. He does it so well you do wonder what he does in his spare time?!
This is very well written and will likely only be a one off limited series. Recommend binging it for maximum enjoyment 8/10

The Enfield Poltergeist (4 episodes)

The much publicised and famous 'haunting' of the late seventies has already been made into a drama and now we have a drama documentary. The psychic investigator of the time (Maurice Grosse) amassed over 200 hours of tape recordings of strange noises and goings on at the house in Enfield that surrounded 2 sisters. There were also photos taken and one very striking one in particular seemed to give creedence to the idea that there was supernatural phenomena taking place. The clever thing here is that actors are filmed lip synching the characters words. Creeped me out a bit but doesn't change me from being a 100% sceptic. However have to admire the throughness as they interview the sisters as well as members of Grosse's family, neighbours and other paranormal investigators. 8/10
