The sixth best-known Nolan (after the five Nolan Sisters). Are there any British Neo Prog bands left that Clive Nolan hasn't been involved with at some time over the last forty years? Not many. Yes, it's England's answer to Ayreon! Clive Nolan has the singular distinction of being the youngest ever musician (aged 16) to gain a diploma at the prestigious London College of Music. The prodigious number of bands Clive's been involved with over the years reads like a veritable Who's Who of Neo Prog:- Arena; Pendragon; Shadowland; Strangers on a Train (with Tracy Hitchings); NEO; Gandalf's Fist; Caamora (with Agnieszka Swita); Casino (with Geoff Mann); Nolan & Wakeman (with Oliver Wakeman); and finally, Nolan & Barrett (with Nick Barrett). No doubt it would cost a King's Ransom to own Clive Nolan's entire discography, so why not delve into some of the free Hidden Treasure below that Clive has sprinkled with his invisible touch of keyboard Alchemy on YouTube. It's magic! Thumbs Up

CLIVE NOLAN'S EPIC DISCOGRAPHY OF MAGICAL MYTHS & LEGENDS

The Grand Wizard of Neo Prog presents six epic albums of rock opera with a cast of characters longer than the biblical epic: Exodus, and all sprinkled with Clive's magic fairy dust. Smile

It serves me right for asking a rhetorical question to which I already knew the answer. Tongue

Anyway, at the last count, the indefatigable Clive Nolan has been involved with no less than 52 Neo Prog albums, which is pretty impressive by anyone's standards, apart from Rick Wakeman, obviously. Tongue

Is 'Double Vision' the worst prog album cover of all time?

It always reminds me of Michael Barrymore. LOL

That Barrymore album cover is almost as awful as Evel Knievel's friend, Awful Knaufel, and yes, that really was his name. Tongue

One of his ancestors was a stunt rider in the early 1400's.

Shadowland is my favourite project of his, so frustrating nobody knows about it. Not on Spotify, no vinyls, like it doesn't exist

At least we're spreading the word about Clive Nolan here at ProgArchives, so he no longer remains in the Shadowlands, so to speak. Smile

ARENA     In the vast arena of Neo Prog, can there be any band that's more unsung than Arena!?? They've built up a strong following amongst prog fans despite not getting any radio airplay. With members drawn from the world of Neo Prog - including Marillion, Pendragon, Shadowland & Frost* - the five band members of Arena, led by keyboard player Clive Nolan, are all instantly unrecognisable. Clive (pictured below) may give you a case of Double Vision as he strongly resembles Gandalf the Wizard from the works of J.R. Tolkien, which surely gives him good credentials as a prog legend. In his spare time, Clive has composed a rock opera and also established his own theatre company. Well, everyone needs a Hobbit. Tongue

PENDRAGON     Believe in the awesome power of prog with Pendragon: The Jewel in the crown of British Neo Prog and one of the "Big 8" Neo Prog bands - the other seven being:- Arena; IQ; Magenta; Marillion; Pallas; Solstice; & Twelfth Night. In The World of Neo Prog, Pendragon don't need to Kowtow to anyone. Their line-up has remained pretty stable over the last four decades with the ever-present vocalist and guitarist Nick Barrett leading the way, backed up by keyboard wizard Clive Nolan (a man of many bands), the Bible-thumping Peter Gee on bass, and a revolving-door line-up of drummers over the years, both Past and Presence. The marvellous music of Pendragon represents Pure Passion, power and glory. so why not open The Window of Life that is Pendragon, where Love Over Fear conquers all. Smile
