BLUE OYSTER CULT began life in New York in 1967 with a mixture of Tyranny and Mutation. Having signed the Secret Treaties with the Columbia record label, the band became Agents of Fortune with the success of their fourth album, which included the all-time classic (Don't Fear) The Reaper. Blue Öyster Cult were able to put the Spectres of years of struggle behind them, with gleaming polished Mirrors reflecting a bright future ahead.  There was now no danger of Blue Öyster Cult becoming extinct like the Cultosaurus Erectus dinosaur. The band were lit up and burning with success in a Fire of Unknown Origin and ready to take the world by storm with a  Revolution by Night down at the Club Ninja. Imaginos was a modern Cult Classic album and a real return to form, but Heaven Forbid that Blue Öyster Cult should end their long career with the Curse of the Hidden Mirror. Never fear though, because the release of their most recent album in 2020 guarantees that the Blue Öyster Cult  Symbol Remains forever! Smile

Simply list your Top 7 Blue Öyster Cult albums below and then choose your favourite songs from each of those seven albums.

My all-time favourite Blue Öyster Cult song from my all-time favourite BOC album: The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria, which Blue Öyster Cult fans know simply as "Frankenstein" and featuring the best singer in the world who no one's ever heard of: Mr. Joey Cerisano! Thumbs Up

Something like this:

Fire of Unknown Origin - Vengeance (The Pact)
Secret Treaties - Astronomy
Cultosaurus Erectus - Black Blade
Spectres - Nosferatu
Agents of Fortune - (Don't fear) The Reaper
Tyranny And Mutation - Wings Wetted Down
The Symbol Remains - Florida Man
-
& btw: Club Ninja is better than its reputation. It would actually get the 8th spot.
-
Also check our Robert Galbraith's (aka J.K. Rowling) book: At the beginning of every chapter of Career of Evil, there is a line or two of lyrics from a Blue Öyster Cult song. -The band and their songs plays a part in the actual storyline as well. It's fun!

I urge everyone to check out BÖC's most recent album, The Symbol Remains. It's a doozy!

^ The Symbol Remains is a great album! Thumbs Up

Staying on the subject of "Seven", how about this starry song from the stellar Imaginos album...

Along the world axis
The Empress lay sleeping
To the rhyme of the, of the, of the star clock
Seven sleepers
Seven sages
Seven ladders to the, to the
Seventh heaven
Seven stars
Had Ursa Major....

Blue Öyster Cult - Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll
Tyranny and Mutation - 7 Screaming Diz Busters
Secret Treaties - Astronomy
Agents of Fortune - E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)
Spectres - The Golden Age of Leather
Cultösaurus Erectus - Black Blade
Fire of Unknown Origin - Veteran of the Psychic Wars

I just finished listening to Albert Bouchard's Re Imaginos. I am enjoying his more stripped down version of Imaginos. Going to move on to Imaginos 2 - Bombs Over Germany next.

One of my favorite 'weird' hard rock bands....I recall hearing their first lp blasting from my brothers front porch in Bloomington IN at IU when I visited him one warm spring day at his new place ....I was still in a dorm. It blew me away and we all rolled a few and continued listening.

Secret Treaties- 'Flaming Telepaths/Atronomy
Blue Ouster Cult-'Transmaniacon MC'
Agents of Fortune-'Dont Fear the Reaper'
Fire of Unknown Origin-'Joan Crawford'
Tyranny and Mutation-'Mistress of the Salmon Salt'
Spectres-'Godzilla'
Curse of the Hidden Mirror-'Old Gods Return'

One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Such a beautiful song. But their debut probably has the most elements of boogie rock (which I have zero patience for) and Eric Blooms vocals often sound forced and just... underdeveloped (he gets much better). Still a pretty good with a handful of truly excellent songs. She's As Beautiful As A Foot, Screams., Cities On Flame... all amazing.

Thinking about how much I love that quartet, their debut should possibly have taken my last and seventh spot. But I was so pleasantly surprised by their latest album, I gave it to The Symbol Remains (but admittedly no songs on it mean as much to me as the mentioned tracks from their self titled)

Is there Life on Mars? No, but there's plenty of life in Las Vegas and the surrounding desert and some of it is extraterrestrial life too.
So best keep The Vigil just in case E.T. happens to drop by.

Favourite song from the Cultosaurus Erectus album.....

Tell ya, they ain't playing no surf music
They're gonna play some heavy music
They're gonna play bad
They're gonna play loud
They know just what I want it to sound like
It's gonna sound like
It's gonna sound like

This!
