Maybe we are giving away 5 star reviews/ratings too often? So, from the last ten years, what are five (and only five), five star releases for you?

Wippy Bonstack - 22
The Aristocrats - Culture Clash
Bubblemath - Edit Peptide
Rascal Reporters - The Strainge Case of Steve
Nova Collective - The Further Side

It's really hard to narrow it down to just five outstanding albums (which means I won't be able to include the last two albums by YES, although I'm sure that'll come as a blessed relief to many here), but here goes anyway.....

5 stars 2021: Forbidden Myth - Zantea Chronicles: The Dream Dominator - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaBU4nHamOnWwcRWn5vOWeV-H2dmxxL_E
2012: Francis Lickerish - Far and Forgot: From the Lost Lands - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kq-pjlZUbHbWHat5VafAgRa4jb9t9rILI
5 stars 2019: Pallas - The Edge of Time - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37V7uR7becU

Prog only, in chronological order.
iamthemorning - Lighthouse
Art Zoyd - Phase V
Cisnienie - Brass Album
Battlestations - Splinters Vol. I: Tremor
Five-storey Ensemble - Presence

There aren't many more, I'm critical enough. Tongue I'd have listed Blackstar but it's Prog Related, so I haven't.

Frost* - Day and Age (my fave post pandemic release)
Magenta - We Are Legend (return to form)
Big Big Train - Folklore (think that just sneaks in timewise and the last of their real masterpeices for me)
Far Corner - Risk (glad to see this mentioned by Ian above!)
Waste Of Space Orchestra - Syntheosis ( a bit odd ball this and got an international release some months after its original Finnish push out. I don't think it was ever properly promoted or appreciated but got into the collabs list of top ten albums of the year before the international release kicked in. Otherwise would likely have made No1 I believe)

As for a genuine five star, I can only think of one that's "prog":
black midi - Hellfire (2022)
But these 4.5's or 9/10's would have been rounded up to five if I had rated them at PA:
Swans - The Glowing Man (2016)
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard  - Polygondwanaland (2017)
Secret Chiefs 3/Ishraqiyun - Perichoresis (2014)
Kosmischer Läufer  - The Secret Cosmic Music of the East German Olympic Program 1972-83: Volume Three (2015)

I'm sure I've forgotten some albums /artists here. Love many more, but I don't hand out five stars easily.

I am guilty of rounding up to five stars. But, not often. My reasoning is... 5 star releases account for 5% of all albums you've heard. So it should be used sparingly.

I think I'm closer to 1.5% (but I rate at RYM, so I might have about 8-9% 4.5's)

And You & I know I hand out 5-star ratings all too easily. Any remaining credibility I had left here was shot to pieces when I gave The Quest album a 5-star rating on (the strength of?) the magical Mystery Tour tribute to The Beatles, which everyone here but me appears to hate. Tongue

For whatever reason, I don't think I'll give any 5 stars for an album from the last 10 years, but this one comes closest:

Universal Totem Orchestra (I) - Mathematical Mother (2016)
quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

those are two addtional 4.5's bordering on 5 (and the remaining three would be 4.5's landing on a 4).

I could only find three 5-star albums on this site from the last 10 years:

Pink Floyd: The Endless River (2014)
Styx: The Mission (2017)
Rick Wakeman: The Red Planet (2020).
