While it is nice to see something "new" from this great band, I personally would much rather see separate releases of these albums plus Focus Con Proby which is very hard to find on CD. |

I bet many people should also prefer separate editions for the live material and the rarities... |

Well, TBH, this boxet is all you really need from the band (and Con Proby as well), but you get tons of live footage, and films, whicjh makes it a bargain (I paid 39.00 at a B&M store in Brussels). Plus the albums come in square papersleeves and there more (empty) space inside the box for more disc (without the jewel cases). You could even fit in the Focus 8 to 11 discs with just the booklet. You can always do what I chose: I put the old CDs in the outgoing pile BTW, don't throw away your Focus Master From The Vault DVD, for there is some stuff on that not present in the boxset. |

Well, for me personally, there is something special about collecting all the albums by a band as stand-alone releases, rather than to buy this kind of box set. I have all Focus studio albums on CD with the sole exception of Focus Con Proby; If I would get that one my Focus collection would be complete. |

Got this for Father's Day today and it exceeded all my expectation. A real knock out.
Only minor gripe is Anonymous is in 2 parts like on the LP version, not as a single track like it was recorded and as featured on the earlier CD release. One small correction: the National Stadium, Dublin, set included was from May (not November) 1973. I was there. Recorded within days of the Live at Rainbow set. In fact what's here is their second Dublin set, following a break during which I got their autographs in the tiny underground dressing room. And I remember Jan's guitar string breaking near the end. Note how effortlessly they pick up again once he restrings. A truly well-oiled machine. Alas, the Anonymous here is unfocussed and jammy, the studio version is much better. But Jan's extra fills at the end still thrill. Here's some trivia I've never seen written down: Focus again at same venue several years later, with P. Catherine in place of Jan (which was a great shock to most present), Thijs introduced one new number as being "For Jan". When it finally surfaced (in inferior form on Focus Con Proby and) later on Live at The BBC, it called Maximum. P. Catherine is one HELL of a player and composer too, of course, as Sneezing Bull and Angel Wings confirm. |

Picked this up about 2 months ago. Superb box set , one of the best I've come across for quality and just what you want. Great re-mastering and brilliant live stuff.

Bought this for next to nothing, seems its going out of print soon (European searches)
And what a beauty it is. I dont quite get those who prefer the albums individually, cause there is tons and tons of bonus material on this ! But it doesnt look to hard getting the seperates on cd or lp. but it wont sound as good as this does, thats a promise !

Yes, I bought this at the beginning of the year... think I discussed it in 'Recent Purchases'; didn't realise it had it's own thread...
Picked it up for around £35, a real bargain and there's a lot of great extras; particularly love the BBC 1973 disk; a peach!

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I was listening to the first CD the other day, and besides the bonus (a massive live rendition of Eruption) the remastered sound itself is awesome, a vast improvement over the old In And Out Of Focus CD.

The thing is, many of us already have the studio albums and might not want to spend on them again, but might want what has not been released before. I rather dislike this way of doing things wanting to force the fans to pay over and over again for the same work. Also, I really hate the square papersleeves, sliding the CDs in and out will end up scratching them. I always end up getting empty jewel cases to put those CDs and protect them better. |

Well ok, but its also a good way to tidy up a collection and provide accessability. I am a sucker for a box set generally, forking out for the VDGG one even though I own a lot of it already. Since I moved recently I've been able to leave 2 very large packing boxes of CD's unpacked because i can easily access my favourite artists via their personalised box sets. I did consider getting rid of everything that is not a box set and would have done that if I had properly downsized as I had originally intended.
