Black Rain, maybe Ridley Scott's third best film after the obvious ones. Some great atmospheric photography set in most industrialised Japan (Osaka?) and a story involving the Yakusa . I don't want to give a major plot detail away but suffice there is a massive early shock that was truly unexpected when I watched it first time. Even second time it got me it was so unusual! If you've not seen this film then please watch it. A real treat.

^ I may follow you on this one. Most of these films are just rather standard Hollywood fare, some above, some below average. Michael Douglas is in that context (standard Hollywood fare) a good actor, but I never found him exceptional, not even in Basic Instinct. Nothing really special in this list, but Black Rain is maybe just above the rest, unless one prefers the soppiness of Fatal Attraction, of course...

As a political conspiracy thriller fan, probably Star Chamber.   Not my favorite actor.

yeah tend to agree about him as an actor and the films he made. Falling Down and The Game are good films coming later but neither are that great. He was always solid and decent box office so he got cast in a lot of standard thriller type stuff. I doubt he has made a better film than Black Rain though.
