My view EXACTLY !!
Started when I was 13 with my first real album purchase and never looked back. I have probably had 6 or 8 different sound systems over the years as components come and go. Right now it just happens to be Phono Pre-Amp and possibly new Stylus. I'm not young anymore so heavy investments don't seem overly logical to me.
But as @Catcher10 said, if I won the Lotto...Look Out !

If I win the lotto.. I could finally afford some VDGG albums, they're pricey! None of the record stores I've visited have them
Yup....finding prog records in the wild is a tough one.

I'm thinking of getting one to aide in my LP repairs for skips, ticks and embedded debris.

I use one to help setup my cartridge, rarely though as getting a good image is difficult as any movement causes a blur. Just buy one of the cheapies on eBay.......

Acquired from a record executive's private collection out in BC. Described as 1st issues, un-sealed but un-played.
I've play graded these as Mint Condition. Pristine from beginning to end. The Holy Grail of used LP's.
Cost of the lot divided by the qty yields an average price of around $26 ea. all in (incl. delivery)
I have a second batch on order for next week and then maybe a last one in October.

It's a little like time traveling. Given the cost now vs then, It's at par and even a little cheaper in cases. And when these 'archival/mint condition' come around I have no problem pouncing.

From a 2022 article on billboard.com
In 1978, vinyl records were more expensive than any other time since the RIAA began tracking sales in 1973. That year, the average retail sale price of a vinyl EP/LP was $7.32 – equal to $30.18 in today’s dollars when adjusted for inflation.

I picked up an original Happy the Man album in fantastic condition in the town they formed in

I’ve been saying for sometime vinyl is no more expensive than it was back in the day with inflation, there are many who don’t understand this financial fact.
But hey to each his own…..

With summer in full bloom here, I have not been spinning much records as most of my free time has been spent outside. Hopefully winter comes soon so I can stay indoors............Big smile

Don't let that stop you ! I spin one a night, just after my honey goes up to bed. Then I'll throw a movie on until I go up.
There's always room for records. Big smile
I have another batch of 11 on their way for when I get back after cottage week.

Are you getting better performance from your records?

I haven't had the time to try the new tech yet, and I want to get a new pre-amp as was discussed previously. I'm hoping to get it for xmas. A long wait I know, but right now I'm buying these archival LP's in batches.

What I take away is more people (music fans) are choosing vinyl/analog over CD/digital......Even under the argument that vinyl is more expensive.
I've never taken a deep dive to figure out, but wonder if there are any reports on used vinyl sales? That has to be off the charts!
