Went yesterday to the Pacific AudioFest in Seattle...I went last year as well. Get to hear some amazing systems, most gear is way out of my price range with many of it attainable only via winning the PowerBall. It was a lot of fun, and this year they had a record fair in one of the halls........Picked up following 4 records. I have my OG BFast In America but it's been played thru, this one is NM and plays super clean. I used to have an OG Parliament but lost in a house move, glad to have this one back in the collection and plays NM but looks VG+, still has the order form and return envelope. 90% of what you find in the wild is simply roached on Parliament records, and no sign of any reissues soon.
Frankie/Hollywood is just nostalgia from the MTV video days to dance clubs back in the day with my soon to be wife, LP was a cheap buy at $6, no brainer. Alice In Chains is a 2020 reissue cut by Chris Bellman, sounds great. |

Here is one pic of having to win the PowerBall.....These are the Genesis Prime speaker system, there is a ton of history behind the design of these speakers, I think this is the 10th iteration of these speakers. Used to be known as Infintiy IRS-V. They are 7'-6" tall
A cool....$680,000.00

I only bought one TFK reissue and the sound is amazing. Century Media/Inside Out has amazing quality. I probably should get more!

All the ones I have sound excellent, Roine has done a great job in remixing some of the music and the remastering has been great as well. Optimal Media cuts and presses the records and they always do a great job! Yes you should buy more of them.....I think I'm done buying the back catalog on LP, I have all the ones I really like and wanted.

JD, any idea about what "La Cinquiéme Saison" can be on Harmonium's Les Cinq Saison?

Not 100% sure I understand your question, but the Harmonium LP Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison translates to If We Needed A Fifth Season. Is that what you're asking?

No, there're four seasons, but there's a track called "The Fifth Season", so I wonder what this fifth season can be.

Well the fifth season in Ontario is Construction. An old joke, but a true one ! Which track (and album) are you thinking of, none of them from Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison are called that to my knowledge. |

Okay, right, no track on Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison is actually called "La Cinquieme Saison", but my copy of this album includes an insert with lyrics, drawings, credits and track list. The track list shows that each song represents a season, and the last one called "Histoires sans Paroles" represents "la cinquieme saison". So maybe la cinquieme saison (the fith season) is histoires sans paroles.

^ The four pages insert includes also a very long text entitled "La cinquieme saison" but written in French which I only know little of. Edited by David_D - August 01 2023 at 13:13 |

I'm going to post this here, since it is about analog and vinyl, and not on like JDs recent post about what NOT on vinyl.
What irks me, not just on PA but yes mainly here, are those that continue to make comments like "if you spend $10-20-30-50K..." or the "I don't have $20K to spend on hi end gear...". Most of us do not have that kind of extra cash laying around to go out and buy say $15K worth of audio gear, that's not how this works. Both audio gear and buying music (in any format) is a hobby. Put it this way, for those that have say 2,000 CDs or 1,500 LPs in their collections, did you go out and spend that money in one purchase over say a weeks time?? NO!!! It was built over time, some might say close to a lifetime or easily around 10-15 yrs starting as a teen buying LPS or CDs. The very same goes for audio gear, it's a process of buying, selling, trading, waiting for deals, closeouts, model changes and mainly saving up money for purchases (at least for me as I don't use credit to buy any gear or music), cash only....remember it's a hobby. I will never divulge how much I have spent on audio gear, none of your business!! Some of you know what is in my system and can Google it and see MSRP, but all I say is I've never paid MSRP for my gear and that's all. If you go to SHF, you'll read that many do not pay MSRP, that's what the S is for "Suggested".....You have to make offers on what you can afford, simple as that. I cannot afford to go out and buy my system in one fell swoop, and I would suggest most of cannot either, it's a process of building what you want over time. I would say none of us have a couple $100K laying around to pay cash for the house we bought, or $30K laying around to buy that car, no we finance those things because they are essential to our daily lives. On the flip side if I were to win the Lotto, you damn phuqing a right I'm gonna go spend $200K on a dream system, possibly more and guess what, I'll be able to pay cash for that! And LPs are not anymore expensive than they were back in 1976 take inflation into consideration, it's pretty much on par, so that argument has no merit. What you spend on gear is what you want to and can afford, it's easy as that but the main point is it's a process to build a system, and a fun process done over time.

Absolutely. This is a great post and definitely identify fully with your position. This hobby of ours is a labor of love. God. It has taken me around 10 years to get to where I am and it really wasn’t about the knowledge to do these properly or synergistically regarding equipment matching. It was about money. Yes. It is expensive but if you love the interest you’ll budget and make it work. It is all about dedication and of course knowing what to buy without getting into too much of the law of diminishing returns concept. |

^^ My view EXACTLY !! Started when I was 13 with my first real album purchase and never looked back. I have probably had 6 or 8 different sound systems over the years as components come and go. Right now it just happens to be Phono Pre-Amp and possibly new Stylus. I'm not young anymore so heavy investments don't seem overly logical to me. But as @Catcher10 said, if I won the Lotto...Look Out ! Edited by JD - August 07 2023 at 09:25 |

And then there were Three..., and From the Beginning, and of Course Foxtrot.. MOST were used except for Foxtrot

Nice score ! Just out of curiosity, has anyone here got or used a digital microscope? I'm thinking of getting one to aide in my LP repairs for skips, ticks and embedded debris. |

Yeah of course, but the bottom line most equipment purchases are very relative to what you know and what your standards of quality are from an SQ point of view. And yes. The cost no object concept is really fun to think about but I do primarily like to focus on what is realistic. |

If I win the lotto.. I could finally afford some VDGG albums, they're pricey! None of the record stores I've visited have them |

Very true my headphone maniac! I pick gear that gets me right at that point of diminishing returns for the money I spend, it is all relative. I look for gear that plays well above it's price point, and either go listen to it or read heavily all the reviews. That's the other thing that I think most of these audio gear haters have never even heard a system that has been put together with care, regardless of cost $1,500 system or a $150,000 system....and are basing everything on streaming from their phone of laptop speakers. Anyhow, I encourage all to go hear a system, digital or analog, that has been meticulously setup......I promise you it will put your ears into a new world and allows you to hear your music as you've never experienced before, and that value is yours to determine.
