T. Rex
What can be said that has not been said, written or dreamed about regarding this myth indused band. I sometines have the thought and reaction that Mark Bolan is the figure that english or american musoes of that generation had a reaction towards. In my youth in early 2000s, manny of the people with serios and respected music taste, had three bands that often were shared, in that they were true artistic bands of integrity, which were Velvet Underground, the Doors....and T. Rex. They epitomizes what musical africindos were into. Its never uncool to namedrop liking T. Rex or have a Bolan refrance in a conversation. Which of the bands album is your favourite, which is always is that cool album. Edited by Icarium - July 21 2023 at 13:17 |

The Slider as quite a memory from the teenage years but I may find Electric Warrior quite as good.

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised that the Tyrannosaurus Rex albums weren't included... but even if they were, I'd still have to go with Electric Warrior

VU
has always been oozing with credibility. But I've come to learn that in
the 1970's, guys into "serious rock" wouldn't be caught dead diggin' T.
Rex. Bowie and Roxy were ok, but Bolan's Glam Rock were considered
lightweight* bubblegum music for silly teenage girls. Hard to understand all these rules (for what you were allowed to
listen to and not) in retrospect. The Doors also lost their cool in the
1970's and were thought of as hairy hippie music. For the late-70's
punks they were about as unhip as ...Camel. Of course even in back in the day there were those who didn't give a
damn about such things, and simply enjoyed what they enjoyed. But there
were strict rules and I've encountered these older guys in behind the counter in record
stores etc...I've seen their looks and heard their comments whenever I wanted the wrong album by the wrong artist (which of course included all things prog). *which I suppose it is. But it grooves, so who cares.

That makes a lot of sense, and it's fascinating what happens to artists' reputations with the benefit of hindsight. It reminds me a lot of what's going on with the current nu-metal reappraisal these days... bands like Korn, Slipknot, and System of a Down were laughed at by the "true" metal fans back then, but now they're praised as some of the most iconic bands of their generation. How the tables have turned (for the record, I actually enjoy a lot of those nu metal bands, so I'm all for it)

I've never found this band to be that special, so I didn't even know they released so many albums.
