In parallel with Susan Christie, you may also like Folk singer Linda Perhacs - not quite as obscure but hardly a household name, even in her own household. Linda recorded one amazing album in 1970 and then disappeared off the radar, seemingly forever, before making the most miraculous comeback since Lazarus over forty years later with two further tantalizing albums of Psych-Folk on the equally intriguing Asthmatic Kitty label. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - July 13 2023 at 16:48 |

^Yep I'm aware of Linda Perhacs - she is in my collection already. Another relatively obscure one for you from my collection, who I think only made one album as so many aspiring singer songwriters did in that late 60's / early 70's period did, is Sally Eaton. From her 1970 album 'Farewell American Tour' we have 'Flowers in the Air'. Edited by Progishness - July 19 2023 at 08:34 |

![]() Not bad at all and unlike any album I've heard before. I'll file Kali Bahlu under Raga Rock. I'll check out Sally Eaton too later on today. In the meantime, here's a sweet slice of sixties Psych-Folk from California girl Penny Nichols. ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - July 20 2023 at 13:35 |

Another obscure find of mine is Elyse Weinberg, and in particular her debut album 'Elyse' from 1969. A year later she did make a follow-up album, with the assistance of Nils Lofgren and Neil Young, called 'Greasepaint Smile' but due to her record company going bust it didn't get released till 2015. Here's 'Deed I Do' from the 1969 album. Edited by Progishness - July 20 2023 at 12:10 |

You've picked another winner with Sally Eaton - a psych-pop princess and a Wiccan high priestess too! She reminds me partly of Melanie, Janis Joplin and Bonnie Tyler, although sounding better than all three to my ears. ![]() ![]() Here's a song, Once Before You Go Edited by Psychedelic Paul - July 20 2023 at 13:19 |

I've been big fan of Melanie since the 70's - I even used to have a poster of her on the wall of my room at uni. All she had was an acoustic guitar and that voice, but what a mighty fine racket she made! But in the mean time I will definitely check out Penny Nichols - she sure looks like a classic late 60's hippie chick!

I just added Penny Nichols, Michele O'Malley and Linda Perhacs to my Legends of Laurel Canyon artists index too. They're so good, I now get to feature and listen to them twice over.

The whole Flower of Love thing was rather watered down cheesiness for clueless hippies unaware of other escapist artists that preceded. I've lived in the SF Bay Area for a long time and the whole Haight Street psychedelic scene is really just an amusement park setting for tourists to spend their money on Grateful Dead tiedye T-shirts. The Bay Area offered psychedelic outsider weirdo music long before with one of the most notable being Harry Partch who operated in the context of 20th century modern classical but pretty much invented an inventory of self-made instruments that delved into the possibilities of microtonality. His efforts yielded not only some of the most experimental music of the era but also some of the most alienating and thus psychedelic. Just listen to this famous cut and you can hear all the characteristics of what was incorporated into the psychedelic pop and rock of the late 1960s without the catchy easy on the ears melodies. This half hour mindf**k is his most famous offering. It was recorded in 1963 / 64. Edited by siLLy puPPy - October 09 2023 at 09:32 |

Call me a sentimental old fool, but I Love Sunshine Pop and Psychedelic Pop and if I ever went to San Francisco (wearing flowers in my hair), then I'd be first in the queue for a tie-dyed Jefferson Airplane T-shirt in the Haight-Ashbury district.

^ it was a special time thst is romanticized and loved
I just wanted to share an underground type of music that offered elements to what rock and pop would adopt The problem I have with the summer of love mythology is that kids still come here mesmerized by it ideology and get hooked on drugs and live on the street |

ANT TRIP CEREMONY No time to stand on ceremony as this is Ant Trip Ceremony, a short-lived Psychedelic Rock band from Logan, Utah. College boys Ant Trip Ceremony got together for 24 Hours to record this one amazing album before returning to their studies. Only 300 copies of the original vinyl album were ever pressed, making it an instant collectors item. The album is currently available on CD from Amazon for a cool £108 if you're itching to get your hands on it. ![]() |

A-Z of Psychedelic Rock
AORTA A Psychedelic Rock band from Chicago who supported some of the major names of the time, including Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin and the Mothers of Invention. According to legend, Aorta were offered LSD before a major showcase concert at the Fillmore East and subsequently gave a "train-wreck" performance, and the band were gone in a heartbeat. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
