A bunch of bands off the top of my head

Random list of bands, not artist names, other than I have been into all of these, and this was put together quickly as something to do while I wait in a parking lot. If you like any of these, please vote for up to five (for those who like limits and more for those who don’t if they want to be limited) and maybe say something about your favourite albums.

I’ll be interested to see how comments and mentions multiple albums and how many mention the not such big names at least at our forum. And If anyone dies not like any of these, that to would be interesting to me, and feel free to talk about you like. both positive and negative comments about the selection are welcome.

EDITED: I added Portishead, bizarre omission from me (should have been one of the first I thought of, and maybe it was and I promptly forget) and The Residents as I have been getting more into The Residents of late. I'm giving Portishead a vote. This band has been so played by me over the last few years.

Many of these bands I'm unfamiliar with, so an easy choice for me of Tangerine Dream, followed by Spyrogira (the British Prog Folk band and not the American Jazz Fusion combo).

I have quite a big collection mostly in storage. I mostly stream music these days, and I do that with albums in my collection too. I still purchase some records, and pay for certain music on bandcamp. In the first instance because I like to collect, and in the latter just to support and give something back to the artist especially since I don't get out to a lot of concerts. I want them compensated and for them hopefully to be more keen, have more resources, and to have more time to make more music. Perhaps artists should suffer, but maybe they shouldn't have to suffer hugely. ;) It is nice to at least throw a coin or two in some busker's guitar case now and then, and to buy Mick Jagger a coffee (I read he likes Irish coffee, so keep some Irish whisky in a flask when you go out just in case if going the average coffee shop route). It's just a way of us music consumers giving back even if some of them don't need the financial or other types of assistance as much as others. Excuse any silliness.

I'm quite obsessive, so if I discover or re-discover an album that really appeals, then at times I can play it over and over and over again. It's like I want to internalise/ absorb all of it. Then I may not play it for years or ever again.    

After making this poll, I played Godspeed You Black Emperor!'s Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! and was blown away by it all over. Sad I didn't include The Residents, noticed that after posting. Known the band for decades, but I got more into it over the last few years (long loved Eskimo).

I like a good number of these but I ended up voting for Area, Cocteau Twins, Henry Cow and Soft Machine since those hold a more important place in my heart than the other nominees.

For reasons I cannot articulate, my gut went with Can, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Radiohead, Swans, and Van der Graaf Generator.
