As soon as I saw the topic, Guapo's Black Oni sprung to mind (lots of "Black" albums that I love). While the immediate one I thought of is not on the list, I still would have voted for David Bowie's Blackstar. I have made my thoughts on this album and respect for David Bowie with this swansong very clear in other threads already. I think that this is an incredible album to go out on and it actually is my favourite David Bowie album (and I love lots of Bowie). This is one where two stars seems brutally off (ok, one star more-so) and really tacky to me. I give it five black stars. This and Rock Bottom are the two albums I probably most took issue with you disparaging, and that is not just because of the music, but because of the circumstances.

I am not familiar with all of them, but I really enjoy:
Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
David Bowie - Blackstar

AC/DC is a guilty pleasure.
Black Album is a good album overall, but I have always felt that the songs sound a little bit too alike (those who really stick out are "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters").

If we may count albums with black covers, I might add:
The Velvet Underground - White Light / White Heat
and another guilty pleasure: This is Spinal Tap (soundtrack album)

AC/DC, the intro of another great singer and an album that blew car speakers daily....

Must have black in the title? Spinal Tap had a black album. Next choice is KC.

Black Sabbath
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Peter Hammill - A Black Box. Weird, uneven and rough around the edges. Just brilliant.

Followed by AC/DC, King Crimson, Bowie and Amy Winehouse. Black Sabbath's debut has an amazing side one, but side two is just weak imo.

Where's Venom - Black Metal???

I'm looking for black midi, but alas not in the list so my vote goes to King Crimson.

Of course this is about albums not bands. I would not have thought of black midi for a black albums list despite loving the band. black midi does have the compilation The Black Midi Anthology Vol. 1: Tales of Suspense and Revenge, which I have not heard, but I would not have expected that here. Maybe a black bands and artists would be in order. Rebecca Black for the "lose".

Just so you know Metallica's "Black Album" is actually their eponymous album.

The short lived and much missed Astra deserve a vote.

True, but I can't think of anyone who just calls it "Metallica" anymore LOL Same with Weezer's "blue album" debut

Anyway, out of all these, I have to go with Black Sabbath's debut. Such a landmark record for metal, and still holds up extremely well in the songwriting department to boot

I would have put the Black Album in parentheses as the albums org title is Metallica. Just to be nitpick.

You're right of course. In my eagerness the album bit passed me by Geek
