^ @Greg, yes, it's that one. I can see it now (it's the same for all Europeans, I think). It should be track no. 11, right before 'Morphine'. I guess you can't rearrange the playlist with a video that you cannot see. If so, I can make another 'European' playlist, but later today because I'm at work.

^ Thanks, but no need methinks. And I think I have now managed to rearrange it, and make that stick. I know I could have done it by starting the playlist again when coming to add that video, but I was able to reorganise it with a playlist option to show unavailable videos.

By the way, sometimes what works in Europe, and not in the US, works in Canada, and sometime that which works in the US is blocked in Canada and Europe. I have had the most issues with Lorenzo's videos being blocked here, but also with quite a few videos from the US.

Greg, what about publishing exceptionally the entire list of bonus tracks in the OP? The space in the poll slots is quite limited and it will be difficult to put the artist names and song titles of two entries next to each other.- You could inform people about the voting procedure by using the remaining space in the poll table e.g.

I missed this comment before as I was busy preparing my post for the poll at the time, which I guess addressed this anyway if not intentionally I just saw this now. While the bonus section is crowded, I think it should be easy enough to follow for anyone dedicated and attentive enough to be participating in the poll. I do have the master list in order and the videos in the playlist are in order, so not that hard to get it right

Since it is on the last page, and the first, I'll post it here again.

And here is the playlist for just the nominees:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4KUB6zJuKcbVOniE_dMyB6s

I ask that people vote for three songs with three different singers in the the main poll, and please vote for two songs in the bonus poll (if you did not include a bonus option, then voting here is optional). Please specify which songs you voted for in a post.

Here is the list of all the nominees:

Main:

Lewian:
1. Rainbirds - Waltz for Jane (Katharina Franck)
2. FM Einheit w/ Katharina Franck - Educacao

Suitkees
3. High Life Soundtrack - Willow (Stuart Staples)
4. Micatone - Handbrake (featuring Stuart Staples)

I prophesy disaster:
5. Notopia - Connect (feat. Peter Hammill)
6. Saro Cosentino - The Joke (feat. Peter Hammill)

Mila-13:
7. Richard Bona ft. Salif Keïta - Kalabancoro
8. Richard Bona & Alfredo Rodriguez - Raíces/Roots

mathman0806:
9. Heron Oblivion - Oriar (Meg Baird)
10. Espers - Flaming Telepaths (Meg Baird)

jamesbaldwin:
11. Treat Her Right - I Think She Likes Me (Mark Sandman)
12. Morphine - Free Love (Mark Sandman)

omphaloskepsis:
13. Free - Fire and Water (Paul Rogers)
14. Bad Company - Silver, Blue And Gold (Paul Rogers)

Cristi
15. How we Live - All the Time in the World (Steve Hogarth)
16. Steve Hogarth & Richard Barbieri - Red Kite

Logan:
17. Yann Tiersen with Elizabeth Fraser - Kala
18. Cocteau Twins - In the Gold Dust Rush (Elizabeth Fraser)

Baldjean:
19. Frumpy - Take Care of Illusion (Inga Rumpf)
20. Atlantis - It's Getting Better (Inga Rumpf)

21. INTERMISSION (not intended for votes)

Bonus :
22. Lewian: Katharina Franck - Wind Was Playing With My Hair
22. Suitkees: Tindersticks - Frozen (Stuart Staples)
23. Isildurs Bane & Peter Hammill - Before You Know It
23. Mila: Toto Bona Lokua - Ma Mama
24. Mathman: Meg Baird & Mary Lattimore: Damaged Sunset
24. Ompha: The Firm - Midnight Moonlight (Paul Rogers)
25. Cristi: Europeans - Going to Work (Steve Hogarth)
25. Logan: The Future Sound of London (aka FSOL) w/ Elizabeth Fraser - Lifeforms Pt. 4

Making those two songs each, I have (after INTERNMISSION):

22. Katharina Franck - Wind Was Playing With My Hair OR Tindersticks - Frozen (Stuart Staples)
23. Isildurs Bane & Peter Hammill - Before You Know It OR Toto Bona Lokua - Ma Mama
24. Meg Baird & Mary Lattimore - Damaged Sunset OR The Firm - Midnight Moonlight (Paul Rogers)
25. Europeans - Going to Work (Steve Hogarth) OR The Future Sound of London (aka FSOL) w/ Fraser - Lifeforms Pt. 4

The OR can be an AND if those are your two choices from the bonuses. In the poll I used / to sperate and had to shorten, but one can use this for comparison if it proves at all difficult. This is how I put it there.

22. Katharina Franck: Wind Was / Tindersticks: Frozen (S Staples
23. Isildurs Bane & Hammill: Before You../ Toto Bona L.: Ma Mama
24. Baird & Lattimore: Damaged.../ The Firm: Midnight...(Rogers)
25. Europeans: Going to Work (Hogarth)/ FSOL w Fraser: Lifeforms

It's a bit of a squeeze in the bonuses, but I wanted to fit them all in and have an Intermission. I hope it's not too hard for people to follow.

Thanks for all your contributions, y'all, and happy, hopefully, listening. :)

It would be extremely helpful if all musical links were in one post. It would make it much easier to listen to all songs.

Yes, but it doesn't have the links. For those you have to go through all posts in the thread. Having all links in one post would make it a lot easier.

So, getting to the verdict...
This was a very good playlist to listen to; thanks to all! But it is also very hard to come to a decision for the 3 + 2 votes. I won't go through it again though, because it is also a bit time consuming. So, partly the famous toss-up had to do it's work again. Since this poll centers around the singers, I will privilege those tracks in which the singer has somehow a dominant place...

From the main category, my votes could have gone to Mark Sandman/Treat Her Right, Meg Baird and Steve Hogarth with Barbieri (I actually think that Hogarth is one of the great pop/rock singers nowadays and I listened to this album when it came out; I enjoyed it but as a whole album a bit to mellow on the long run), but my votes finally go to (in order of appearance):
- Saro Cosentino - The Joke (feat. Peter Hammill)
- Bad Company - Silver, Blue And Gold (with Paul Rodgers with a "d"; great singer and a very pleasant pop-rock track)
- Yann Tiersen with Elizabeth Fraser - Kala (I have the album this is from, "Les retrouvailles", but that doesn't stop me from voting for it)

And from the bonus section Isildurs Bane stands out, but 1: it is prog, and 2: I already voted for Hammill above. I could also vote for The Firm, but again I already voted for Paul Rodgers above. My votes go to the beautiful singsters (for their beautiful songs, of course):
- Katharina Franck - Wind Was Playing With My Hair
- Meg Baird & Mary Lattimore: Damaged Sunset

A well meant "bravo!" to all. Clap

Not really necessary: if you click on the menu button of the playlist embed to unfold the menu, you have access to all the links you want with just a right click on each video.
And you could also just say "thank you for the playlist" instead of asking someone to do more work for your convenience...

Thanks very much for the votes, and for the comments (again!), Kees. Sometimes I have regretted second-guessing my self, but this time I was really glad I did due to the Yann Tiersen (Yann Tiersen is so great) and FSOL tracks particularly. I had put almost no thought into my original selection.

I'm thinking Friede might mean a link to all that have been mentioned (not just the nominated ones), otherwise I would not see why the playlist option is not a good one.

Friede, I know Kees addressed this, but easy access to all the music nominees and a link to listening to all the nominated are all in one post (on this page, the last page and the first post) with the youtube playlist I created which I have a hyperlink to on youtube and an embed. That said, I also posted all tracks mentioned in this poll in a youtube playlist in the original post that includes a playlist url link as well as an embed which you can use to view and listen to the list. Here they are again...

1. A link to the playlist of all songs posted in this topic:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4JuI7T3Xy9-YhO_YLeg6Sce

An am embed where you can view and shuffle through all songs posted in these pages.

2. A link to the youtube playlist just for the nominated tracks (plus the Intermission).

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4KUB6zJuKcbVOniE_dMyB6s

Since George (Mathman) started doing it, youtube playlist such as those have become the standard for these polls. I find it more convenient to listen to than following individual hyperlinks to each video from the thread (and listing all of those as embeds in one post would be way, way too many for page load).
The advantage of the playlist embed is that it's ad free. Listening to the playlist on youtube is fine for me too as it's ad free for me too there, and even on my phone I can play in background when I set it to desktop site. I pay for a youtube subscription for my eldest, but I admit to using adblock software very often.

EDIT: Forgot to mention if you're not familiar with embedded playlists, if you click on the icon at the upper ight of the video where it says, say for the complete playlist, 1/55, the complete playlist will drop down which you can choose to play and scroll through. I find the functionality very convenient, and it's easy to navigate to the video where you can scrub (move) through the songs for reminding one.

If you or Jean have any problems with those, please let me know and I will try to help. I hope you enjoy your listening.

PS I caught the making youtube playlists bug and if include song playlists to go with polls of mine, and I love listening to those playlists while driving. Here is a direct link to my channel's playlists (not that I would expect those other than me to care). CLICK

Quite a few votes without messages. Kers voted for his five, which means three from the main and two from the bonus (plus being naughty, he voted for Intermission) and we have eight unaccounted votes (one for Rainbirds came even before I added the song options to the poll.

While I am happy for both those who participated in the nomination process and for those who didn't to vote, I ask that before voting you acquaint yourself with the options (listen to the playlist, if you don't listen to every second of every song, fine, whatever), then vote for three songs with different singers in the main, and two tracks from the bonus (it's fine if that shares a singer from the main that you voted for a song by before). Along with the votes, for this interactive series, one is expected to write a post that states what one voted for. I always write vote for in polls, but for to be a more interactive and social experience, it really helps to share your votes and your thoughts/ comments if you have any to go along with it.

And for the contestants, I should think all should know this already as none of us are completely new to this, but one shouldn't vote for one's own.

And remember that each bonus line has two options (see my list in an earlier post if it helps with any confusion due to how crowded those lines got). You can vote for a bonus option twice if it contains your two favourite songs in the bonus section (jean has not been involved with many, so just a reminder).

I wasn't as clear or detailed in the OP as I sometimes have been.

This is one where I really would like to vote for three in the bonus:

My "Main" votes:

1. High Life Soundtrack - Willow (Stuart Staples)
2. Notopia - Connect (feat. Peter Hammill)
3. Espers - Flaming Telepaths (knew it already, but nice to hear is again)

Bonuses:

1. Tindersticks - Frozen (Stuart Staples) Yes I voted for a Staples one in the main and bonus, but this is such a highlight of the poll for me, and one can vote for a bonus singer that got a vote in the main from you. Excellent stuff.
2. Katharina Franck - Wind Was Playing With My Hair (love this)

So one option got two votes from me as they share the 22nd poll option space.

I also had very much wanted to vote for Meg Baird & Mary Lattimore's Damaged Sunset, which I really love too. Anyway, nice that Baird and Franck got votes from me in different sections and I was tempted to change the rules to accommodate three votes in the bonus section., but I like it when it's not that easy and I'd rather have more that I would like to vote for than less.

Thanks to all as it has been a wonderful listening experience and there's much more that I like here.

^ The idea was to vote in the main for three songs with three different singers, and then vote for two bonus selections (regardless of whether you voted for that singer in the main). I don't think I started my first post originally with that, so no big deal, and added that to the message I wrote when I put up the poll as I recall.

I hope Cindy was okay with my selection. Usually, unless specified otherwise, I will go with the original choices.

Just to reiterate the guidelines....

For voting:

1. Listen to the nominated tracks (all are available through the playlist I created). If you did not add bonus tracks, then listening to and voting for the bonus tracks is optional.
2. Vote for three songs with three different singers in the main poll (before Intermission) that are not your own choices.
3. Vote for two songs in the bonus section (after Intermission) regardless of whether you voted for that singer before -- if you have no bonuses in the bonus section, then this is optional.
4. List what you voted for in a post (three from main plus two from bonus). Further comments are appreciated but not necessary

Again, thanks to all.

Since this poll centers around the singers, I will focus on the artists who convinced me most vocally, also through their artistic versatility that is recognisable from the songs chosen. Of course, the compositions themselves were also taken into account. The division into main and side categories were not really significant for me, though,

Therefore my votes will go to (in order of appearance):

Main category
Espers (Meg Baird): Flaming Telepaths
Steve Hogarth & Richard Barbieri: Red Kite
Elizabeth Fraser & Yann Tiersen: Kala

Side category
Katharina Franck: Wind Was Playing With My Hair
The Firm (Paul Rogers): Midnight Moonlight

Thank you for the music everybody and many thanks for hosting, Greg. An interesting theme indeed! Thumbs Up

^ Thanks Mila. Splitting it into a main and bonus category is not really useful when it comes to those who nominate three tracks, but for those who only wished to nominate two tracks I thought it useful, and then also they had the option of only listening to and voting for three form the main, that then has utility. It worked out pretty well, I think. On the other hand, it may be a rather too confusing or too out-of-the ordinary system for some.

If I were to do another tomorrow, and I hope someone else does, I might go back to a simple nominate just one track and have the whole thing last just one week (might help with momentum). Maybe one of the participants of this or the last few who hasn't done one yet would like to try (fun to have some new ideas and new creative approaches).

@Greg, I was just wondering, what is actually going on with the team thread? That used to be sort of a meeting point for the exchange of views and the planning of new Interactive Polls.

^ It died -- not as much interest in these as there used to be and few wish to organise these things. I do enjoy a slightly more spontaneous approach and surprises.   And I do think it better to be more low-key and have these less frequent for a while actually else everyone loses interest. Lorenzo isn't around much, hope he's okay, and some other primary organisers are not visiting the forums much anymore. I'm fine with just discussing such things in the latest Interactive Poll. By the way, Mila, do you post in non Interactive Poll topics at PA? Not expecting it, but unusual to see someone come here and just be involved in such a limited number of kinds of topics. Of course you don't need to, but I would enjoy your presence around the forums more in a wide variety of discussions. Not sure what even brought you to these Prog shores -- many people here are still so mysterious to me (I feel like I know so little about them after years at the forum together).

There is actually not much of a mystery about my participation here. I learned about the interactive polls through Anders who I know from another music forum. I think I mentioned that a couple of times. Prog is not necessarily my main interest and rock music, esp. the older stuff in general but I always enjoy learning something new, outside my comfort zone. As for the other threads on PA, I do take a look at them now and then, esp. in the general music discussions section (which is a sufficient dose of prog for me :P), but there's usually not much interaction going on, as far as I can remember. People mostly just post their music or lists of favourite releases. But there are certainly exceptions, I guess. :)
