Okay, thanks. I'll put the poll up this Monday or Sunday night. Maybe some others will join in on this in the meantime.

I will offer up another vocalist in contrast to Iggy Pop. This vocalist/musician is Meg Baird. She's on PA with the prog-folk band Espers. She's currently the vocalist/drummer for psych-folk rock band Heron Oblivion. She has solo and collaborative releases as well.
I've only peripherally heard of Meg Baird through Espers and I am not too familiar with the prog-folk subgenre. In any case, Heron Oblivion popped up on my Amazon recommendations this week and absolutely loved it. Then found out the singer is Meg Baird whose name I recognized in Espers. Heron Oblivion has one album from 2016. Heron Oblivion - Oriar Then there is this great Blue Öyster Cult cover by Espers. Espers - Flaming Telepaths Bonus track is from a collaboration with harpist Mary Lattimore. They released their album in 2018. Lorenzo, what Treat Her Right song did you post? It doesn't play for me here. I like Sandman with Morphine but had not listened to any of his earlier stuff.

^ Paul Rodgers, nice, I thought of him to. I also thought of David Coverdale (Rodgers was a big influence on Coverdale, David even tries to imitate him on a couple of early ballads).

My second trio is dedicated to Manou Gallo, an Ivorian bassist, singer, and former member of Zap Mama. She's the female equivalent to Richard Bona, so to speak (my first suggestion, on page 2 of this thread).
The 1st track is from her album Afro Groove Queen, 2016. She is here joined by a fellow ex-member of Zap Mama who is also a very successful solo artist. Manou Gallo ft. Sabine Kabongo: Dodo On the 2nd track she appears as a featured artist on the sophomore album of a young and talented Mozambican jazz saxophonist (Ndzuti, 2012). Ivan Mazuze ft. Manou Gallo: Nwana Wa Ku Kasa And finaly the 3rd track is from her latest album Aliso, 2021. Manou Gallo: Lady @Greg, could you please tell me, which of the two artists you prefer, Richard Bona or Manou Gallo? I don't expect you to listen to the whole thing, of course. A brief impression would already be helpful. :) Edited by Mila-13 - May 07 2023 at 01:27 |

First batch of listening (hope to pursue...): Greg: Both Cocteau Twins and Massive Attack never conquered much of my attention. Generally a good listen, as is the case here, but not something I would return to a lot. The third track, by Harold Budd, Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie & Simon Raymonde is the most interesting to my ears. I prophesy disaster: Ow, prog! ;) Never explored much of Isildurs Bane, and it will not become a sudden thing to do, but this is quite an interesting track. The Amorphous Androgynous track is also quite intriguing, bu a bit chaotic (because it is a short condensed verion? I might try to listen to the longer version of it). Christian: Rainbirds start of nicely but I'm loosing a bit of my interest further on. Not uninteresting, but I'm much more intrigued by the FM Einheit track and think that her solo song, Wind Was Playing With My Hair, very beautiful. suitkees: What? Just when you're falling asleep someone rings at the door... Cindy: Good, after my depressing offerings something joyfully uplifting. Very Beach Boys-like selection. It's quite enjoyable, although this is not my preferred genre of music and it won't stick with me for long. George: I'm very familiar with this Goran Bregovic track and enjoy it very much, as I enjoy - but a bit less the track with Sakamoto and his own and famous Candy. But the big stand-out here, to me, is Iggy Pop's duet with Catherine Graindorge, who I discover here and I'm very pleasantly surpised. Wonderful track. Edited by suitkees - May 07 2023 at 06:28 |

Suite... Lorenzo: Giuliano Palma with Casino Royale delivers a nice melodic rock song. I'm not fond of his voice, though, but the music is good. Much better than the hoompa-big-band-mariachi-reggea of Messico e Nuvole, with the Bluebeaters. Really? ;) I prophesy disaster: When I'm in the mood I quite like this album Exposure by Robert Fripp, and Hammill contributes greatly to that appreciation, but Disengage is maybe my least favourite of them all - sounds like a misguided attempt to do some hard rock. I prefer the derailed blues rock of Chicago or the punky VDGG-Crimsony I May Not Have... However, I'm most postitively and pleasantly surprised by both your Notopia and Saro Cosentino suggestions; wonderfully atmospheric and simply great! Greg: Beth Gibbons! Yes, we've seen/heard her before from you, but when it's good, it's good. I like the It's a Fire track - didn't know that one before. The rather subdued-but-building-up track with Rustin Man is also a great listen. The one with Rodrigo Leão is nice too, but not really captivating me and the Gonga one sounds like a cheap pastiche, actually: not bad, but not original enough. Mila: Without knowing, I knew this song of Richard Bona with Salif Keïta; nice, but it is not something that will stay long with me. Same impression with Toto Bona Lokua. From your three suggestions I'm most taken by the song with Alfredo Rodriguez; very beautiful. |

I think you don't just dislike dance music but you are not into light-hearted upbeat music in general.

Sorry for being absent, and not getting back to you, Mila. Been busy so I have been checking in on PA regularly. I am going to wait some more before I put up the poll, maybe a couple of days. Hopefully by then everyone will have their selections sorted and listed and I can focus a little more. And Mila, I liked both of your choices of selections, but might have stuck with Bona myself.
And thanks Kees for the comments on the songs. If anyone has not decided or made their final choices clear (I haven't looked through the thread carefully), please do so very soon. And a third bonus track is appreciated if possible. Edited by Logan - May 08 2023 at 17:35 |

^ Thanks for the feedback, Greg! Good to know that you also have a slight preference for Bona.
As for your own choice, have you edited your post in the meantime? You mentioned earlier that you were a bit torn between your two options. In case you are still interested in a feedback, from my point of view, it doesn't matter so much which of the two vocalists you choose but rather in which way you present them. Given that you have covered Coceau Twins and esp. Portishhead a fair amount already I think that this is a good opportunity to focus on their vocalists as artists in their own right or at least to show their artistic diversity in one way or another. You could still refer to the band they come from in parentheses e.g. or bring the band as a bonus track. Btw. I learned from the previous poll that this concept of multiple entries per participant can be tricky. As the number of participants grows, the number of spots in the poll decreases quickly, even more so if you give people more time to join in.
