Yes, I do prefer the Hogarth era, though I'm a fan of misplaced childhood, buying it when it came out, aged 14. Can't get into clutching at straws, gave it a listen recently, might have to give it some more listens. Really enjoying Gazpacho and Phideaux, IQ also. Many thanks 😊

Season's End saw a notable change of approach towards 'poppier' songs with both Kelly and Rothery dampening down their virtuoso leanings. Fish era Marillion presented 4 very different albums, virtually a re-invention from album to album. It seems a very different band somehow. IMO

IQ easy answer, other Wi, maybe (new) Camel if you want to get into 'oldschool' prog with the most comparable sound. Many small indies after 00's

Steve Hogarth did a very nice ambient album with Richard Barbieri of Porcupine Tree called Not The Weapon but The Hand. That is well worth checking out.

Another collaboration that would be right up your street is Storm Corrosion (Michael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson). Again this is high on atmosphere and not 'heavy'.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I rather liked the Pineapple athiefs Tightly Unwound, and Magnolia. I am now exploring Big Big Train, Gazpacho and Camel. I was aware of the Canterbury scene, but not explored it. I do have another prog related like - Steve Wilsons less heavy stuff, and blackfield.

Not sure about like Hogarth Era Marillion, but like Gabriel Era Genesis I would say Big Big Train, English Electric (Full Power version).

I'm no expert on this style of music, but I recall Collage being called comparable to Marillion and the 90s Moonshine being compared to Hogarth era.
