We're a quarter into 2023 with many great albums already released. What are your top 5 so far? Don't dig or contemplate too much. Save that for the year end.

Mine:

1. Witch Ripper - the Flight After the Fall
2. Plank! - Future of the Sea
3. Atsuko Chiba - Water, It Feels Like It's Growing
4. Siena Root - Revelation
5. Zopp - Dominion
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Solstice would probably be #2 for me but I thought it was 2022?

Three in PA:

Kosmischer Läufer - Volume 5 (Progressive Electronic, Krautrock)
Amoeba Split - Quiet Euphoria (Canterbury Sound)
Zopp - Dominion (Canterbury Sound)

The following two are not in PA, but still relevant I think.

Marlene Ribeiro - Toquei no Sol (Neo-Psychedelia, Ambient Pop, Electroacoustic)
Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World (Indie Rock/ Post Rock)

Most anticipated in PA: Swans - The Beggar (June 23, 2023) and Susanne Sundfør - Blómi (April, 28, 2023).

2. AMOEBA SPLIT Quiet Euphoria
3. MICE ON STILTS I Am Proud of You.
4. DEPOSED KING One Man's Grief

On Sunday night I just did my first radio show of the year featuring music from 2023 releases. Had fun playing double shots from all of the above albums. It's already been a good year!

The Light album is really interesting, never heard anything quite like it.

Also glad I'm not the only one enjoying the Atsuko Chiba.

You're right of course. I have it listed in my 2023 folder for some reason. Apologies.

I feel like it's been an exceptionally strong year already, especially compared to last year. Off the top of my head I'd go for, in no particular order:
  • Oiapok - OisoLün
  • Fistfights with Wolves - The Sheep That Eats The Wolf
  • Light - The Path
  • Rain - Radio Silence
  • Zopp - Dominion
But right on their heels I have:
  • Mike Keneally - The Thing That Knowledge Can’t Eat
  • PoiL Ueda - PoiL Ueda
  • Eyeless Owl - Murmurations
  • Amoeba Split - Quiet Euphoria
That Rain album in particular really needs some more ears on it IMO. To me they come across sort of like the UK's answer to Echolyn - nothing particularly showy on the surface, but there's real depth to the songwriting if you're willing to put the time in with it.
