Oh man Univers Zero and Shub Niggurath are my clear favourites here but I'm feeling in a darker mood tonight with the rain coming down so a vote for the latter. I guess both are fairly dark.LOL

If I’m honest that’s because it’s the only album I know well on this list😂I’m sure I’d love the IQ album but I’ve never heard it….

IT was my first Genesis album and my musical taste was very different in 1986 to what it is now😊

The IQ album is a live one.
I don't think the polls asks us what we were listening in 1986. LOL

There are a few known albums in this poll as well. That's why i found your vote surprising.

seems to be a bit light on 'prog metal' when you consider that Somewhere In Time and Master Of Puppets were released in that year.

Of the choices available I could vote for ELPowell but I'm not a fan of that or Gabriel's So. IQ's Living Proof is a live document including the first 2 albums. It's of interest to fans only. The 2 votes for Invisible Touch just shows how bad this year was really.

Two other important examples of early progressive metal are also missing- Crimson Glory's debut album and Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian. Not famous enough for wikipedia it seems.

Yes, I agree.... I was struggling a bit myself and went for the 'Ryche in the end. It doesn't get much of a listen these days to be fair, but I remember the cassette going round and round in the car in '86 because I thought it was refreshingly different from all the hair metal on offer.

Of the remaining choices, I was never hugely sold on ELPowell nor PG's So. Pallas's Wedge has a distinct 'Nomzamo' 80's feel about it with Ratracing being the standout IIRC, you've described Living Proof very well and the ELO is frankly excruciating...

In the metal scene, you've mentioned the two standout releases of the year (by some way), although Saxon's Innocence was always a bit of fun...

There's some Progressive Metal coming up in 1987's poll by Danish band King Diamond, but only because I'm blindly following Wikipedia's Timeline of Progressive Rock. Embarrassed

I can even recall the excitement around GTR, then...
