IT TAKES TWO!

Hello and welcome to another episode of our Interactive Poll series!

I hope you guys like the chosen topic.

Intro
There is something quite unique about musical duos, depending on the genre someties also called "two-piece bands" or similar. It is this power that comes from the magical interaction between two creative minds! The best duos of all time come in all kinds of musical genres and performing styles. Sometimes a duo is the heart of a larger musical group, and sometimes they are the sole performers.

These are the guidelines:

The focus here should be on the latter, that is duos in the proper sense (not to be confused with an occasional duet), whereby additional musicians may also be present, but in a supporting role, so to speak.- Moreover, it can also be a joint side project of two artists who otherwise have other projects of their own. The main thing is that the two create something new together, even if it is only one album etc.

Feel free to also bring some of your favourite well-known acts. These may participate in a separate category.

For the main category everyone can nominate up to 2 tracks and for the side category 1 each (optional).

Depending on the number of participants you will have 3 or maybe one more vote in the main category and 1 vote in the side category. You cannot vote for your own contributions.

The rough time frame for the poll including the voting will be about one month from now (till late April).

So let's dive in and have some fun! Clap

Nice theme!
I'll probably suggest something else later, because I had these in one of the first interactive polls if I remember correctly, but here's the as far as I can see only video where you can see wonderful Swiss duo Diethelm & Famulari play.

I see Simon and Garfunkel and Eurythmics there, i like these two, thought of them when i read the thread title.

I'll think of some other artists and get back to this.

Nice idea for a poll. Thumbs Up

@Christian, thank you for this Diethelm & Famulari piece, it is really great! I know Thomas Diethelm but I have to admit that I am not familiar with his work in detail since that was largely before my time. I had a look on youtube and found some more recordings of the duo by the way.

I'm glad that you and Cristi joined in! I had quite a few poll topics in mind but they were maybe a bit too specific. In the end I picked something that might appeal to a wider range of people. Let's see!

Also where you can see them play, in the video, I mean?

Thanks Mila! Nice theme.

So, first offering is a duo I suggested before in the movie soundtrack poll, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, with Technically Missing from the Gone Girl soundtrack. They have won a couple of Oscars for their film scores to The Social Network and Soul. In 2016, they released a track to commemorate the Juno space probe arriving at Jupiter with guest "vocals" by the planet Jupiter itself.

Bonus video. It is used in this NASA video, Visions of Harmony: Inspired by NASA's Mission Juno, which takes a look at the interconnectedness of analytic and creative thought.

@Christian
That's true, I haven't found any live videos. By chance I just came across some live footage in the archives of Swiss TV! But unfortunately you have probably no access from abroad. :(

Interesting theme, although it limits quite a bit the scope - or maybe my scope is limited on this question of duos... Will think about it, but nothing springs to mind that I consider original enough and/or interesting enough to my ears and I don't have much time to search for something.

Some prog ones: (I hope I don't get complaints for posting too many; you don't need to listen to all of them of courseTongue). Two legendaru things with Mr. Eno involved, probably fairly well known, and some collaborative projects of Can members around 2000, long after Can had ceased to exist. You need to appreciate electronic music for these, but really, they have done so good and sophisticated stuff long after the work that's in the focus of the prog community, I can hardly stop to play it. Geniuses, all of them.

Brian Eno & David Byrne
Fripp & Eno
Irmin Schmidt & Kumo
Holger Czukay vs. Dr. Walker
Datenverarbeiter vs. Jaki LIebezeit

Keeping up unintentionally with a space theme, second up is The Claypool Lennon Delerium. The duo is Les Claypool of Primus and Sean Lennon, son of John and Yoko. They have two albums and are on PA.

The song is Blood and Rockets: Movement I, Saga of Jack Parsons / Movement II, Too the Moon.

The duo I choose for both of my contributions is Godley & Creme. For my first contribution, I couldn't find a video of only what I wanted, so I had to submit the entire album. But my intention was to submit the following tracks (as a single submission) from Part 1 of Consequences:

1. Seascape
2. Wind
3. Fireworks
4. Stampede

(00:00 - 11:37)

My second contribution is also from Consequences, Part 6, a track called "Blint's Tune (Movements 1-17)":

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I'm confident that you will find something. The topic is actually not too demanding imo. Have another look at the desctipion above and you will see that the topic is leaving considerable room for interpretation. It is not just about longstanding duos. It can also be e.g. a side project of two artists or a new project of an artist who has finished his band career and starts collaborating with new artists, e.g. in the form of a duo.

No need to rush, you have at least two full weekends. Get inspired by suggestions of other participants and maybe also by previous polls. Editions 30 and 48 are about collaborations, the latter with family members.

Yes, but the release isn't really important, so any version will do.

It might get a little tricky with your first contribution since we use playlists. People may not understand your intention. I could include the info in the playlist description but it is not very liekely that people will pay attention. Anyway, I think it would be interesting to have two different acts or at least tracks from two different albums. If people like what they hear they will find the album. Smile

You're right, Mila, it was enough to take a better look at my collection... So here it goes.

First the American Seymour twin brothers Mark and Clark with their Mark & Clark Band. It seems like they are the typical one-hit-wonder, but only in the Netherlands: There's only a Dutch wikipedia page dedicated to this band, although this song also has its English page. So I discovered this track long ago thanks to Dutch radio, and when I stumbled upon a 2nd hand LP of their album - long ago - I bought it blindly for this song (it was cheap, and still in Dutch guilders!). The rest of the album is nothing special, but I still very much like this wonderful song. Mark and Clark both on grand piano and vocals, and with a bunch of other musicians...

The Mark & Clark Band - Worn Down Piano:

And now for something completely different... Nils Frahm is known for his many collaborations and this one is maybe the one I like most. And, Christian, if you don't have this album yet. go for it! And this time, no other musicians involved.

Nils Frahm & Anne Müller - Because This Must Be / Augmentation:
