The last season of Servant I found quite disappointing. No real explanation as to what was going on - a shame really as elements were very well done.
Just finished the second, and final, series of Carnival Row. It's not as good as the first series and it seemed a bit rushed to a conclusion. Nevertheless, still an enjoyable ride. 7/10 this season, 8/10 overall.

Shrinking Season 1
Comedy drama from the producers of Ted Lasso starring Jason Siegel and Harrison Ford. I totally warmed to this and would make the perhaps bold claim that it has the best characters in a TV comedy since Schitt's Creak. Of course it would love to be as good as that and honestly it's not far off being at times equally funny as it is touching. Looking forward to future seasons. 8.5/10

Star Trek Discovery Season 4
As much as I like the characters, I found this particular story desperately underwhelming, failing to generate enough tension or intrigue as well as lacking any real emotional impact. Apparently a final season is planned for early 2024. Hopefully the writers will come up with a decent finale. 6/10

Wolf Pack 2023
Back to the old werewolf mythology for this Paramount+ drama. Must admit I had very low expectations and was expecting another high school angsty thing. Thankfully it does have some serious horror moments and the very likeable Sarah Michelle Geller returning after a long absence ( I assume this only because I don't remember anything else she's done in a while). It's solid and worth a watch and now seems nicely set up for a further season. 7/10

Project Blue Book - USA/Canada - (2019-2020: 2 Seasons / 20 Episodes)
Peradventure the optimal show for the lovers of The X-Files. Cancelled after the 2nd season. Well, not too dismaying as it was hinted that a further season would be rather an SFX show instead of a drama/mystery. A fairly decent series that is engaging from start to finish. I'm not amazed or so, but having fun while learning something is good. Whilst, I have to say that I've watched this series sceptically as per usual, by reason of the fact that the happenings depicted there are said to be based on true events. Most of them were feasible, mind you, howbeit I always take such things with a pinch of salt. 7.5/10 |

Just started watching The Offer. It's about the making of The Godfather from the perspective of the producer Alan Ruddy (played by Miles Teller). Only watched 2 episodes so far but it's absolutely fascinating. I never knew that Frank Sinatra used his Mafia connections to try and try to get the production shut down before it was even cast. This was due to his personal beef with the writer Mario Puzo who had previously written a book about a degenerate singer and Sinatra believed it was about him! Can't wait for further episodes.

I've just finished watching Season 2 of Waterloo Road - a series based on a tough comprehensive school in Rochdale, northern England. I'm not saying the school is rough but, there's fighting between the teachers and parents in the playground, the kids get detention for manslaughter and they have to kill more than five people before they get expelled.

^ I think that's it for Servant although I guess there could be a spin off exploring the existence of the strange cult and what it does. That seemed to be suggested by the last episode.
Carnival Row is absolutely brilliant, I watched episodes 5 and 6 of Season 2 yesterday and it keeps getting better. Can't praise it high enough especially for a fantasy based show. The Last Of Us is a superb show for sure.

^ I'm looking forward to the next series of Servant, great show. It's between that and the second series of Carnival Row as what to watch next.
Currently watching The Last of Us - Simply brilliant. Easily a 10/10.

Servant Season 4
I think this got better through the series. So is she the devil or isn't she?! Well it didn't quite clarify that in the end so you are left to make your own mind up. A nice ride for horror fanatics.8/10

^Thanks, it's my next show top watch as the final episode has now aired (I rarely start a show until all eps are out). However, my TV viewing has been stymied somewhat as my wife has started series 10 of Married at First Site Australia - which runs for 30 odd one hour episodes. Geez, it's painful to watch.

The Last Of Us 2023 9 episodes
Post apocalypse drama based on a popular video game. Very impressed with this and enjoyed it immensely. My only reservation -its exactly the same set up as The Mandalorian and even the same lead actor Pedro Pascal. Basically about 2 characters , one old and one young, who become tied together in trying to save the world (or Universe in the case of the Mandalorian). It is such a weird coincidence to not only have the same idea but then cast exactly the same actor! Still good though. 9/10

I'm enjoying Shrinking a lot, from the producers of Ted Lasso (returning this Wednesday) it has many of the same ingredients with likeable characters stumbling along trying to get through the day. Nice cameo from AHS's Lily Rabe as the daughter of Harrison Ford's very grumpy 'old man'. Think there are still 2 episodes to come so will be interesting to compare with Ted Lasso as they overlap.

I deserve a medal for completing series 2 of La Brea (I doubt many others have achieved such an amazing feat). It's truly appalling 1/10.
Anyway to cleanse my brain I started watching Guillermo Del Toros Cabinet of Curiosities and managed the first 4 eps last night. I love these type of short horror stories and each one had its merits. Hopefully the rest are as good.

Meet The Chippendales
For what is such an unbelievable story (you literally cannot make this sh*t up) perhaps not as interesting as it might have been. Steve Banajee is obviously a very interesting character but it didn't truly come out here. At the end of the day a bit of a miss. 5/10

Reminds me that I haven't yet reviewed Unforgotten 2023. Love the actress that replaces Nicola Walker ( Sinead Keenan) and the new dynamic with Sanjeev Bhaskar's much loved character. Perhaps a shade predictable at time but immensely enjoyable nevertheless. 8/10

I'm watching all 7 seasons of Adam-12. It's a show I haven't seen since I was a kid and I'm enjoying it immensely.
It's quite remarkable how much cop shows have changed since then and not necessarily in a good way but I could say that about a lot of TV these days. |
