ProJect make some really nice phono preamps. They have both SS and tube, I think either would be excellent for you. Depending on budget you might stick to SS.... https://www.project-audio.com/en/hifi-electronics/ click phono preamplifier. |

^Good call, that's one of the brands I've been looking at. The Tube Box S2 specifically.

It would be of course good to check the hum with another preamp to be sure it's a preamp problem.

I also have to check my cables from the TT to the Pre-amp first, unfortunately the NAD's RCA's from the pre to the main are short and hard wired so it limits where I can place it. that might also account for some of the noise.

Have any vinylphile here noticed the LP thread in this General Music Discussions section?

Remove the ground wire from either the NAD or the turntable and see if that removes the hum, it could be a ground loop hum. If both are connected, which they usually are, leave only one connected see if that helps. Also check the cartridge wires to make sure they are not loose.

Not sure what you mean? Is there another thread about LPs? I l know there have been several from way back in the day like when I first joined in 2009, even before then when I was just a lurker in 2007 there were some threads on LPs/vinyl... This one is the longest active thread, part of the reason it was started was due to conversations about digital vs analog and especially ones that I was having with Dean, who is long gone now retired from PA. He was a electrical engineer and stood his ground on digital being supreme, for the most part I agree but he could not admit that vinyl for the most part sounded better than digital/CDs. I stopped replying to his posts, towards the end he kinda "warmed" up to vinyl thread... |

I know I still have some troubleshooting to do. My biggest issue (procrastination aside) is access to all the connections that are buried in an inaccessible cabinet. I should probably just get my power saw out and cut the back wide open !

No way for that price!!! . I have an OG pressing that sounds amazing!!!! Sure has a few noises here and there but the soundstage and details are excellent. I bought this probably 30yrs ago. Mine is a George Piros/PORKY pressing -AAA/-AAA. Here is the same entry I have for boat load less $$ . I would ask the seller to verify the runout groove info before buying...

I had too many vendors to go through in a very short time. Forgive my regression.

I have an OG pressing of Fragile that I got for 10 dollars at the record store. The cover is not in the greatest condition, but the vinyl is VG+. You don't need to spend that much on it.

It's surely an insane price for that MFSL release, and that kind of heavy weight "maxi singles" ain't my cup of tea at all. |

I could but don't have time to curate a list of my originals.......plus as you see that thread now involves Pedro who will krapp all over anyone's list. I have so many original LPs as well in many cases I have duplicates of newer reissues. I have said before I lost many many LPs in a couple of house moves, all of course original releases, I am still trying to replace many of them but finding OG copies in VG++/NM is almost impossible unless I bust out the gold American Express card...aint gonna happen!! LOL

Correct.....I missed out on that MFSL issue, I think it was only $99 on release. I didn't buy due to the price and the OG version I have. You can also look for the Steven Wilson remix, but not sure it is available on it's own or only in the box set. One thing to be careful is the recording is a bit hot in some areas, so you could encounter sibilance issues....I'd still just look for a VG++/NM original.
