Hey JD! Action was a reissue in 1980 on Brain label. I got into the Scorps in late 70's with Lovedrive. Blown away then started to buy the back catalog. Reading in the music mags as a teen, read that Lonesome Crow was the first, but I could not find it. Action is the same album, same tracks different cover is all. I don't own the original cover of Lonesome Crow, the inside of the gatefold is meh with the dude laying out.....LOL.

Lonesome Crow as you heard is very psychy, funky, a bit of jazzy too, there is some rock with nice guitar work by Michael at the tender age of 15-16 I believe, after this album UFO stole him away.

The rest of their early albums really stick to a psych vibe with more and more rock adding in but none come close to LC. Fly To the Rainbow is easily one of my favs and In Trance is probably my fav. Go in order till you hit Taken By Force and the track Sails of Charon pretty much ends their psychy trip, then they become more mainstream metal/hard rock.......This is when Uli left.

The Scorpions catalog is extremely interesting, it specifically details the growth and different changes the band went thru starting in 1970 to today. The new album Rock Believer, which I hate that title but I get the German boyz message of it...still it suxs LOL, has some tracks that harken back to the 70s and even Animal Magnetism.

The catalog is so varied that you can stick to one era and love it, but to fully appreciate all they have done you need to know the whole thing.
For example, I could listen to the first 2-3 Aerosmith records and have no need to listen to anymore as I got it!

But MSchenker would never have been a prog guitarist, he was not like Uli Roth. UFO fit him very well and he wrote amazing songs with UFO that better fit his style of playing. He became massive in the hard rock world with UFO, instantly........

MSchenker’s playing on Lonesome Crow and the overall hard psych feel reminds me a bit of the first Black Sabbath album, but jazzier. Albums 2-5 plus a double live album are the U Roth era, which develop both the RSchenker classic riff-rock style and the U Roth Hendrixian approach. I’ve loved all that stuff since my teens.

Of the post-Roth band, Lovedrive thru Sting are all quite good too, but most of the stuff after that was a turnoff. The most recent reunion albums are pretty good I suppose.

Totally agree, I'm a Scorps fan top to bottom, but I don't play much of the newer era albums. 
Savage Amusement = nope
Crazy World = Very good
Face the Heat = very good
Pure Instinct = nope
Eye to Eye = nope
Humanity Hour 1 = pretty good
Sting in the Tail = nope
Return to Forever = nope
Rock Believer = pretty good

All the live albums are excellent, especially Tokyo Tapes and World Wide Live....

Another album, which reminds me of Lonesome Crow and I'm very fond of too, is Steel Mill's Green Eyed God - also from 1972 
but even more psychedelic, without though such great guitar playing as on Lonesome Crow - but some very nice flute.

In the early 70s there are a TON of psych sounding records.......But I doubt you see any of these kinds of records made today.

Well I finally had to retire my Hitachi PS-12 TT over the weekend.About a month ago a started hearing a low freq thump. The first time I heard it I thought it was just a bad album. But after hearing a few other LP's that have soft passages as well as clean in-betweens I think the spindle bearing has a flat spot.

Thankfully I have a backup Sansui SR-222 that I picked up at the Op-Shop for $10. It looked mint, not even a microscope scratch on the dust cover. It did have the Audio Technica red cartridge on it. Luckily both TT's use the same bayonet mount head stock so it was a quick change out to my original Shure ME97HE, and I'm back in business.

My only complaint...the Hitachi was a Semi Automatic TT and the Sansui is a fully manual. Now I actually have to get off my @ss to lift the tonearm at the end of an album, and don't even get me started on late night listening and falling asleep on the couch. Wink

Get a Q-Up, pretty inexpensive and will save your cartridge.....

I use this one from Integrity HiFi in Canadaland....More spendy but I wanted a metal one and I needed the different extenders for platter heights.

Between $60 - $90 (I'm guessing US) so at least $100 for me even with shipping.
I'll put it towards getting the PS-12 repaired instead I think.

Maybe as a bit of comfort I'd say, ass moving ain't that bad Big smile - even I can see the problem with late night listening,

Some of these are ridiculous, especially all the Fab Four ones. They are reported sales, especially the 0001 album sold by Ringo. I never heard it went for $790K. and I've seen the cover with the babies go for much much less....
People like Jack White do own a bunch of rare records so that Elvis makes sense, I'm sure he has more. The Prince Black album is very valuable if you can find one of the originals!!! There is one on Discogs for $40K if you wanna buy that LOL.
There is a ton of subjectivity in why you would want to own that Prince album, I'm not convinced the provenance is enough to spend say $20K for it.

That's not my jam.......what is cool is that the CD will never have such a value. My most valuable CD is Styx-Paradise Theater Japanese OG pressing goes for $50-$75. After that CDs have a steep dive to about one dollar LOL
