I found this interesting and I’d like to hear the vinyl community’s thoughts on this.

I have zero issue with records cut from DSD. This is what MoFi has admitted to doing for the past 10-12yrs but never told anyone. LOL Everyone still thought they were cutting from the original master tapes, which they advertised.
I respect what Paul is saying but there are video interviews of Bernie Grundman who will state otherwise, that cutting from the master tapes is the closest you will get to what the musician wanted you to hear. Remember that for DSD to vinyl there has to be conversion from digital to analog, any conversion has the chance of adding noise as well loosing data. You cannot do any mastering (EQing, compression, none of that) in the DSD domain, why?? DSD by definition is 1-bit, mathematically it does not work, you can't change 1 if only 1 exists. Paul talks about this in other videos, so that DSD file needs to be converted to PCM for any mastering to happen, then back to DSD or to a 24bit file or redbook.....A lot of conversions happening. I trust Bernie's ears light years more than Paul's, Bernie has been mastering and cutting records for 50years......Paul has 1yr of recording experience with Octave. Again, mad respect for Paul but for different reasons and products.
But again, I have no issues with records cut from digital files, problem is with the bad engineers you get tons of compression and sucks the life out. The engineers that know what they are doing the records sound great!
But given the choice, 100% analog for me is preferred....YMMV

Absolutely. DSD or D0P (packets of data ) must be converted to PCM for sound editing. To my understanding as well. Even when a vinyl gets ripped onto a standard cd about 3 to 4 DB of noise is in that transfer.
Now some may say that you don’t need to care about stuff like that because it is inaudible, but I disagree. It matters.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

A great thread at Hoffman Forums........Steve Hoffman discussing the mastering process for records, how he cut records and some of the process he focuses on. Albums I have by Steve Hoffman are fantastic, specifically Fleetwood Mac Rumours, he and Kevin Gray did an amazing job on that one.

Enjoy

Man I have always loved this record, still do. After I heard Lovedrive in late 70s I started buying all the back catalog. At the time in Tower Records import section I could never find Lonesome Crow, this one came out in 1980 on Brain.......It's a great pressing, extremely dynamic, after all these years still plays easily NM++

Bust out the hookah smoke a bowl and spin this.....LOL

Whoa, haven’t seen that cover before! You’ve just inspired me to spin my own copy of Lonesome Crow - another 80s reissue, this one on the Heavy Metal Worldwide label UK.

I have to admit to not really knowing much of the Scorpions music, other than No One Like You.
But if José is listening to it then I better pay attention. So I just finished listening to the whole album and really enjoyed it. Reminded me a little of the Grand Funk era of heavy rock.

What other titles have this feel that you would recommend?

I like Lonesome Crow very much, but it's the only one of Scorpions' I'd recommend. Smile

But another German album which reminds me of Lonesome Crow, and also from 1972, is Electric Sandwich's
selftitled debut album.

Oh the Scorpions are worth exploring. You see. I loved early UFO, so Michael Schenker on guitar? Count me in. And holy sh*t can Klaus sing!!

I have both Love at First Sting & Savage Amusement on LP, but I got them in an auction with a bunch of other albums I wanted and have never really given them a listen. They are in mint condition so I guess I'll have to dig in.
