Speaking of which. How many of you fine music-heads on here will be buying the new Riverside album?

I know I will. Riverside is releasing a blu ray edition in ATMOS surround. I’m not passing that up.
I just got my preorder from LasersEdge, hoping to spin it tonight/tomorrow. I was not liking the release Friend or Foe, too poppy sounding very 80s with the synth, it does sound like Ah-ha LOL. I do want them to go back to SLS and Rapid Eye Movement sounds, these extreme changes are not sitting well with me.
It seems like they are trying to copy what Steven Wilson did with HCE and TFB......

I got my version 3 days before it was released. Quite like this record already. Thumbs Up

That part of your post sounds very good to me. Big smile

Something else, for the sake of environment, the heavy vinyl should be skipped. It has in fact many disadvantages, and I really don't understand why the record companies keep on with it.
With my more than 30 years experience as vinyl audiophile, I'd say that the sonic advantages of heavy vinyl are very small, and if any, the only people that can hear them are those with very good hearing, and only with very high quality systems.
Besides that, I find the heavy vinyl too clumsy and not cool at all. The middle weight, 120-150g, is much cooler and if record companies want with their reissues of pre-modern albums compete well with the originals and early reissues, they should stick to that format. Star

You make a solid point resource wise for the environment, but the 180g to 230g vinyl can be really handy because on the dampening characteristics it can have even for the most modest turntables.
Also. Having a 45RPM vinyl on say 230g will last way longer.

I say screw the the environment. Audiophiles come first.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Oh that is so exciting. I think it is gonna be a great album. The first 2 singles I enjoyed.

Glad you support lasers edge as well. I try to limit myself buying music off Amazon. I mostly do cd Japan or discogs now. Amazon is such a monopoly. Lol.

Also I watched an interview M. Duda and he says it is an album you can wake up to first thing in the morning to start your day or have a coffee and sit back.
Duda said in the past most Riverside albums are more introspective and reflective and are best listened to at night. :)

I’m definitely more excited to get the new Riverside over the new Metallica album. And it is so great that riverside release there first blu ray Atmos mix on a studio album. That is a big plus for diversity sake.

Now that inflation is a serious you-know-what, I lean towards buying more high resolution CDs like blu/spec, UQCD , SACD and Blu ray audio. I get a lot out of these formats and they work very well with my equipment. More bang for the buck. Quality over quantity.

At the present time, the CD-medium has surely some advantages. A "triple" album is more than half a kilo of plastic,
and if I had to buy them on vinyl, I wouldn't even listen to them. Ermm
The last 10 years, I've become much more fond of my programmable CD-player with tubes (Tube Technology Fusion),
and 70-80% of all the CDs I've got are in fact from that period, even I bought my (first and only) CD-player 22 years ago.

In the '70s, I had an Akai cassette deck as well, but it was a top-loaded and lower priced model.

But the sound quality of cassette decks is of course not so good when compared to TTs.

I don't buy any music from Amazon, I've seen videos on how they pack, sometimes just in a bag!! Nutz......
I buy new records from Tower Records, The InGroove and LasersEdge mainly. Walmart on occasion since their prices are dirt cheap...Used online I only buy from Discogs sellers.

I spun the record last night and I do like it, really like side D the two instrumental extras. Landmine Blast and Big Tech Brother and Age Of Anger are excellent. The album is an easy listen......Sound quality wise it's very good, the recording/mix is very good as is usual with Magda and Robert Srzedniccy they do great work.

I just got a message from Discogs saying they are retiring VinylHub.
Does that mean we won't be able to buy through them anymore?

VinylHub is on the app, I think it is just a map of stores in all countries. I use it when I travel, find record stores....that suxs if true I've not seen any email/msg.

^Whew, didn't have time to dig deeper so, thanks for the clarification. Thumbs Up
I don't use the app for anything. But I do have a number of LP's I'm currently considering buying.
Mostly on my phone I search cat#'s for release info.

I use the app when in stores cause sometimes I can't remember if I have an album or not, so I'll check my collection. As well I will look up a particular version to see what people say about its quality.
For new records I will scan the barcode and read what people say regarding sound quality.

Pretty handy for me...

Discogs is exceptionel good to look for release informations and as a buying place. I've bought a lot there the last 12 years, but in the recent years, I noticed some more overgrading.

Most of it is over graded, I only look for NM copies and I expect VG+ to arrive. But I also offer much lower prices than they ask, it's rare I pay what they want. If they don't take my offer normally I walk.....
I have bought M sealed as well.

Clap Love it. The motorized buttons on my Pioneer never malfunctioned, either.

About the vinyl formats, I think some European companies are away from the heavy vinyl. Tongue

Excellent to hear. Yeah Robert and Magda record really clean. Nice to hear they haven’t submitted to sh*tty industry trends.

I really hope to have the album by the weekend.
Talk with you soon about it once I get a serious listen in. :)

Ok, I'm officially old. I just e-mail myself my excel workbook and I have all the details of my collection I need, including what I paid for used LP's, rough average replacement value, media and jacket condition, cuts/drills/punches, inserts. Just 5 years ago I used to carry a paper copy when I went shopping. LOL
