Well today’s domestic duties were done, a trip to a local garden centre and tea, biscuits and cake in the cafe. My copy of Citizens Of Hope And Glory The Story Of Progressive Rock (Stephen Lambe) arrived today. I also watched two episodes of Secret Nazis Bases and now going to watch The Mummy (1999) then it’s.

Well it’s Saturday morning so drinking coffee and researching Japanese Psychedelic/Space Rock & Ambient Music and. I’ve found a few gems that went under my radar and some newer musicians that have some incredibly interesting music going on. I’ve only been able to find them on YouTube and Spotify so far but I haven’t looked on Bandcamp yet, so they’re maybe on there also. I’ve no idea what or. If there’s any particular plans. To do anything with the rest of the day except for chilling out lol. I may read the new book. But other than that. I’m unsure what is going down with the day. Could ended up being an extremely boring day eeks! I’m hoping that isn’t the case lol extremely lol. I’m starting to spout gibberish so. I’d better sign off for now…

The more that, I think about there most be more intelligent beings in an alternate universe, because the so called intelligent species on this planet are mostly members of a political party, scientists with bizarre theories or the conspiracy theorists. It seems that we need to provide ourselves with the resources to scientifically explore the possibility of intelligent life in the solar systems, which can explain the evolution of mankind as Darwin’s theory which suggests we. Evolved from apes. Possibly isn’t correct as. Apes do have intelligence and aren’t destroying the environment. We are. The climate change crisis is real just look at the weather that’s happening across the globe and it’s happening right now. Plus with additional issues like the garbage disposal into our oceans is destroying the wildlife habitat, it really doesn’t seem that there’s anyone else who seems to care about these issues to me. I feel like the only one who’s alone in the wilderness. I really know that there’s other persons who think and what actions in place to help protect our environment and the inhabitants of our wildlife. It’s just that I’ve not spoken to anyone else who seems to care in a long time so it doesn’t seem that there’s other individuals out there…

I’m slightly slipping back into not listening to music which is totally unacceptable in my opinion, and anyone who knows me would tell you that, it’s totally out of character for me. Not listening to any music. Mind you I’ve been feeling my age for the last few days. As my diabetes has continued causing my hands and feet to be aching, cold because of poor circulation, so I’m going to make an appointment to see the diabetic nurse tomorrow morning. As it’s causing me major issues within my everyday life. Especially walking and keeping my hands and feet warm. As I’ve had to start wearing gloves and two pairs of socks indoors lol. Just to help reduce symptoms since Friday evening…

The third thing that has been cultivating my mind lately is the historical significance facts about. Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian. Inculcating the mythical creatures. Plus the fact of when the. Dinosaurs walked the earth which is also an important factor in my life’s been fascinated with dinosaurs since childhood. That’s probably why. I’ve to many interests, hobbies and too little time to indulge myself in them all. Especially when you added the factor in about the importance of Vinyl, Cds into the equation which some have said it’s an obvious obsession with me. But I’m not having any of that me obviously not obsessed with Vinyl and Cds don’t make me laugh. Mind you I’m in need of some new shelves and racks for the vinyl and cds lol. Look my name is geekfreak and I’m a music freak lol…

Oh well it’s mmm think about it oh Sunday morning phew the weekend is coming to an end lol…

website   Robert Reed biography Born in Ferndale, Wales, UK in 1968 Robert Reed needs little introduction, a talented multi-instrumentalist that has been creating delightful prog music since his early days with CYAN as well as the THE FYREWORKS, then forming the brilliant and still strong MAGENTA, as well as the recent KOMPENDIUM project featuring a busload of prog superstars (HACKETT, HARRISON, DONOCKLEY, DUNNERY, BEGGS, COLLINS, BARRETT, JAKSZYK, MITCHELL among many others). A thorough multi-instrumentalist on both guitars, bass and a vast variety of keyboards, as well as adept on percussion when needed, REED is also a composer and producer of high repute. So when he considered the solo album option and figuring out that a true solo album is when you do everything yourself, Reed had the challenge of saluting one of his heroes, the mighty and legendary Mike OLDFIELD (also still going strong what with his recent "Man on the Rocks" release). "Sanctuary" is his first solo album and as such, he plays each and every instrument with obvious glee and mastery, fueled by the Tubular Bell inspiration.

The biography is thanks to Prog Archives. Com

website   Magenta biography Formed in Cardiff, Wales, UK in 2001 Most of the old progheads miss the 70's when Prog' reached the peak, atmospheric guitars, wonderful keyboard solos and beautiful symphonic arrangements where things from the past until this great band released "Revolutions". MAGENTA was born in the year 2001 as a one album project, Robert REED (a talented keyboardist and composer who had worked on several good prog bands like FYREWORKS, CYAN and TRIPPA) decided to join Christina Murphy (Now Christina Booth), an incredible vocalist that has a bit of Stevie Nicks with the brilliance of Annie Haslam plus of course her personal and unique style and release "Revolutions", a double conceptual album about the moments that changed humanity (small revolutions). For that purpose they decided to hire some session musicians for the recordings. But the project was too big for that, and fans started to ask for live concerts, so they change the plans and form a permanent band, with Tim Robinson (Percussion) who with the other members Chris Fry (guitar), Martin Rossen (guitar) and Matthew Cohen (bass) form the almost definitive lineup. Their debut album "Revolutions" blends the spirit of the 70 Symphonic bands with the perfect production of the XXI Century, is easy to find references of YES, GENESIS and even Mike OLDFIELD, a very ambitious project that satisfied the exigent British critics. They announced their next album "Seven" and the fans kept waiting for almost three years before it was released, After recording "Seven", Tim Robinson left the band so a MAGENTA fan and very competent drummer Alan Mason-Jones joins MAGENTA.   In 2004 when this conceptual album about the Seven Capital Sins is released, less symphonic than the previous but with the energy of Neo Prog bands like PENDRAGON and MARILLION (FISH-era) the long waiting period was worth, MAGENTA shows a more mature sound and for the joy of old progheads the influence of the 70's heroes is still clear. The last change in the lineup comes, Tim Robinson leaves MAGENTA and Alan Mason-Jones, a drummer who was already a MAGENTA fan joins the band in time to release the Single "Broken". This CD presents four other themes including the wonderful Church Organ solo "Opus III" by Rob Reed and the power ballad "Call Me". This short album shows a more mature band that has a clear and unique sound, even when there are some references to classic prog' bands.

website   Karda Estra biography Founded in Swindon, UK in 1998 The older I get, the more easily I'm surprised with new bands, KARDA ESTRA is an very competent group of British musicians who from from the late 90's to the date, create music that combines the dark spirit of the Eastern Europe ethnic sound (present in the use of Bazouki and Rastrophone) with the skills of the most pristine Symphonic Prog you can imagine expressed in complex and well developed orchestral arrangements that create an atmosphere of mystery and obscurity enhanced by the haunting chorals. KARDA ESTRA is the brainchild of the multi instrumentalist and composer RICHARD WILEMAN who is obviously obsessed with the 1800's Gothic Revival and created this Neo Classical - Progressive project to exploit that dark mood that most Progressive Rock followers love so much. Their main inspiration is so wide that goes from Romanian music from the Carpathian Mountains to Steve Hackett with who he shares that obsession for obscurity. Since their debut, KARDA ESTRA constant members are Richard Willeman (classical, electric and bass guitars, keyboards, percussion, bouzouki, rastrophone and other exotic instruments), the weird and sometimes scary voice of Illesha Bailey, Rachel Larkins (viola, violin) and Zoe King (flute, alto saxophone and oboe) but always has counted with other excellent musicians to complete the band like Caron Hansford who plays oboe, cor anglais and bassoon, a luxury team. The main theme in his albums is terror and reaches it's peak with "Eve" based in The Future Eve, written in 1886 by Villiers de L'Isle Adam about a scientist who creates a fiancée for his fiend Lord Ewald (2001) and Voivode Dracula of course based in the novel by Bram Stocker. Didn't had the chance to listen their latest album "The Age Of Science And Enlightenment" released a few months ago but it's one of the first thing I'm going to do in the next few days. Symphonic nuts will love this band.

website   Antony Kalugin biography ANTONY KALUGIN is a multi-talented musician and composer from Ukraine who initially began creating music as a new age artist back in 2003, but would eventually begin writing progressive rock under Caerllysi Music in 2008. ANTONY KALUGIN is widely known as the brainchild behind projects such as KARFAGEN, SUNCHILD, HOGGWASH, and AKKO.   At this point, ANTONY KALUGIN is the only person to have participated on his solo albums. He has played every instrument and wrote every song, making this a totally solo project. ANTONY KALUGIN'S debut solo album officially was The Water released in 2008. This album had mixed reviews on the time of its release and shows his transition from new age to progressive rock. After this debut, ANTONY KALUGIN would not write any new solo albums for quite some time. Instead focusing on writing music for his other projects. However, every once in awhile he would release a short EP displaying some music that he had been writing that wouldn't fix the normal criteria of the projects he was in.   In 2020, ANTONY KALUGIN began writing new material for a solo album called Marshmallow Moondust planned for a release on 10/10/20. From the samples given so far, this album has more in common with his work on KARFAGEN then any of the solo albums that were released in the past. This is Symphonic Prog in it's purest form. ANTONY KALUGIN'S early solo work can be described as a mix of PETER GABRIEL with some early elements of PINK FLOYD. However, ANTONY KALUGIN'S newest album leans closer to CAMEL and YES. I would recommend checking out ANTONY KALUGIN'S solo work if you are a fan of any of his projects listed above.

The biography is thanks to Prog Archives. Com

website   Hoggwash biography HOGGWASH was created to bring this style of music to the listener. In the capable hands of the talented Antony Kalugin (Ukraine) of KARFAGEN fame, Will Mackie (Wales) was able to collaborate on this, the first of many exciting musical projects together using many other superb musicians to complete our task. "The Last Horizon" is the first part of a story, which at present already has the next part ready to tell. The music is true to great bands from CAMEL, GENESIS, FOCUS, SAGA, PINK FLOYD to URIAH HEEP and all bands that played proper music. Not a copy, it's merely a starting point. Enjoy the music. LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN!

Matt Baber (Sanguine Hum) and Richard Wileman (Karda Estra) release a new collaboration album on Kavus Torabi's Believers Roast label on Monday 10th January 2022 on CD and digital.   Richard met Matt at Roastfest in 2011 where Sanguine Hum were performing and soon afterwards they did their first collboration track Mondo Profondo 1 which appeared on the Karda Estra album Mondo Profondo.   They began collaborating again at the end of 2020. It was initially meant to be one or two tracks but the sessions went so well, they continued co-composing through 2021 and the project evolved into an album. Richard's long time collaborator Amy Fry (vocals / clarinet) also makes guest appearences on three tracks.

Not All Those Who Wander are Lost A Celtic Progressive Symphonic concept album that will transport you to the world inspired by the Lord of the Rings books by Tolkien.   It features fiery lead guitar playing, a progressive rhythm section, a real 100 piece choir, ethereal vocal textures, real strings, brass and uilleann pipes and irish whistles.   It starts at the Creation of Middle Earth and 14 tracks later it finishes with the voyage of Frodo to the Undying lands.   For more info on the album visit Davebrons.com   Note: This album is not endorsed in anyway by the Tolkien estate.

The third album of Major Parkinson shows a band that has matured significantly. The work has been named Twilight Cinema and is mixed by legendary Yngve Saethre in Duper Studio. The whole thing has been a dark, uncompromising and ambitious journey through a dense forest of melodies, closely accompanied by a black river of doom poetry. Twilight Cinema is a darker version of Major Parkinson than the one we know from previous releases, without having gone beyond the band's character. The classic Parkinson-like melodies have now found their place in a far tighter directed and more electronic sound. Artwork by Martin Kvamme

This is the 3rd album from The Tirith and comprises 7 tracks.   1) Return of the Lydia 2) Dying to Live 3) My People 4) Go the Drifter 5) Crystalwell 6) The Uncertainty Principle 7) The Meeting of the Ways   As usual The Tirith cover many bases within the Prog Rock genre, from powerful riff-based sequences, through stunning guitar solos to Prog ballads. The material is often hard to define, but is song based, powerful and, in contrast to many Prog bands, guitar led. The album has been expertly produced and mixed by Tim Cox. All in all the band feel that “Return of the Lydia” is a big step forward for The Tirith.

Thank you for buying this, the first ever album by I Am The Manic Whale. The songs on it are all about finding the beauty in things that are often not considered beautiful and how this changes with the passage of time. The earliest material on this album was written over ten years ago, although it is only in the last year that we have pulled out the stops to finish this creation. We hope that you enjoy it.   For more information about I Am The Manic Whale navigate your way to one of the links below.   W: iamthemanicwhale.com F: facebook.com/iamthemanicwhale T: @themanicwhale E: [email protected]
