I've been trying to lose some weight and get into a bit better shape by doing a lot of walking lately.  Hence a poll with walking songs.  I should probably have used discretion and just chose the ten best songs but instead I have decided to create multiple polls about walking and maxing out my options.  Hopefully, those that take the time to listen to all of the songs will discover something new and interesting.  For those who don't feel like listening to them all, feel free to choose King Crimson and Atomic Rooster.  Choose your 3 favorites and let us know which songs you like and which ones you don't.

LOL

Well, I would actually vote for the KC track; less sure about Atomic Rooster, though.
But, I prefer to choose tracks that I didn't hear before, so this became my Saturday coffee-croissant-newspaper playlist.

I didn't skip through that many tracks, actually: Blue Shift (I guess they better cover Yes songs than do their own material...), Charlie Griffiths (will probably never get into something like this), Coheed & Cambria (surprisingly cliché'ed, from their part), Event and Evergrey (both rather uninteresting to my ears).  The rest made this a pleasant listening trip.
From the prog metal thingies, Fates Warning was actually a very good listen; Dream Theater are mainly immitating themselves on this one - not bad, but nothing special either. Anathema was a good listen too. Some of the rest (all sub-genres), though not unpleasant, sound too unoriginal to me or too much prog by numbers.

If I keep myself from voting for the KC track, my three votes would go to:
- Elephant9, probably the best track I've heard from them so far, nice atmospheric... My preferred one of the whole list.
- Lunatic Soul; a bit mellow, maybe, but well, it was Saturday morning...
- Dusan Jetovic; not spectacular, but good.

Charlie Griffiths is the standout for me. Also notable are Land of Chocolate and Jean-Luc Ponty.

Kumm reminded me of U2.

I could go for a croissant right now.  Wink  Elephant9 are a great instrumental band.  I am finding that I like a lot of bands coming out of Norway.  At least those not playing black metal.  I came across a band called I Like to Sleep that I think that you might like.  I suggested them to the Jazz Rock/fusion team earlier this week.

Here is the last song from their latest release

As a fan of Haken, I was interested in hearing Charlie Griffith's debut solo album.  I do love the album cover.  Musically, I like what he did on this album, but he does enter growly territory a bit, which I could do without.  Land of Chocolate is a nice little Echolyn side project and I tend to like all things Echolyn related.  I was going to include Sidewalk Sale from Finneus Gauge, but couldn't find an individual YouTube video for that one.  I need to acquire more Jean-Luc Ponty.  This song was actually from a recent Prog magazine sampler download.

As did I, but except for a dozen of the more extreme tech thrash/death-bands such as Vektor and Blood Incantation (that I'm guessing you don't enjoy very much) it hasn't really translated into enjoying prog metal. I prefer my metal aggressive and think prog metal often gets lost in unnecessary intricacies, seemingly just for the sake of it - and I very rarely enjoy clean "pretty" vocals (in metal).

I've never heard Blood Incantation.  I've heard a couple of Vektor albums once each.  I don't remember them to be honest, but I rated them fairly high, although I suspect that I liked them musically but could have done without the vocals.  LOL

There are two tracks in particular that I have loved in this list, which are "Walk the Nile" and "Death Walks Behind You", which need no re-listening to remember how much I like them. And I have really liked that Birdsongs of the Mesozoic album but had forgotten the specific track -- re-listened, like it as I knew I would. The track I didn't yet know (or have I heard it before?) that caught my interest was the Kumm that washed over me and filled my ears with its synthy goodness (not so keen on the vocals, however). Most of those in the list that I didn't know I just sampled, to easily hear at least if something particularly interested me. Will give votes to Elephant9, Atomic Rooster, and Birdsongs of the Mesozoic as my three choices (I often do like to go with the new-to-me, but those are strong ones and two have solid places in my heart).
"Questions are a burden to others; answers a prison for oneself" (The Prisoner, 1967).
