Without the cd-era and digital era (because I have not bought any vinyl after 1989), so no idea wich albums are double-lps. Also without all the countless live and compilation albums.

I missed these two in all the lists:

Sky - Sky 2
Santana - Moonflower
Marshall Tucker Band - Where We All Belong
Allman Brothers Band - Eat a Peach
Marvin Gaye - Hear My Dear
Manassas - Manassas
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Harmonium - L'Heptade
Humble Pie - Eat It

LOLClap Also, Bitches Brew.

And I'd definitely include Get Up With It (my particular fave Davis album).

Plus John's choices for me:

I was about to say "mine too," but I think Big Fun may have stolen that title (if only temporarily)

Big Fun is terrific, and another particular fave of mine. That and Get Up With it are the two Davis albums I return to the most.
Most of the albums I considered were mentioned in 2011. In 2011 I would have included Zeit but I haven't listened to it in years so I don't know anymore.

Not originally a double album, are you referring to a special edition?

Some minor padding (all those solo tracks...) doesn't detract from the fact that Sky 2 has some of Sky's best music - Monkman's epic suite FIFO taking up one entire side, plus Toccata, Scipio, Sahara and the thunderous cover of Curved Air's Vivaldi... one of the best indeed!

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I'm giving some more love to Dark Magus by Miles Davis and Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart. The former is, in my opinion, one of Miles' best. Another favorite that I don't think has been mentioned here (although it's a triple album) is Escalator Over the Hill by Carla Bley and Paul Haines. Very surreal, jazzy, and a unique journey of an album.

Too hard. Can I put in a vote for 'North Circular' by The Bevis Frond, as my favourite triple studio album?

Genesis - Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Seconds Out
Nektar - Sounds Like
Rainbow - On Stage (heavy, somewhat proggy)

Unfortunately a one CD version of Marbles exists.

Nice to see Iron Maiden's Live After death mentioned here, one of the best live albums ever for me. Thumbs Up
Same for Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Thumbs Up

Assuming live albums are excluded and away from the usual suspects is the masterpiece that is Soft Machine's 'Third'.  Wyatt was inspired to expand the band to a seven piece, partly by the debut double album by Chicago (which has a lot to delight prog fans). However. by the time 'Third' came out, the band had reverted back to a four piece.

I don’t think you understood my message Cristi - I had the single CD version before I got the double CD, but don’t rate either very highly (as my post suggested!)
