4 stars 2007: Summer in Nagasaki

Summer in Nagasaki is the second part in The Five Atomic Seasons series. The series was inspired by an 82-year-old Japanese businessman who lived in Nagasaki in the spring and summer of 1945, but then moved to Hiroshima where he miraculously survived the horrific atomic bombing in the autumn of that year. Summer in Nagasaki is Tangerine Dream's 35th studio album and their 101st album overall, and believe it or not, we're not even halfway through Tangerine Dream's humongous discography yet as there's still over one hundred albums to go between now and 2022. Crikey! Will I be carried off to the funny farm before I finally manage to catalogue all of Tangerine Dream's seemingly endless panoply of albums, or is there always Raum for more? Find out in the next instalment, beginning in November. Sayonara, until the next time. Smile

5 stars 2007: Madcap's Flaming Duty - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ARrzcnvG5I

Shine On You Crazy Diamond! This stunning CD/DVD is a tribute to the mad, tortured genius of Syd Barrett, who ascended heavenward to The Great Gig in the Sky back in 2006. Madcap's Flaming Duty is Tangerine Dream's 34th studio album and their landmark 100th album overall. This phenomenal performance features a six-piece line-up of Edgar Froese, Thorsten Quaeschning, Bernhard Beibl, Linda Spa, Iris Camaa and New Wave-style vocalist Chris Hausl, who sounds not unlike Dave Gahan, so if you've ever wondered what Tangerine Dream combined with Depeche Mode would sound like, then it sounds something like this. Look out for Bernhard Beibl playing his guitar with a wine bottle while dressed as Ritchie Blackmore. Smile

4 stars 2007: Ocean Waves Collection

The Ocean Waves Collection is Tangerine Dream's 99th album, featuring a compilation of musical soundscapes where you can lie back and relax and just let the music wash over you.

Springtime in Nagasaki is Tangerine Dream's 33rd full-length studio album and their 98th album overall. This is the first album in the Five Atomic Seasons series, featuring Edgar Froese & Thorsten Quaeschning in a far more reflective mood as this series of albums commemorates the horrific and devastating atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th & the 9th in 1945.
The album serves as a  timely reminder that the ever-present threat of nuclear war still remains with us to this day. Ouch

Which makes these lyrics still very actual:

Flower Travellin' Band - "Hiroshima"

       Once upon a summer day
In their midst, a mushroom grew
They never saw
They never, never knew

They're walking on the street
Making shadows on the wall
They're sitting on the steps
Melting into stone

Children of the mushroom
Aren't we all, aren't we all
       Cry
(from the album Made in Japan (1972))

quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

4 stars 2007: Silver Siren Collection - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_k9BTPzW-Q7KKfwFzfi-YAQDi3PfoogfiU

The Silver Siren Collection is Tangerine Dream's 97th album. Following on from Antique Dreams (2000), this is the second of four compilations in the Antique Dream Land series. Journey across a musical soundscape with Tangerine Dream, where some of the sounds will be strangely familiar, but others will sound unfamiliarly strange. That's the Beauty of the Blast. Smile

4 stars 2006: Detroit - March 31st 1977 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SWCW2MDmqs

"Detroit 1977" is Tangerine Dream's 25th Live album and their 95th album overall (excluding mini-albums, DVD/Video albums and compilations). This is the ninth and final double album in The Bootmoon Series, where dusty old live recordings from yesteryear have had the cobwebs blown away and been given a new lease of life in the 21st century. Smile

4 stars 2006: Metaphor (mini-album) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhOq8fF2Xk0

Another mini-album, which serves as a handy Metaphor for the endless complexities of Tangerine Dream's tremendous discography. Smile

Some background blurb about Metaphor from Tangerine Dream themselves:-

"Metaphor is composed to be a sound transfer between the Year of the Dog and the Year of the Pig. Enjoy yourselves with new hope and leave the old dogs behind. Prepare yourselves for a piggy rodeo!" Pig

No, I've no idea what it means either, but it gets even better:-

"The phylogenetic unconscious circuit of nothing and the conscious illusion of everything searching for a black hat in a dark room which isn't there."

Far out, man! Tongue

3 stars 2006: 40 Years Roadmap to Music (mini-album) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVnT3_Yfb2I

40 Years Roadmap to Music is a mini-album, released as an adjunct to the marvellous Temprodrome concert with the three pieces of additional music composed individually by Edgar Froese, Jerome Froese & Thorsten Quaeschning. What with mini-albums, video albums and bootleg recordings added to an already long and complicated discography, arranging Tangerine Dream's numerous albums into some semblance of order is fast-becoming a Quartermaster's Nightmare. Smile

5 stars 2006: Tempodrome Berlin (DVD/Video) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrxZ3lo1jS4

A classic concert from the Tempodrome Arena at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, filmed during what must surely be one of the Pinnacles of Tangerine Dream's long career, featuring a seven-piece Austro-German line-up of Edgar Froese, Jerome Froese, Thorsten Quaeschning, Linda Spa, Iris Camaa, Bernhard Beibl & Gerald Gradwohl on guitar. Beer

Are you ready to experience a spiritual awakening with the ultimate Tangerine Dream experience!? This is Dante's La Divina Commedia  brought to life in a stunning live performance in the magnificent setting of an old castle near Cologne in Germany. Clap

5 stars 2006: Paradiso

The sopranos are back! Not to worry though, as these aren't gun-toting gangsters, but the return of the six lovely sopranos from the Dante's Divine Comedy trilogy. Paradiso is the third part in this magnificent trilogy of albums, following on from Inferno (2002) and Purgatorio (2004). Paradiso marks Tangerine Dream's 32nd studio album and their 93rd album overall and features Edgar Froese, Thorsten Quaeschning, Linda Spa and Iris Camaa. As with the two previous albums in the trilogy, Paradiso is a truly beautiful musical experience which was many months in the making, which really shows through in the outstanding production values of this superb album. Thumbs Up

4 stars 2006: Blue Dawn (recorded in 1988) - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLysAMpdtsfRBlC6yTEWtIaGevdiB9SvHn

Dawn comes around every 24 hours, but in the case of Blue Dawn, it's taken 18 long years for it to finally appear on the horizon. This is Tangerine Dream's 31st studio album and their 92nd album overall. Blue Dawn was composed and recorded back in 1988 during Tangerine Dream's North American tour, but for various unknown reasons, the album was never released at the time. The album features the short-lived duo of Edgar Froese and (blink and you'll miss him) Ralf Wadephul, whose membership of Tangerine Dream was as ephemeral as a proverbial blue dawn.  Smile

4 stars 2005: Phaedra 2005

The tragic Phaedra of Greek mythology has risen from the ashes! Phaedra 2005 is a re-recording of the classic album from 1974,  marking Tangerine Dream's 30th studio album and their 91st album overall. The bonus track "Delfi" was composed in 2005 but recorded in the spirit of the seventies, and dare I say, this contemporary re-recording is even better than the original Phaedra album
(invites mockery). Embarrassed

As I Recall, There's also a Totally large number of live bootleg fan recordings too, under the umbrella titles of Tangerine Tree, Branches and Leaves, but I'm not even going to go there, as Tangerine Dream's humungous discography is complicated enough already as it is. Smile

The live bootleg albums are a series amount and the quality of the production is great. Once again thanks for the thread. ^
