ISoH has the edge because it has a lot more previously unreleased music, with the crown jewel being the long-desired Oedipus Tyrannus. Then a full CD of Phaedra outtakes and five full discs devoted to three concerts in London circa '74-75. Anyone who was "on the fence" about plunking down is surely kicking themselves now!
PoPT is a great box for me (the line-up with Schmoelling is my favorite), but apart from The Soldier it's not exactly a lot of new music. It's nice to have The Keep but the music had already been released in a limited edition (W.B. said it was new and newly remastered from the original source, which is nonsense). What they should have done is presented the complete Risky Business score. That'd be something! Of course, the remastering and the book are worth the price of admission, regardless.

2005: Kyoto (recorded in 1983) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8ax7OY7fCA
Ohayo Gozaimasu! Kyoto is Tangerine Dream's 28th studio album and their 88th album overall. Kyoto features compositions by Edgar Froese & Johannes Schmoelling intended for their 1983 tour of Japan, but which never saw the light of day, until now that is. Sayonara - until the next time. |

2005: Jeanne D'Arc - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNf_Btfq4nY
The future is bright - the future is Tangerine! Jeanne D'Arc is Tangerine Dream's 29th studio album and their 89th album overall. As you may have guessed from the album title, this is a tribute to Joan of Arc - the French 15th century heroine of The Hundred Years War and the original feminist of the women's liberation movement, long before Germaine Greer came along and told women to burn their bras five centuries later. This album is where the stars come into perfect alignment for Tangerine Dream, as not only does it feature the welcome return of Linda Spa on saxophone (her first appearance on a Tangerine Dream studio album since the Goblins' Club album in 1996), but it's also the first album to include keyboard player Thorsten Quaeschning as a full-time member of the band. Sadly though, this would be the last appearance of Jerome Froese in the TD line-up, having been with the band since the Melrose album in 1990. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - October 12 2022 at 12:21 |

2005: Rocking Mars (Live: recorded in 1999) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x92A7REbuo
Is there Life on Mars? No, but there's an abundance of life on Rocking Mars: Tangerine Dream's 23rd Live album and their 90th album overall. This album Rocks! It's the fifth and final album in The Vault Series, recorded Live in 1999 by Edgar & Jerome Froese with two guest musicians on guitar and percussion. If you're blessed with Total Recall, then you may recall that some of the music from Rocking Mars was used on the Mars Polaris studio album in 1999. Hasta la vista, baby, until the next time. ^ Thanks! I'm enjoying the music too. All of Tangerine Dream's albums beyond the 1980's are virtually unexplored territory for me, just like the surface of Mars, and the number of albums is truly eye-popping!
As I Recall, There's also a Totally large number of live bootleg fan recordings too, under the umbrella titles of Tangerine Tree, Branches and Leaves, but I'm not even going to go there, as Tangerine Dream's humungous discography is complicated enough already as it is.

2005: Phaedra 2005
The tragic Phaedra of Greek mythology has risen from the ashes! Phaedra 2005 is a re-recording of the classic album from 1974, marking Tangerine Dream's 30th studio album and their 91st album overall. The bonus track "Delfi" was composed in 2005 but recorded in the spirit of the seventies, and dare I say, this contemporary re-recording is even better than the original Phaedra album (invites mockery). 2006: Blue Dawn (recorded in 1988) - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLysAMpdtsfRBlC6yTEWtIaGevdiB9SvHn
Dawn comes around every 24 hours, but in the case of Blue Dawn, it's taken 18 long years for it to finally appear on the horizon. This is Tangerine Dream's 31st studio album and their 92nd album overall. Blue Dawn was composed and recorded back in 1988 during Tangerine Dream's North American tour, but for various unknown reasons, the album was never released at the time. The album features the short-lived duo of Edgar Froese and (blink and you'll miss him) Ralf Wadephul, whose membership of Tangerine Dream was as ephemeral as a proverbial blue dawn. |

2006: Paradiso
The sopranos are back! Not to worry though, as these aren't gun-toting gangsters, but the return of the six lovely sopranos from the Dante's Divine Comedy trilogy. Paradiso is the third part in this magnificent trilogy of albums, following on from Inferno (2002) and Purgatorio (2004). Paradiso marks Tangerine Dream's 32nd studio album and their 93rd album overall and features Edgar Froese, Thorsten Quaeschning, Linda Spa and Iris Camaa. As with the two previous albums in the trilogy, Paradiso is a truly beautiful musical experience which was many months in the making, which really shows through in the outstanding production values of this superb album. 2006: Tempodrome Berlin (DVD/Video) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrxZ3lo1jS4
A classic concert from the Tempodrome Arena at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, filmed during what must surely be one of the Pinnacles of Tangerine Dream's long career, featuring a seven-piece Austro-German line-up of Edgar Froese, Jerome Froese, Thorsten Quaeschning, Linda Spa, Iris Camaa, Bernhard Beibl & Gerald Gradwohl on guitar. |

2006: 40 Years Roadmap to Music (mini-album) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVnT3_Yfb2I
40 Years Roadmap to Music is a mini-album, released as an adjunct to the marvellous Temprodrome concert with the three pieces of additional music composed individually by Edgar Froese, Jerome Froese & Thorsten Quaeschning. What with mini-albums, video albums and bootleg recordings added to an already long and complicated discography, arranging Tangerine Dream's numerous albums into some semblance of order is fast-becoming a Quartermaster's Nightmare. 2006: Metaphor (mini-album) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhOq8fF2Xk0
Another mini-album, which serves as a handy Metaphor for the endless complexities of Tangerine Dream's tremendous discography. Some background blurb about Metaphor from Tangerine Dream themselves:- "Metaphor is composed to be a sound transfer between the Year of the Dog and the Year of the Pig. Enjoy yourselves with new hope and leave the old dogs behind. Prepare yourselves for a piggy rodeo!" No, I've no idea what it means either, but it gets even better:- "The phylogenetic unconscious circuit of nothing and the conscious illusion of everything searching for a black hat in a dark room which isn't there." Far out, man! Edited by Psychedelic Paul - October 15 2022 at 12:33 |

2006: Detroit - March 31st 1977 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SWCW2MDmqs
"Detroit 1977" is Tangerine Dream's 25th Live album and their 95th album overall (excluding mini-albums, DVD/Video albums and compilations). This is the ninth and final double album in The Bootmoon Series, where dusty old live recordings from yesteryear have had the cobwebs blown away and been given a new lease of life in the 21st century.

2007: Silver Siren Collection - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_k9BTPzW-Q7KKfwFzfi-YAQDi3PfoogfiU
The Silver Siren Collection is Tangerine Dream's 97th album. Following on from Antique Dreams (2000), this is the second of four compilations in the Antique Dream Land series. Journey across a musical soundscape with Tangerine Dream, where some of the sounds will be strangely familiar, but others will sound unfamiliarly strange. That's the Beauty of the Blast. 2007: Springtime in Nagasaki
Springtime in Nagasaki is Tangerine Dream's 33rd full-length studio album and their 98th album overall. This is the first album in the Five Atomic Seasons series, featuring Edgar Froese & Thorsten Quaeschning in a far more reflective mood as this series of albums commemorates the horrific and devastating atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th & the 9th in 1945. The album serves as a timely reminder that the ever-present threat of nuclear war still remains with us to this day. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - October 17 2022 at 10:53 |

Which makes these lyrics still very actual: Flower Travellin' Band - "Hiroshima" Once upon a summer day In their midst, a mushroom grewThey never saw They never, never knew They're walking on the street Making shadows on the wall They're sitting on the steps Melting into stone Children of the mushroom Aren't we all, aren't we all (from the album Made in Japan (1972)) |
