If you like daunting propositions, I am really looking forward to you tackling Klaus Schulzes catalogue. For that expedition you'll have to pack extra provisions and say goodbye to friends and family. There are 50 discs in "The Ultimate Edition" alone.

I'm planning to save and savour Klaus Schulze's many en=trancing albums when I've eventually finished listing and listening to Tangerine Dream's 150+ albums.

1998: The Hollywood Years, Vol. 1 (unused soundtracks compilation)
The Hollywood Years, Vol. 1 is Tangerine Dream's 61st album overall. It's actually a compilation, but don't let that put you off as the album features all-new material, consisting of unused soundtracks from dozens of films, all composed and performed by Edgar & Jerome Froese. Wouldn’t put me off it’s great to hear the unused pieces off the soundtracks sometimes I do find that. I wonder why a piece of the music didn’t make it onto the soundtrack itself! |

1998: Transsiberia (soundtrack) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGFS-vjYokU&t=283s
It's all aboard for Trannsiberia (or "Transsiberia: The Russian Express Railway Service", to give the album its full title). Transsiberia is Tangerine Dream's 23rd soundtrack and their 63rd album overall. Fittingly, the rhythmic music sounds like a train rumbling down the tracks, so step on board and experience the journey of a lifetime as you travel through the Arctic tundra from Moscow to Vladivostok in just 52 minutes with Tangerine Dream. Obviously, it can't compare with the epic 6,000 mile train journey, but at least you won't need to share a cramped compartment with Russian peasants for seven days and there's no risk of frostbite either. 1998: Valentine Wheels
Valentine Wheels is Tangerine Dream's 9th Live album and their 64th album overall. The album was recorded at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London in 1997 and featured Edgar and Jerome Froese and the final appearance by Zlatko Perica on guitar. There's no new material on this Live album, although that's in its favour, as this is really a compilation of some of Tangerine Dream's finest tunes from years gone by. Track Listing:-

1998: Dream Encores
Dream Encores is Tangerine Dream's 65th album. It's a part-compilation album of remixes from previous albums (just what we all needed! ), but it's actually not bad as Dream Encores also includes six tracks unique to this album:- Order of the Ginger Guild; Eleanor Rigby; Oriental Haze; Thief Yang and the Tangram Seal; Purple Haze; & Dominion. A pretty good collection for anyone's money, I think you'll agree. What could well have been an average 3-star album has turned out to be a very respectable 4-star album. At the end of the day though (another cliche!), this album is really just an excuse for me to post another video of lovely Linda Spa in uniform again. Track Listing:- 1. Order Of The Ginger Guild 2. Forth Worth Runway One 3. Eleanor Rigby 4. Oriental Haze 5. Story Of The Brave 6. Thief Yang And The Tangram Seal 7. Catwalk 8. Purple Haze 9. The Midnight Trail 10. Rolling Down Cahuenga 11. Towards The Evening Star 12. Dominion Edited by Psychedelic Paul - September 25 2022 at 13:37 |

1998: Luminous Visions (DVD/Video) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZvQfr3NfBI&t=2452s
Luminous Visions is Tangerine Dream's 3rd DVD/Video album. The Luminous Visions DVD is a collection of previously recorded TD songs, featuring the colourful moving images of Japanese computer artist Yoichiro Kawaguchi, so definitely not an album for the colour blind then. |

The two Hollywood Years volumes turned out to be major surprises. Whether they're outtakes or material that's genuinely created for use in film doesn't matter to me ("...have filled the TD library with unused music material"). Both discs contain a lot of great music that has yet to appear anywhere else. A superb sequencer piece by Edgar Froese from Vol. 1. From Vol. 2, another distinctly "Edgar" piece, the basis of which I've no doubt was created in the '80s. |

^ I only wish the full links for The Hollywood Years two albums were available on YouTube.
========================================================== 1999: Sohoman (Live: recorded in 1982) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZnS8psus-w&t=293s Sohoman is Tangerine Dream's 10th Live album and their 66th album overall. The album was recorded Live in Sydney Australia back in 1982 by the classic trio of Edgar Froese, Chris Franke & Johannes Schmoelling. Sohoman is the first of three albums in TD's Classic Editions series, preceding Soundmill Navigator (2000) & Antique Dreams (2000). This album represents a real nostalgia trip for Tangerine Dream fans, taking us back to those halcyon days of the 1980's when you could buy a Tangerine Dream album without hearing it first, safe in the knowledge that you wouldn't be left feeling disappointed - unlike the 1990's. Join the club! Goblins' Club is a better album than I've given it credit for, at least according to VersLibre.

1999: What a Blast: Architecture in Motion (soundtrack) - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyv-otkycECYALGP5CM_XF_T56e4jo67Z
We're on the Eve of Destruction..... What a Blast is Tangerine Dream's 24th soundtrack and their 67th album overall. Tangerine Dream have brought the house down many times over the years at some of their amazing concerts, but this time they're quite literally bringing down the houses - with the aid of a few demolition men and a crateful of TNT, so stand well back because the explosive documentary video below is pure dynamite!.
