Pharoah Sanders, giant of spirit-driven jazz, dies at 81

Oof. This one hurts. A giant indeed.

RIP
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Sunday for me is always “Jazz Sunday”, and I usually have either no idea or just a couple of ideas what I want to listen to, and what I actually listen to on the day sort of reveals itself.

I had two albums I thought I might listen to today, and they were Mark de Clive Lowe’s “Freedom”, and the new The Comet is Coming. While I guess it is possible that the MDCL is played, I doubt TCIC will get a look in.

I began the day with easily one of my favourite Pharaoh Sanders albums, “Jewels of Thought”, and am presently listening to “Karma”.

RIP

Huge fan of his sound, I mean talk about having a style that makes me think of him alone, although Zorn certainly brings that style to the fore on those Electric Masada albums. Zorn was clearly a big fan.
He's on some classics like Arcana's Arc Of The Testimony, Larry Young's Lawrence Of Newark and Sonny Sharrock's Ask The Ages all in my "best of the best" Jazz list.
