^ Yes indeed, for a 2004 review that is quite normal. I would expect better from a Prog reviewer in later years. I think it should stay, especially as it has some "historical value".

I don't know if I'd call that 'abuse" but we got a joker on our hands.

I'm guessing that's not his real name, that's probably enough to get him thrown off on its own.

Yeah but that's not remotely funny, someone needs to have a word.

I was about to report the same. Maybe the author wanted to be funny, but I find it just plain stupid.

^ What's so funny about DickSweat56? I have a vewy gweat fwiend in Wome named DickSweat56. Inappropriate review removed (and saved elsewhere), and while I don't expect a response to a PM and the user would need to log in to the forum to see it, I have shot off a PM. Likely the person has had another account at PA.

Yes, I remember one messing up with words thinking to be funny a couple of years ago. This has the same kind of "humor".

Test post (to see if I have a local issue). If so I'll remove this and the previous one

...this is fine, but it's to late to delete the previous. Sorry for that "java" stuff

^ I had the same problem at one time. Disabling the WYSIWYG post editor in the Forum Preferences section of the Member Control Panel solved it then. Not only did one have the same kind of humour, but I recall, I also got rid of one from someone who also used Big Chungus as his "real" name (course it's not the real name and is another "member" reference, rather like Biggus Dickus, who is a great friend in Rome) and West Africa as his location.

This probably doesn't go as far as review/ratings abuse but interested in the powers-that-be's thoughts.

Have just listened to Antony Kalugin's latest album and reviewed with my thoughts on how frustratingly bland it is. If anyones seen anything previous you'll know this is a long running issue I've had with his solo work and with Karfagen to a lesser extent.

In doing so I noticed a 5* review from user CAERLLYSI
http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=2770607
To its credit, they're pretty open about the fact that the user is actually the label under which Kalugin's music is released. But of course they're going to give their own man 5 stars to try and drive up sales! As they have done with every Kalugin/Karfagen/Sunchild/Hoggwash album...

Is this sort of review really allowed? At least they're open about who they are but it does seem like artificial inflation of ratings to me.

Being very cynical too, if you look back at other Kalugin albums, there is a core of accounts who pretty much exclusively only provide ratings/reviews for Kalugin, of 5* and sickeningly gushing about how wonderful he is.

Realise this is driven a little by my own personal subjective opinion on something being overrated but it does seem a bit weird.

^^ I know Matt, this type of thing is as old as the hills on this site. Will does tend to get over-excited about anything he releases; his own website is full of superlatives. It reminds me of good old Malcolm Parker from Cyclops 20 odd years ago; you'd never ask him whether one of his own releases was any good; to him it was always 5 stars, the best thing they've ever done/ he'd ever have the pleasure of releasing on his label... until the next release 2-3 months later, bless him!

I'm not going to say too much for fear of creating a storm, but believe me, there are more established acts who used to have a network of fans who used to do the rounds of sites with their 5 star reviews to drum up trade. You didn't mind except they only had 5 posts to their name and only reviewed a few bands and side projects upon release, all conveniently 5 stars.... Wink

Yes, I wholeheartedly concur with all of this. It is a major reason why I decided against having ratings, stars, call them what you will on my website.

^ I sent a PM to Mariusz Duda of Riverside (we're friends on Facebook) and he didn't seem to be happy about this... He replied that they will report it to the label. So I don't think that person has a legitimate copy (promo)...

Haven't you seen the Avengers movies? Apparently a time heist.

That's an overreaction.

I was hoping one of the admins will nuke the review, that's why I brought the issue to everyone's attention. That's all.
