Hey guys, the poll is ready and you can start voting now! You have about one week to do so. Please vote for your favourite FOUR except your own. Comments are always very welcome and appreciated.

I have a few questions for you below the line-up. There you have the opportunity to express your opinion about the topic and the genreral course of the poll. Criticism and suggestions are very welcome.

Here is the playlist. It has also been added to the OP on page one of this thread. Line-Up

And now enjoy the music and have fun! Clap

I assume if you click on a survey question, this means that your answer is YES?

I haven't much of substance to say, but I decided to go with these four (really love Aquaserge).

Aquaserge - Un grand sommeil noir
Moura - Baile do dentón
Tindersticks - The Bought Bends or My Sister
Gov't Mule - Make It Rain

And I like the poll theme, found it well explained, and have had more than enough time despite being busy. I do care about comments and while I have time to comment myself, I can't of anything that I think even potentially interesting/ insightful to convey. And I did enjoy the music overall.

Thanks for the round, Mila.

I'll also answer yes to all the questions except having time for commenting. The time frame is OK but as I always say I wouldn't complain about having more time. Now to the music... that's more difficult! Big smile Very nice theme for me personally!

I went with these:
Samuele Bersani - Lu ruciu de lu mare
Matmos - Unknown Title
Anthony Joseph - Swing Praxis
Aquaserge - Un grand sommeil noir

I didn't choose Anna von Hausswolff's track because I actually experienced it live. She played in a 17th century chapel and the music sounded bigger than life, reverberating through the aisle, contrasting nicely with the intimate low purple lights.

Like Greg, I generally don't have much to comment (other than nerdy production stuff) but I love reading other people's thoughts.

Speaking of Aquaserge, I return often to this YT video. I love its warm vibe, it sounds much better than the studio version to my ears.

^ Hearing Anna von Hausswolff perform in such a setting would be glorious to me, and makes me once again wish I lived in Europe.

And that Aquaserge video is enchanting, Samuel.

^^ Sam, this is such a good track, as good and energetic as the entire album! Their latest work is stylistically quite different, it is inspired by 20th century avant-garde classical music. That's interesting but musically less appealing to me. Of course I do appreciate artists who try new things but what I like most about this band is their relaxed and playful way of experimenting, while the music remains enjoyable, without drifting into the trivial. That got a bit lost on their new album imo. But I do like the submitted track and I'm glad you like it. too.

It you have a moment, please do the little survey. That could help improve the polls and perhapts attract more people again. :)

I do this time to time for listening to polls, which is import the playlist onto an app on my phone for streaming on random play, which limits the ads from YouTube and play it as I work. I vary when it comes to music while I work but for the most part I tune out and it becomes background sounds. I often stream music recommendations through Amazon. Anyway. The point I am getting to is that when a track catches my ear in such conditions, I will break to explore further. So three from the poll that stood out were Matmos. Moura, and Anna von Hauswolff. So first three votes went to them. Though with Anna von Hauswolff, Dead Magic was one of my favorites from 2018, but I hadn't heard the live track before. Great performance. I loved that little rasp at the end. Matmos was impressive and I later streamed Plastic Anniversary and its on my (rather lengthy) to purchase list. Will have to pay attention for any performances that I can get to. Saw that they reside in Baltimore, which is about 3 hours for me. Then had to take some further listens for my fourth, which goes to Aquaserge.

As for the poll questions, I answered yes to all but my own time to comment. Limited right now by work and my son moving in for the time being.

^ Glad that live version of Anna von Hausswolff stood out for you here, and lovely write-up on your choices. Her Live at Montreux Jazz Festival album, which was released early this year is, I think, very good. Dead Magic was one of my favourites in 2018, and I like it even more now.

While I subscribe to Youtube Premium for one of my children (which as ad free), I must admit that I just use an adblocker (my eldest reprimanded me). I tend to listen to ones in the thread from individual posts and from the youtube playlist. I tend to put on the playlist in order a number of times on my android phone, put it in desktop mode so it can be in the background (usually am doing other things) and still play, and then return to the ones that stood out the most (my shortlist). I do find at different times depending upon various factors, different music might resonate the most with me. So what I think will get my vote after my first run through might not at another time as something else might click on next listen.

My votes go to Anthony Joseph, Primus, Moura, and Brandao Faber Hunger.
I didn't vote for Aquaserge as I know this track, but it's great.
Lorenzo's two nominations both lost out narrowly; The Dream Syndicate is another case where the singing is not quite to my liking and drags down an otherwise excellent track. The Samuele Bersani track is an event; I like it more than I expected, but it's not quite up with those voted. I love quite some material from Anna von Hausswolff and actually also saw her on her church organ tour, which was great, but this particular track doesn't attract me that much. I imagine the Gov's Mute track to work very well live, even though for listening at home it's not really my cup of tea.

I like Primus a lot, know a number of their older albums but not this one, and would be very happy to see them live. The Anthony Joseph track was the first I knew I'd vote for, very powerful. Same can be said about Moura; I listened to this and Dream Syndicate a few times to decide between them, very narrowly. Brandao Faber Hunger in Swiss German is a very special intimate tune that I just had to vote for.

These last weeks I didn't have much time and got to listen to the - very pleasant - nominations playlist only now. So, no commenting from me this time (but in my haste I said Yes to all poll questions), but straight to the votes...
My choices are for the dreamy Dream Syndicate, the extraordinary Anna von Hausswolff, the space-rocky Moura and the excellent chamber-y Aquaserge.

Regarding the time-span for these polls, I think the two-week schedule (with two weekends) is very suitable. Normally it should give enough time for everyone to suggest, nominate and listen, and if possible comment... Normally...

Another great edition comes to an end, and I’m spoilt for choice here, once again. After several listenings I have come to a decision after all. So, these are the acts that stood out for me:

Matmos Experimental, and in this case experimental electronic music always attracts my attention. Besides conventional instruments and synths, Matmos work with samples and integrate field recordings and diverse noises into their music. In this particular piece influences of drum’n’bass and minimal techno can be perceived which makes their music more accessible, esp. for a younger audience which I find quite amazing!

Anthony Joseph Poetry transported through music. I haven’t seen that in this form and quality before. The music here is not just an accompaniment, it forms a new whole together with this socio politically charged content. I wouldn’t miss out on that experience if I ever get the chance!

Anna von Hausswolff I had already heard of Anna von Hausswolff before, but I was not familiar with her recent work. This combination of rock music with the sound of a church organ is definitely unusual and has a powerful impact as a live recording. I can’t say that I am a big fan of this ethereal darkwave type of music, but I do recognise Anna's exceptional talent. I will definitely take a closer look at her other recordings.

Moura The band combines various rock music styles with the traditional sounds of their Galician homeland and creates a unique style of their own. I know several rock andaluz bands but Moura definitely adds a new facet to the rich pallet of Spanish folk rock, and this in top quality! You rarely get to hear rock bands from the Iberian Penninsula in my part of the world but maybe I will have the chance to see Moura in neighbouring France during the holidays.

Honorable mentions:

I enjoyed Gov't Mule's groovy blues rock very much, a genre that I haven't listened to for a while now. The same goes for the infectious stoner rock sounds of Miss Lava. It was also exciting to hear about the Taranta Festival in the Salento region in Southern Italy. I find all three acts great and I'm sure it is a unique experience to see them live, resp. to attend the festival.

Thank you all for taking the time to participate in this little survey and for your additional comments. I do think that a few more days for the polls would be reasonable. I’ll keep that in mind for next time. A short break between the polls would probably make them more enjoyable and also there would be more time for possible comments; maybe we would even get a few more participants. I was asked to do a poll at short notice and could therefore only start it after the weekend. I could just as well have waited a few more days. Then we would have had the two weekends.

Thank you for the music, the great videos and accompanying stories that brought back the atmosphere of live concerts to us! Clap
