No, I never got to see Tangerine Dream play Live, but I have seen a lot of electronica artists play Live in Derby, including:- Ed Alleyne Johnson; Andy Pickford; Bekki Williams; Robert Fox; David Wright: Paul Nagle; Paul Ward; Ian Boddy; Mark Shreeve; John Serrie; & John Dyson, to name just a few.

I had no idea that Derby was a hotbed of electronica. Is that because of Delia?

Derby is the electronic music capital of the world, probably, which is mainly thanks to Les & Kathy May who used to run Midas Records in Derby, which specialised in electronic music, and also thanks to Ashley Franklin, who had an electronic music show on BBC Radio Derby, although he's a photographer now, as you can probably tell from the picture. |

1991: The Park is Mine (soundtrack, recorded in 1985) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8nn6KGysy0
The Park is Mine is Tangerine Dream's 42nd album overall and their 16th soundtrack, recorded back in 1985 by the classic TD trio of Edgar Froese, Chris Franke & Johannes Schmoelling. The straight-to-video movie stars Tommie Lee Jones as a disgruntled Vietnam War veteran who takes over New York Central Park, so you can expect to see plenty of fireworks. The movie may not have made much of an impact, but the atmospheric soundtrack is a force to be reckoned with. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - September 07 2022 at 14:37 |

1991: L'Affaire Wallraff / The Man Inside (soundtrack, recorded in 1989) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP_REEODfFI
L'Affaire Walraff (The Man Inside), is Tangerine Dream's 17th soundtrack and their 43rd album overall, recorded back in 1989 by Edgar Froese & Paul Haslinger. The movie stars Peter Coyote & Jurgen Prochnow, who you may recall once played the part of a U-boat captain in World War 2. Das Boot is on the other foot now though, as the movie "L'Affaire Walraff (The Man Inside)" sunk without trace. The soundtrack is well-worth a listen though. |

1992: Rockoon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBEhINJwdE0
Linda Spa joined Tangerine Dream in the early 1990's, but she's not credited on this album, so who's that playing the saxophone on several tracks? Track Listing:- 1. Big City Dwarves (6:00) 2. Red Roadster (8:30) 3. Touchwood (4:34) 4. Graffiti Street (5:04) 5. Funky Atlanta (4:00) 6. Spanish Love (5:40) 7. Lifted Veil (3:30) 8. Penguin Reference (4:45) 9. Body Corporate (3:40) 10. Rockoon (7:21) 11. Girls on Broadway (4:44)

Richard "Richi" Wester is the saxophonist on "Red Roadster," "Lifted Veil" and "Body Corporate." Ten months in production...I don't hear anything that merited such a long interval. "Big City Dwarves" is the best cut (why it's also the first cut), but the rest isn't too memorable, though not necessarily any worse than Melrose.

Thanks for the info about the mystery saxophonist. I was tempted to give Rockoon a 4-star rating, but I guessed you'd probably tell me I'd over-rated it again, after being over-generous with my initial 4-star rating for the Melrose album.

1992: Rumpelstiltskin (audio book)
Rumpelstiltskin is a rare Tangerine Dream album, recorded as an audio novel for children and read by actress Kathleen Turner, which is a big enough inducement for me to go out and buy the album, just to hear Miss Turner's sultry tones again, having last seen her in the hot and steamy film noir, "Body Heat". Rumpelstiltskin was recorded by the father and son duo of Edgar & Jerome Froese, marking Tangerine Dream's 45th album overall, and very good it is too, if the sample video below is anything to go by. Unfortunately, this album is so rare that there's no link currently available for the full album on YouTube.

1992: Deadly Care (soundtrack, recorded in 1987) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqEv6c-rDSk
Deadly Care is Tangerine Dream's 18th soundtrack and their 47th album overall. The made-for-TV movie stars Cheryl Ladd of Charlie's Angels fame, in a movie that's low on glamour but high in melodrama, so keep a box of tissues handy. 1993: 220 Volts Live - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGckEEA2BKqGkllbJljw2kPYCK6ckjfot
220 Volts Live is Tangerine Dream's 48th album overall and their 7th Live album, and as with all of Tangerine Dream's Live albums so far, 220 Volts Live features all-new material. The album was recorded during Tangerine Dream's US tour in 1992 and marks the first appearance of saxophonist Linda Spa and guitarist Zlatko Perico, but why on earth is Linda Spa dressed as an East German border guard!?? Track Listing:- 1. Oriental Haze (6:52) 2. Two Bunch Palms (5:48) 3. 220 Volt (9:01) 4. Homeless (9:48) 5. Sundance Kid (8:04) 6. Backstreet Hero (8:49) 7. Blue Bridge (4:47) 8. Hamlet (8:30) 9. Dreamtime (3:46) 10. Purple Haze (3:32) 11. Treasure of Innocence (3:41) (studio track)

1993: Three Phase: Live in America 1992 (DVD/Video) - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_n-2hTupDP4nYYRUkOFa2D6v6FRNZtB7nU
This is where keeping track of Tangerine Dream's mammoth discography begins to get a bit murky..... Three Phase is Tangerine Dream's 8th Live album and their 49th album overall, or is it? Three Phase is actually a companion DVD/Video to their previous album - 220 Volts Live - filmed on their North American tour, and significant for being Tangerine Dream's first official DVD/Video release. The album link above is from a 2004 re-release of the album titled "Live in America 1992". Confused? I will be. Track Listing:- 1. Two Bunch Palms
2. Dolls in the Shadow 3. Treasure Of Innocence 4. Oriental Haze 5. Graffiti Street 6. Backstreet Hero 7. Phaedra 8. Love on a Real Train 9. Hamlet 10. Purple Haze 11. Logos Edited by Psychedelic Paul - September 25 2022 at 12:39 |
