Thanks! I just found the playlist for Babylon 5: The Lost Tales on YouTube and added it to the bottom of my list. It wasn't lost after all.

![]() Optical Race is Tangerine Dream's 35th album overall. That's 18 studio albums, 6 Live albums and 11 soundtracks for anyone who's still counting. Optical Race is noteworthy for being the first album without long-time member Chris Franke, meaning the usual TD trio became a duo of Edgar Froese & Paul Haslinger for this album. It's also notable for being their first album on Peter Baumann's Private Music label, marking the beginning of "The Melrose Years" era. Unfortunately, in a momentary lapse of reason, Optical Race is one of three Tangerine Dream albums I gave away to a charity shop (along with Underwater Sunlight & Lily on the Beach), so I must have needed my eyes (or ears) testing at the time as I've regretted giving them away ever since. Anyway, what's the first prize in an Optical Race? Do you get to choose a free pair of glasses at Specsavers? ![]() Yes, those exotic eastern dancers really ARE performing in time to the music of Tangerine Dream! ![]() Track Listing:- 1. Marakesh (8:17) 2. Atlas Eyes (4:04) 3. Mothers of Rain (5:13) 4. Twin Soul Tribe (4:38) 5. Optical Race (3:13) 6. Cat Scan (5:35) 7. Sun Gate (4:44) 8. Turning Off the Wheel (6:11) 9. The Midnight Trail (5:54) 10. Ghazal (Love Song) (5:00)

"Sun Gate" was the sole track co-composed by Froese, Haslinger and "the new guy," Ralf Wadephul. The song originally was written as a vocal and the melody was replaced by a keyboard part. Then guitar was added. IMO, it's one of the album's best tracks. I'm not sure why Wadephul didn't stick around much longer after the tour. He seemed to enjoy being part of the group. RW: "I admire Edgar's ability to grasp and elaborate the mood, the feeling of a piece; Paul's ingenious technical capacities and playing virtuosity. I hope we'll be together for a long time."

![]() Miracle Mile is Tangerine Dream's 36th album overall and their 12th soundtrack. Tangerine Dream still remains a duo at this stage with only Edgar Froese & Paul Haslinger mentioned in the credits for the album. Miracle Mile isn't a sporting drama as the title may suggest, but an apocalyptic thriller centred around the Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles. This is one of Tangerine Dream's more memorable soundtracks and definitely worth checking out. I believe there's around sixty Tangerine Dream soundtracks in total, so we still have Miles left to go and it'll be a Miracle if I "complete" this discography by Christmas. ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - August 28 2022 at 00:59 |

It was ideal for getting me to sleep when I was living next door to noisy neighbours. Its not a bad album but I can't get that excited about it tbh (3 stars in my book).

Miracle Mile is superb, and the 2CD remaster (which provides the actual score, and more) makes it even better!

I'm glad you liked the Miracle Mile soundtrack as much as I do. I'd run a Mile to pick that album up from my local record store, although it'd be a Miracle if I didn't have to stop and catch my breath along the way, especially at my age. ![]() As already mentioned, Miracle Mile is an apocalyptic drama, which reminds me that the Francis Ford Coppola movie "Apocalypse Now" was mockingly known in the film industry as "Apocalypse When?", because it took forever to make.

![]() I've owned Miracle Mile on cassette, CD and now the 2CD. I first rented it on VHS (it seemed to have a brief theatrical run) with nary an idea of the film's premise. I loved the score and figured...why not? I wasn't merely pleasantly surprised. And that ending...wow. A wonderful '80s relic.

I think the music would have benefitted from better sounds. The ones used veer the proceedings dangerously close to "contempo." I haven't listened to Lily in a long time, but when it was new, I listened to it a lot. However, I stopped with "Valley of the Kings." The rest of the tracks sound like throwaways, and "Long Island Sunset" could have been done by a hundred other groups. That's probably the first track by TD that made me wince. Still...a better album than Melrose.

Lily on the Beach sounds even better to me now than it did ten years ago, when I used to have the album on CD. One thing's for sure: I wish I'd never given the CD away to a charity shop.

I've never done an A:B with the original and 2002 re-recording. Thoughts? |

I've never heard the 2002 re-recording. I wasn't even aware there was a re-recording available until now. Lily on the Beach was the last Tangerine Dream album I'm familiar with, so it's all unexplored territory for me from now on.

Fasten your seatbelt and watch those sudden sharp turns. 1990s TD goes downhill fast.

Even if the studio albums take a downturn, I'm really looking forward to seeing Tangerine Dream's Live performances with Linda Spa, including:- Rocking Out the Bats; Live at the Tempodrome Berlin; The London Eye concert; and the Electric Mandarine tour, to name just four.

![]() Tangerine Dream are close to home for Destination Berlin, their 13th soundtrack and 38th album overall. Destination Berlin is not a movie soundtrack as such, but a musical score for a revolutionary (if you'll pardon the pun) new 360 degree cinema in West Berlin, featuring scenes of Berlin shot from a multi-cam video camera mounted on board a helicopter and then displayed all around the circular walls of the theatre where it can be viewed from any angle - a bit like a Google Earth street view several years ahead of its time. ![]() |

To mark the end of the eighties decade, now seems like a good time for an update of Tangerine Dream's 39 albums so far, having reached a transitional point in their long career with Paul Haslinger departing and Jerome Froese joining the band around the same time:-
