So you're still at it. Sometimes an image, a photo and even an emoticon speak louder than a hundred words. The only denigrating emoticons are these ones (which i stay away from) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

And now, we're talking about our problems, I wished that you stopped being aggressive towards me and trying putting me down.

again, you were the one to attack me here. I'm not being aggressive (how?) or trying to put you down. I don't know how you are reaching this conclusion. Let's stop, we've done enough damage to this thread about an (otherwise) great band.

This was my gateway album into the world of TD. I have fond memories of this and believe I bought this after hearing one of the tracks on a radio show called Stars End, broadcast in Philadelphia on WPXN back in the mid-1980s. Back then the show was broadcast very late at night on Fridays and Saturdays and I would listen to it with my headphones on and the lights out. If I could pull my stereo out into the backyard, this would have been great to listen to under a starry night. Two other artists I discovered on that show were Mark Shreeve (which you've reviewed in the past) and Richard Pinhas. Like you, I'd give Hyperborea 4 stars too.

^ I'm a big fan of Mark Shreeve too. I have three of his albums on CD:- Assassin; Crash Head; & Legion. I saw him Live at the EMMA festival in Derby in 1994 where there were a Legion of fans in attendance, but thankfully, no Assassins. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - August 22 2022 at 09:42 |

A couple of other British electronica artists that may appeal to you if you like the sound of Tangerine Dream.....

![]() Legend is Tangerine Dream's 28th album overall and their 8th soundtrack album - and what a soundtrack it is!! This is easily Tangerine Dream's best soundtrack so far for me. The beautiful melodies contained within this album just blew me away the first time I heard it. It felt almost as if I'd entered a magical fantasy world of goblins and unicorns where anything is possible. Legend has it that Jerry Goldsmith submitted the original orchestral score for this Ridley Scott movie, but it was rejected by Universal Pictures as they deemed it unlikely to appeal to the "youth market". Tangerine Dream were contracted to come up with a new score for the movie, resulting in one of their most outstanding film scores ever! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This song is "Loved by the Sun" and it's loved by me too. ![]() ![]() |

A couple of very nice "Berlin School" duos to savour who've probably never even been to Berlin, as they're all from the county shires of merry old England, but if you like the sound of Tangerine Dream, then..... (you know the rest)

Another student of the Berlin School of electronic music is Ian Boddy, although he's from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, so he probably did a home study course.

Another British artist worth mentioning is John Dyson (not the vacuum cleaner guy) from Sheffield. He's best-known for the Evolution of a distinctive whistling synth sound, and once you've heard it, you won't forget it.. John Dyson has obviously studied at the "Berlin School" too, as his music is very reminiscent of Tangerine Dream, but with a distinctive style all of his own. He's the best artist to come from Sheffield since The Human League, probably.

Finally, before getting back on-topic with Tangerine Dream, there's two other British electronica artists well-worth mentioning: David Wright & Robert Fox - featured here earlier as part of the Code Indigo duo. They're not exactly household names (even in their own households), but Robert Fox & David Wright are two of the finest artists in the Brutish electronic music scene, and if I'm wrong about that, then I'm a tangerine!

For me, the UK's best contributions to the world of EM are pre-Redshift Mark Shreeve, ARC (Mark Shreeve + Ian Boddy) and Wavestar (John Dyson + the late Dave Ward-Hunt).
Wavestar's Moonwind and Mark Shreeve's Legion each had a tremendous impact on me back in the Awesome Eighties. Those albums served to further the notion EM wasn't limited to TD (and alumni), Vangelis, Jarre, Carlos, Tomita and Synergy.

I used to think EM was limited to TD, Vangelis, Jarre, Tomita & Synergy too until the 1990's, and I'm glad you reminded me about Wavestar. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Moonwind was on a constant loop when I got it new in 1988. I couldn't stop listening to it. "Voyager" and "Cabal" blew me away. It certainly kicked Optical Race to the curb: better sounds + better compositions + an overall better album. And it was none other than Larry Fast (Synergy) who made it available stateside, by releasing it on his Audion label! ![]() Paul, have you heard Wavestar II? It's John Dyson, Paul Ward and Stephan Whitlan. |

Moonwind is the only Wavestar album I have on CD, and I have John Dyson's first three solo albums on CD too. I've heard of Moonwind II, but couldn't find any links for their albums on YouTube. ![]() I used to have Synergy's Audion album on vinyl and I'd like to get it on CD too. I Love that album! ![]() I'll have to make a list out of all of my electronica albums, of which Tangerine Dream's 12 albums are only a small part.

I agree about Hyperborea. I'd forgotten how much I liked this album until I encountered it again on this thread.
