Lorenzo: Vinicio Capossela: Bestiario d'amore This has a playful sensibility about
it. Perhaps a theatrical piece? I’m glad you chose it, it’s my favourite of
the four, as it has a fairy-tale/ballet feel. Lo Stato Sociale, "Combat
pop" (2021) Rock N Roll sound, sarcastic sort of sounding vocals. Not just the video guy’s size, but reminds me
of a Meatloaf song. In video, kids all
enjoy it when the band members show their real faces. Francesco Guccini.: Natale a Pavana,2020 Much more contemplative song, a look to the past (thinking from the video)? Sense of melancholy and nostalgia. Mostly spare instrumentation and a speaking-type vocal. Multi-voiced chorus at times. Here you have again been true to yourself, Lorenzo, choosing from your (as I think of it) Italianate tradition and tossing in a modern rock piece. They all have a sense of high drama to them, as I have come to expect from what you have shared with us over these years. 2) Francesco

This is a quite hard one as I don't normally explore new stuff systematically, rather randomly (and then new stuff for me is often up to 5 years old). Adding to that, a pretty big part of my 2022 favourites are so long that for sure they're inappropriate for this game. (If you're curious, check out the recent releases by Weserbergland, Pan Daijing, Svarte Greiner, Fossil Aerosol Mining Project.) The task to go through all the other things will help me big time exploring 2022 music, so great topic, but I have basically no time these days so no idea when I can manage this. The ones I found for my list are pretty good though, if weird and experimental. Lucy - Wanton Witch 2 (from "Lucy Plays Wanton Witch") Laura Veirs - Seaside Haiku (from "Found Light") So Sner - Animals Will Help (from "Reime") Red Snapper - Tarzan (from "Everybody is Somebody") PS I hope that nobody started listening to these and evaluating them straight away as I replaced Jameszoo by Laura Veirs half an hour after posting, to give you at least some melody. I have updated the playlist to include Lorenzo's and Christian's selections.
There should be 31 tracks. Note that for Lucy - Wanton Witch 2, I used another posting of yhe same video because the original one is mislabeled as a kid's video so it can't be added to any playlists. I have had this happen before, but not in quite some time. |

I did listen to all you originally chose, and already had an idea, but that's okay, more to hear. I liked all, but I did just plain enjoy Red Snapper - Tarzan the most. Number two comfortable goes with Lucy - Wanton Witch 2. The other two I appreciate about as much in different ways. 1. Red Snapper - Tarzan (5 points) 2. Lucy - Wanton Witch 2 (3 points) 3. So Sner - Animals Will Help (2 points) 4. Laura Veirs - Seaside Haiku (1 point) I know I still have Mila's music to listen to and Lorenzo (although I don't really want to consider non-2022 things for this TBH). Two years ago Ive got the same problem and Raff posted the YouTube links tò my Song, but in that case I could choose what I wanted. Now, about the songs of 2022: I know the Black Midi album and the Italians songs 9f the Sanremo Festival. But possibly or surely I know other songs, but I cant control 8f they have bene published this year. For exajplr, After a Ling research,nI disvovered that El Greco was published this year, (I was not sure) But in other case Internet doesnt help me. I am writing from an old bad tablet and the line could fall in any moment So I suggest some Song of the last 2 years. Got a first moment to spend some listening time; things will come in stages... Nickie: A very gentle selection overall. Sometimes that works with me, but sometimes it leaves me a bit underwhelmed. I'm between these two, now... White Room by Returned to the Earth is meandering a bit too gently through mellow pop territories to these ears, without an extra twist. I like the sonic quality though. With Ana Alcaide we have another subdued song more in the realm of folk and traditionals. Wonderful duo of voices mixing celtic and Middle Eastern, which makes this quite nice, but it is not moving me beyond that. Mary Fahl is enchanting me because of her wonderful voice, but she leaves me wanting for more. With Bethel Woods we are with an up-tempo song, somehow very poppy too, but it has an interesting jazzy piano underneath it all. Each of these four tracks has its distinct quality which makes them very interesting and makes it into a pleasant listen, but none of them provokes a "wow-effect" (or something similar) with me - other than maybe Mary Fahl's voice, but I would want to hear it with another song. Number 1 and 4 are clear to me, 2 and 3 could be the other way around: Midlake - Bethel Woods: 5 points Mary Fahl - Since You've Asked: 3 points Ana Alcaide - An Mah: 2 points Returned to the Earth - White Room: 1 point Mila: I listened to the Black Midi album Hellfire, which I found a bit too mannerist to entirely convince me. A good listen, though. A single track is maybe the best way to get into them, because 27 Questions is really great, mixing something King Crimson like with a theatrical/musical (music-hall) style approach. I very much like the spoken/half-sung vocals. Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul adopt the musical playfulness of a Laurie Anderson with a very modern sound and mixing of styles. Intriguing. With Lalalar: Hiç Mutlu Olmam Daha Iyi we continue in the realm of electro with a Turkish flavor, but maybe a bit more conventional sounding because of the beat, which I'm not fond of. I'm not a fan either of sequencer dominated electronic music, but Brandt Brauer Frick do generate something fascinating. But from these three electronic offerings I prefer the Belgium one. Which would be competing for number one spot in case Black Midi is maintained. I'll wait with my points till Mila has her definite four. |

Lalalar - Hiç Mutlu Olmam Daha Iyi (1 point) I really love the Brandt Brauer -- my clear favourite and one of my faves in this round. I enjoyed Thank You considerably. I almost put Lalalar in third place, but I think I would need some more acclimation. As for black midi, I knew the album, but it still has not fully clicked with me I feel. Lorenzo, I understand your issue, and I have bent or overlooked the rules before to accommodate people (with you too when I set as a rule not to nominate for the poll if you plan not to listen, and to warn me in advance, and you then said during the voting phase that there were too many songs to listen so chose not to vote, but I kept yours in -- no big deal, things happen, is just an example. But a big part of the fun for me in these polls is working within the limitations, and making exceptions can be a very slippery slope. I might not be able to participate in every one even if I want to, and A Plague... decided not to participate because it was too limiting. That said, I'm not saying you should not mention those or that people should not consider them, and I wouldn't tell the poll starter how he should treat that. Questions Heavy start. Semi-spoken
vocal. No lack of instrumentation, rapid
changes. Turns into a sort of absurdist
rant in a jazz style late/50’s early 60’s, then back to the vehemence. Tale of a man’s musings while he dies in a
public spectacle and everyone goes home laughing. Charlotte
Adigérie & Bolis Pupul: Thank You Sarcastic deadpan lyrics with a sort of
electronic/acid repeating backdrop to the vocals. Commentary on artistry/commercialization. Lalalar:
Hiç Mutlu Olmam Daha Iyi Electric Middle Eastern beats and sounds, definitely
up my alley as far as musically. Not as
thrilled with spoken/rap-type vocals in general, but the repetitive
instrumental parts I quite enjoy. Brandt
Brauer Frick: Step Electronic piece with
lots of whirrs and plonkies (I know, my terminology), repeating the basis and
adding on in layers. Hypnotic. Ends a bit abruptly. Very cutting edge from you, Mila, as I’ve come to expect with your selections. All very intriguing and very modern. 1)

Christian: Lucy - Wanton Witch 2
Industrial clanks and whooshes galore, with some effected vocals thrown
in. Steady beat, unnerving a bit, as I
think it is meant to be. Laura Veirs - Seaside Haiku Completely different. She is a trusting soul, in the video, gives
me the willies! Sort of an innocent-type
voice, sing-songy, intimate. Summery
piece, despite the raingear. So Sner - Animals Will Help More avant-industrial, also rather
menacing. Makes me think of time before
time, like when things are struggling to come to life in a primordial
soup. Some creakings and almost
inaudible blips and bell-like tones and such. Red
Snapper – Tarzan Live action this
time. Avant jazz here, sax to the
fore. Repetitive beginning, goes into
another sort of groove, slows for a few moments, then back to it. Title fits the track. Nice varying set from you, Christian, with the cutting edge industrial, toss in a bit of jazz and an quirky tune. As always, thank you for helping my brain get around these kinds of pieces. 1)
