No, me neither, but I don't think either album is likely to make it into the Top 5, not unless there's A Dramatic Turn of Events.

I agree about The Astonishing. I've always liked Octavarium though.

I agree with both of you... I thought Black Clouds followed on from a cul-de-sac started by SC, which was remedied by Dramatic Turn. Never liked Portnoy's vocals on these albums tbh.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Same here again... Octavarium is a great, if fairly standard DT album... more or less all wonderful tracks, with few surprises, whereas The Astonishing was quite simply erm, Astonishing... As I said once before, it should live next to Therion's Beloved Antichrist in a particular section of your music library marked WTF?

Astonishing is so biiiiiiiiiiiig. I think the first 5 or 6 tracks are nice to listen but after that it never ends lol
Definitely my least favorite album from the band

Have you counted my vote for A Change of Seasons? Looking at that score, I’m guessing so, but it’s hard to tell without going back and doing some maths…. (And I’m lazy!) |

^ No, but thanks for mentioning it. I'd missed the part you wrote underneath your Top 5 about whether or not to include A Change of Seasons as a full album, so I'll add your points on for the album now.

I follow your Train of Thought because it would be Systematic Chaos to include either of those two albums in my Dream Theater Top 10. I do like Awake though, which is in my Top 5.

I've listened to the album now and added it to the bottom of the list, a little bit belatedly, bearing in mind nearly everyone's voted by now.

I mostly prefer their heavier side over their mellower one. I just find their mellower songs kind of corny. Space Dye Vest is great, though, one of my very favourites from them. |

Kevin Moore created that song, lyrics and music. I recommend checking out other two projects Kevin has been in - Chroma key and OSI.
