Hey — sorry to resurrect an ancient topic, just wanted to say how much I appreciate this as a Ukrainian musician living in Kyiv (and leading Obiymy Doschu). When the invasion started, the outpouring of support, including spreading the word and buying records of Ukrainian artists, was palpable, and helped us through some dark moments.
Obiymy Doschu, a unique blend of progressive rock with neoclassical, neofolk, jazz and post-rock influences and lush live string arrangements from Ukraine

thanks for this thread (surprised to see my Jam For Victory idea mentioned as well)

please DON'T donate to The Red Cross though, these bureaucrats never help and make everything worse

if you're willing to donate yourself, the best option is this one

cheers, Igor (Stoned Jesus, Arlekin, Krobak, etc)

Sherpa The Tiger, a krautrock band from Lviv, was recently added to the Progarchives database after releasing their sophomore album Ithkuil (recorded just before the start of the war) in May. I'll be sure to purchase their excellent debut album during the next Bandcamp friday.

Jam For Victory was an idea by Kostyantyn Kalachikov (Shiva The Destructor) to just get in the room with some fellow Ukrainian musicians to try and remember what it is to be a musician in these terrifying times.

Olexandr Kuts ([url=https://vovk.Bandcamp.com/album/Lair[/url]) and Igor Sydorenko (Stoned Jesus, Arlekin, Krobak) were the first people Kostyantyn decided to jam with. They said "let's do this!" and a couple of days later the first jam session happened.

But before they played a note, Igor proposed to record their spontaneous performance just in case - and lo and behold, now you can listen to it as it was! All proceeds go to local Ukrainian charities, so feel free to support in any way possible. Enjoy and share!

Volume One: https://jamforvictory.bandcamp.com/album/vol-i

💙💛🇺🇦💙💛

You can any more? Another three musicians coming tougher for another jam session?
Volume Two is played by Eugene Zhytniuk (keyboards in IGNEA) on guitar, Igor Sydorenko (as above, normally on guitar) on drums, and Mykola Lebed (Ghost Cities) on saxophone & synths. jamming together for the first time.

Get 45 minutes of the fully recorded session on Bandcamp and help bring the victory of Ukraine closer.

All proceeds will go to Ukrainian charity organisations.

Jonathan Hultén’s debut for Kscope was one of my favourite albums from 2020.

He’s released this month a charity single for Ukraine, which is available for the paltry sum of 9 SEK - but obviously you can pay more. And whatever you decide you can afford to pay, all proceeds (after Bandcamp and PayPal have taken their cut) will go to aid Ukraine.

^ That’s great to hear. If I have introduced anyone to any Ukrainian band or artist, I’m happy.

The two collaborative albums of Ukrainian “Collision Music” from Astarta/Edwin (the original album and the remix album “Outages”) have just been moved to a new Bandcamp page set up specifically to raise funds for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Name Your Price

💙💛🇺🇦💙💛

As well as raising funds, Astarta/Edwin think it important that Ukrainian music, perhaps lesser known outside the country, is able to reach as many people as possible, to present an example of something positive from Ukraine, and to let the wider world know that Ukrainians posses a distinct and rich culture of their own, so therefore everything will be available on a “Name Your Price” basis, and will remain so, but please make a donation to aid the humanitarian efforts, if you are able.

The war in Ukraine is destroying the lives of many people, and the musicians who are part of these recordings have had their lives upended along with many of their compatriots.

Remember, this Friday (tomorrow, 4 March) is “Bandcamp Friday”, where Bandcamp waive their usual cut from sales, so the maximum amount of donation can be passed on.

💙💛🇺🇦💙💛

The Edwin Durant Kovtun album has now also been moved to the AE Appeal Bandcamp page, where it is Name Your Price, in order for people to donate as much as they feel they can afford, to help the people and country of Ukraine.

Also, both Mariana Semkina and Nova Cascade have been showing their donations as they've made them, and both are in the hundreds of pounds.

The Vicious Head Society has been doing likewise, but clearly not so many people are buying the albums from TVHS.  I would guess because prog metal is nowhere near as popular as the more mainstream and accessible sounds of Semkina and Nova Cascade. Still, as Mr Tesco would no doubt say, Every Little Helps.

Thank you for sharing all of this nick. I took the opportunity of band camp friday to buy one of The Vicious Head Society's albums and also an album from Karfagen, so hopefully my money will have done some good with the Red Cross and for Anthony Kalugin and his family. Let there be peace on earth.
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

This is more prog related, but a bunch of interesting artists (many with connections to Guapo) have put together this collection of unreleased material as a fundraiser for Ukraine. It's probably best to wait for Bandcamp Friday.

As small a gesture as it is, I will be donating 50% off all Bandcamp profits this week to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to help fund their life saving work in the Ukraine.

I hope for those receiving their CDs it brings a small ray of light in these dark times and time to sit, listen and contemplate what we can all do in our small corner of the world to help those in need.

Hi,

I lived through the Vietnam era and everything since ... but what I am seeing in the Ukraine, is distasteful and sad, and pathetic, and the hard part is? How do you recover it all in 10 to 20 years, and still not show the scars and the vicious ugliness. You don't!

I keep thinking about 21st Century Schizoid Man ... going about his maniacal this and that ... we all thought it was about Idi Amin, but 50 years later, it's about someone else!

And on this day, I will play "Epitath" loud and clear ... and pray for the best!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

The Vicious Head Society

One of my favourite albums of 2017 (I think I may have given it the #1 spot in my AOTY list for that year), and one of my favourite albums of last year (I never made an AOTY list for 2021, but this would have been a contender for the top spot, for sure) are now reduced in price, with all proceeds going to help Ukraine. If you don’t have either (or both) of these magnificent albums, then do yourself a favour and follow the link.

For the foreseeable future I've reduced the price of my albums on Bandcamp to €5. All proceeds from today onwards will go towards the Irish Red Cross and their appeal to help the Ukrainian crisis.

In just two days, from Bandcamp sales for albums by The Vicious Head Society, almost €50 has been raised to aid Ukraine. Once Bandcamp and PayPal have taken their cut, all proceeds are going to aid Ukraine. This Friday (4 March) as part of the Bandcamp Friday programme, Bandcamp will be waiving their fee, so only PayPal takes a cut.
