^ Added the DT to the youtube playlist.
^^ That King Kong is great.
Me too in a great way. It put a huge smile on my face. I was just listening through the playlist I made for the suggestions, and I must have heard about this, but to hear The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio and TV series theme made me really grin. Unexpected. Edited by Logan - July 31 2022 at 17:18 |

As much as I revel in the Zappa love, I think he has a pretty decent amount of instrumental material to not really fall within the parameters of this premise. Almost half of what he's written is instrumental (which is to say nothing of his general proclivity towards instrumental music).

^ Thanks, that's very true. I think the "rarely" part might have been missed. I knew that Zappa made lots of instrumental music, and that is my favourite Zappa music, but I still failed to resist in response adding my own, Imaginary Diseases. I do like to be quite open to some bending of the rules.
Originally I had planned to make this topic more rigid, so that not only should instrumentals be very rare in the discography, but also one would not expect people to know them unless one was very familiar with the band. But I'm fine to things that are well known here like Gentle Giant's The Boys in the Band, which hasn't been mentioned but I thought someone might. |

Infinite Space is not instrumental. Come to think of it neither is Sailor's Tale. For ELP I'll say the barbarian and for KC talking drum or maybe Fracture.

I do love some instrumental music. From not usually instrumental bands, my first thought was The Great Gig in the Sky from Pink Floyd... and of course they have a few others that I really love too.

Camel is also known for doing instrumentals. That's like half their repertoire.

The hard part here is "bands known for songs" - bands such as Camel, King Crimson, also North Sea Radio Orchestra, Novalis do instrumentals fairly regularly, so maybe they're not requested here. So I let myself be inspired from having dug out this great album for the "favourite seventies prog interactive poll", which also has a cool instrumental on it, which isn't what the band usually does.
