I just (re)discovered the prowess and talent of 2 of Britain's unforgettable prog rockers ....together in the 1973 album Faster than the speed of Light. Both coming from far away in prog rock , the former (VC) from Atomic Rooster (one of my fav bands), the latter from Crazy World of Arthur Brown. ![]() Edited by triptych - December 01 2020 at 10:09 |

Had to look that one up....what an odd but interesting lp (Brown does some strange lyrics and vocals)....Crane of course from Rooster and I like the very first one the best even though fans like the next 2 better. Brown's Kingdom Come lp's are also pretty good btw.
Regarding AR, DuCann on the first was also in an early thing called Andromeda.. I recommened it. (BTW,,in the process of reading about that I discovered 'Banstead' on the first Rooster lp was about Crane's time in a mental ward there...and he has a song about that on the lp you named above.) btw..the whole lp is on you tube...... ![]() Edited by dr wu23 - December 01 2020 at 12:29 |

Arthur Brown and Vincent Crane actually teamed up with, of all people, Klaus Schulze for Schulze's side project Richard Wahnfried that released several albums. ![]() Edited by BaldFriede - July 02 2022 at 03:54 |

Hi, Which speaks for his ability to create something, even if some of it (or possibly all of it) is likely to be totally ad lib. Like the stuff with Lisa later, it would likely be all live and improvised ... and all it says is that the man is a good listener, and knows what to do and say on a stage when the time comes. We wish 90% of all singers and lyricists out there were at least half as good!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Arthur Brown is very hit and miss with me, but on the Faster Than the Speed of Light album, he was on Fire - or at least his hat was.

I have the faster than the speed of light album but haven't listened to it yet. Maybe it's time to look for it.

Vincent Crane had a somewhat short stay at Banstead due to some sort of breakdown or perhaps exhaustion. This supposedly occurred between the break up of Crazy World Of Arthur Brown and the formation of Atomic Rooster. The story of Arthur Brown running off to join a cult is often coinciding with this. Shortly after Vincent Crane spent time at Banstead. This is all interesting to me because Vincent Crane was an amazing keyboard player.
I loved his piano playing and I think one of his most amazing performances is on the instrumental "Breathless". I've read the Chris Farlowe story where he describes visiting Crane at his house and referencing Vincent Crane's character surrounding the occult. There was something dark about Atomic Rooster and its difficult for me to be specific in detail. It's conceivable that if Crane was influenced by the occult that he projected it through their music. They were a bit subtle with their darkness in songs. They left a strange impression. Vincent Crane was a phenomenal musician and it's really sad what happened to him. He was very unique |
