I have a friend in the US who is a nurse, and she has no end of sad tales like this. There were a number of states with so-called “trigger laws”, that were written in advance of the decision, so that if Roe vs Wade were overturned, the law changed at that moment. So many people were caught unaware, either because they were not expecting Roe vs Wade to be overturned, or because they were not expecting changes to be made immediately upon the decision being made. I have no doubt this is true. By all means, feel free to doubt it. But it’s hardly propaganda. And, yes, it is preaching to the converted - because sometimes the converted need to be preached to. Brexit occurred because the converted ignored the preaching, assuming it would be a foregone conclusion that the UK would remain in the EU. It’s all very well thinking you know what is right, but it makes more sense to make a noise about it. Talking the talk changes nothing. Walking the walk does. And all that cheesy cliche stuff.

On reflection, the majority of folks here knew what it was like before R v. W but millennials certainly do not. In that regard, preaching has merit.

^The legal circus and craziness is yet to go into its inevitable full blown overload, but in a way that is simply what will make the media. The disruption to lives has already begun. But what’s truly sad, to me, is that some people are now so cynical that they view any post made on social media with a solid dose of skepticism. As I said, my friend (actually my first girlfriend, and the girl I thought I was going to marry) is a nurse. Originally from CA, she has also worked in WA, CO and, now, NV. She has a number of friends who work around the country, and she has a good idea of what is going on around the country. Her greatness sadness is obviously the fact this has happened at all, but coming up close is the fact that almost any time a nurse or a pregnant woman writes a post about what it happening, the first reaction of many is disbelief, and the idea that it might be propaganda. It’s going back to the bad old days where if a woman cried rape, people thought she was asking for it. The legal circus has not even yet begun, but the judging has.

I already said this in the "Supreme Court picking up Moore v. Harper" thread that Jean started: These clowns will stop at nothing. They will even deny women the right to vote despite of the 19th amendment (which was passed in 1919 and ratified in 1920). They will point out that "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex" does not say "gender" but "sex" and will claim that it means "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of having had sex".
